Always love The Thing discussions, it's such a rich movie that is open to so much interpretation thanks to the mystery element! Regarding Blair's infection, I always read it that he was infected by the time he smashes up the radio room because of the shirt change from yellow to white (we know it rips through your clothes when it takes you over). My theory has always been that he was deliberately trying to isolate himself from the rest of the group so he could work on his mini saucer without any scrutiny, whilst the things in the base could freely set to work infecting the rest of the crew and as for why Mac wasn't infected by the bottle in this case, if it was all an act, Blair had no need to touch a drop in the first place.
Zack is spot-on that the music echoes a Western. Quentin Tarantino clearly thought the same as he got the rights to some of the unused music from The Thing and used it to score The Hateful Eight :)
Halloween 1978 is my favorite movie of all time but The Thing 1982 is a masterpiece. Love it so much. Carpenter is a master. Really can’t go wrong with either movie.
22:17 I've heard JC talking a lot about this, that he got extremly tired of bussiness and corporate side of movie making,. Also he is such a self ctritcal person, he mentioned he was exosted with struggle he had with his own creations. Recently he said being musician is way easier/natural to him. I respect that a lot. As you mentioned he has nothing else to prove. Also in my opinion his late 90s/early 00s stuff didn't feel the same anymore. I am glad he didn't want to force himself anymore
I just watched this for the first time last week! Perfect timing; I was really missing out on one of the best. It had my jaw on the floor a couple times and got 40 years old, it hold up so well
I would love to see John Carpenter work with A24 on a film 🎥 I really feel like they would be one of the only studios to give him full creative control and let him take his time to build tension in a very 70s way . I wish that he could have teamed up with A24 to produce the new halloween trilogy , I think they would have really understood the assignment.
In 2009 my summer college job coworker told she was auditioning for The Ward in Winnipeg! lol…oh ya Dean Cundey was a funny bit by Film Junk podcast’s Jay Cheel.
My favorite horror film, if not my favorite film of all time. Also you missed the opportunity to add the thing soundtrack to your synopsis. Would have sounded like a trailer.
Zach Cherry and Edward truth there is a sound effect that I always thought was Macready punching Blair but now I'm thinking he was really punching Fuchs instead
Crap! U got me Cherry (Mr. Picker?) I have not seen THE THiNG or its remake(s)/prequel OR read the original story. What have I been doing with my life? SCREAM
The 2011 film may seem like a remake but it’s more of a prequel since everything shown is exactly where Copper and Macready find it including Colin killing himself or the ending of Mattias landing at the Norwegian camp and Lars coming out to check his teeth to make sure he is human only for the dog thing to run off and setting up the beginning of the 1982 movie
Zach Cherry Clark was never infected because the Thing knew he would be too obvious since he was the dog handler that spent all his time with the dog thing
Zach Cherry and Edward truth this is what Lars says in the beginning "Get the hell away! It's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! GET AWAY, YOU IDIOTS!"
The Thing is a masterpiece, I haven’t watched the prequel for so long that I’ve pretty much forgotten anything about it. But I don’t take anything that the prequel does/says to influence the original regarding inability to recreate organic matter. I wish they’d stop trying to remake successful movies. If something sucked, then perhaps have another run at it. But when something is universally loved, why try to somehow better it?

Yes. Good call.

I’m with you Zack - I respect ‘Halloween’ but I LOVE ‘The Thing’
(Oh, and another thing I love are Eddie’s plot summaries 😄👏👌)

28:33 Oh yes, westerns had a huge influence on John Carpenter, and his movies show that!
I am sure you know that anyway

I love these long format discussions around one film, between the two of you.

Love this keep it coming 😃
Zach Cherry and Edward truth-the line is Windows: Child's what if we are wrong about him , Child's: well then we're wrong
This and Savini's work on Day of the Dead is the best practical effects work on film, imo.
You’re right gents. That is *the* quote.

Zach serious! Have you seen the tv cut of the thing that has a narrator at the beginning giving back stories on each character??
I love The Thing, it`s so fantastic.
Can't wait for your 30 days of night episode

I hope you went to watch The Thing before coming back here!

There is a comic series that continues the story. Neither of them are infected at the end

There ya go folks!
Im a Virgo. Virgos and Scorpios freaking rule!

::holds up copy signed by Windows and Bennings actors, soon to be signed by Keith David as well:::
Why would you want to kill the student who got the aliens quote right
The Thing gives up the blood and gore Halloween (1978) is missing
The Ward is absolutely terrible. It's like Girl, Interrupted but with a killer ghost or something, which sounds fun, but it's not.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
One of you better pick Elsa for next week's Cherry Picker. One of the worst sisters in cinema.
