I used to be a store manager at a Warner Bros Studio Store in the late 90's and our yearly conferences were held in LA and I was lucky enough to be there on the Mr. Freeze set. The floor was covered not with ice but with flooring covered to look like shining ice.
Wow. That's Awesome. They make it look so real. From watching these vids on studio backlots and soundstage I can hardly watch a program without imagining what's behind them on how they were made. Lol

I’ve lived that life you’re describing. It’s not something you can rely on to earn much income with. I was never part of anything “Hollywood” though, so maybe that would make up the difference.
I was a Studio Electrician on The Heretic The Exorcist Part 2 and we shot in Stage 16. They built a African Village type set and it was amazing. Used more lights in one stage than had ever been used before. Had to bring electricity from the next door stage to support all the arc and 10k lights.
Hey, guy it would be great if you continue doing somo of this awesome videos about the Sound Stages. Or even better if you can meet an actor in the streets of WB and make a short interviw that would be INCREDIBLE!! Thanks
At 2:00 you can see "Waltons Mountain" in the background. I worked on the goonies movie and was on that pirate ship with one eyed Willy. Willy was a real human skeleton procured by one of the magical Warner Brothers property people. In fact all of the skeletons on that ship were real human skeletons.I was told the skeletons were picked clean by flesh eating beetles and were meant to be used in scientific studies, which is where they probably all ended up. I still have some of the fake doubloons that the property master gave me. I found a small package of powder on the stage at the wrap party, I had no idea what it was so I took to the security chief Jack Egger, he asked me if I knew what that powder was, I said no and he told me it was heroin. I have bittersweet memories of working at Warner Bros. Large companies get filled with greed, that is why they are no longer the largest movie companies in Hollywood. After the major studios busted the unions, all of the smaller movie companies took over, rightfully so. They deserved what they got! "And the first one now will later be last, for the times they are a changing" (bob dylan, on caps = no respect).
The video neglects to mention that there was no safe way to remove those railroad ties after the new lower walls had been built, so huge blocks of ice were wedged under the bottom of the old walls and allowed to melt which lowered the stage slowly onto the new base. He also fails to point out that the stage's new height put far more strain on the new base than the lot's other stages. They didn't want to build thicker walls to support the old stage, so a series of buttresses -- steel beams encased in masonry -- were erected to restrain the outward pressure, giving the stage its unique appearance (Warner's frequently used its distinctive look in films to double everything from prison walls to railway tunnels). The only other stage in the world (as far as I know) to also be supported by a series of buttresses (of a completely different design) is the even bigger third 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios outside London.
Is Stage 16 where they filmed the grotto/One-Eyed Willie’s ship (the Inferno) scene from The Goonies?? I read that once they finally wrapped up filming that entire scene, they had to dismantle EVERYTHING on set … including that AMAZING pirate ship display, which caused Richard Donner & the rest of the set design crew to get all emotional… 😢 (supposedly Donner himself wanted to keep that massive ship display as a souvenir, and planned to put it in his backyard, lol)
Not quite the tallest stage if you consider height above floor. The high side of Stage 27 at Sony Pictures is 80' to the perms (low side is 50'). Stage 6 was also 80' to the perms when it was being used as a stage. Sony's Stage 15 has right around 42,000 sq. ft. of space
How far is this sound stage from the Christmas vacation house and stage 31 32 and 33 and are all the sound stages same width and length The Christmas vacation pool do they use it for employees to swim in it looks like it's maintained
I always wanted to work at Warner bros I have wanting to animate eventually I do animation when I am board at school I am in 9th grade I take media classes I am the lead person I work with older kids while the other freshman are still learning and I hang around in the editors room cussing at each other ideas but I love what I do for that class I have field experience while the other freshman doesn’t I get pulled from class to film
wonderful, love the history form the Golden Era!! but, there is a picture you are using of Busby Berkely with Eleanor Powell; it's from the MGM film' Lady Be Good 1941. It was shot at MGM, now Sony studios in Culver City..
Blondie Street was on the old Columbia pictures ranch, which later became part of warner Bros, Sadly its all been torn down now to make way for 15 new soundstages Hollywood never preserves its own history
So, does this set not have an elephant door. Well like you said, you can take out the floor, and it'll go down 25 feet, does this mean that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get on the actual set, or is there two floors. Or is the set actually almost 100 feet in the inside, like you walk in the elephant door and its 100 feet tall. The set just seems so strange to me on how it was just...raised 25 feet.
Stage 16 In Warner Bros. Studios Is Also The Home Of The Longest Running Noontime Show Since 2018 to 2024 Eat Bulaga And Tahanang Pinakamasaya (Fanmade Only)
I love the magic of Hollywood. Too bad I didn't major in special effects or film production. Film school is a little out of Post 9/11 GI Bill price range. Lame.
This is so so so late, but you definitely don't have to go to film school. I'm an actor, and getting into that is a whole different beast, but I've heard being a Production Assistant is a very common, easy 'in' into the industry. It's a starter job and definitely not one most people that start as PAs intend to keep. It's a gateway job, really. I did a couple PA jobs when I lived in a place with a virtually non-existent film industry - a PA gig for American Idol in the town I was living in at the time when they did national touring auditions, and another gig for a TLC reality show. I did it for fun, fairly easy money and to still be working an industry job since there was so little film acting work, even though the PA gigs were just a few days long at most. Made a number of small mistakes and looked painfully green (amateur) on those jobs, but every PA started green somewhere. All in all, if this is a career field you really want, stupidly expensive film school isn't your only route.
Extremely impressive. Amazing what proper production can do to the world. It has transformed kids to become Navy fighter pilots because of Top Gun, transformed people into killers like the joker movie shooter James Holmes, turned people into Christians from the Jesus film by the guy who made Bravehart, made people into better lovers because of Titanic, created all kinds of permanent fetishes from cartoons like Hentai, etc. All done sometimes on the other-side of the world. The benefits of proper logistics and marketing. Making gun control look like it's the worst thing in the world when the other statistics that are indeed higher aren't even seen as an issue.
Man the way movies are made is just crazy. So many details and such big production!
This place is a legend. I love Hollywood and the resonant energy here has to be nuts.
Gorilla Jones Soo you also love the Illuminati? 🧐

I felt that kind of energy at MGM Studios one early morning in tbe 70s. It DOES exist!
Hollywood is a cesspool of immorality
Thanks for posting that. I had worked 6 months on that stage in Batman Returns. It was huge.
It always amazes me they tear the sets down after the film is complete. Those beautiful sets but we don't see the back where the glue shows.
Russell Sheffield were you a production member or a cast member?
I'd rather tour/watch this instead of watching most of the movies out today.
WB was my stomping ground. Love that lot

Film making to me is magic. If I could relive my life I would definitely go into film production, even low budget!
I’ve lived that life you’re describing. It’s not something you can rely on to earn much income with. I was never part of anything “Hollywood” though, so maybe that would make up the difference.
It's never too late.
Thank you Dean Ricca! I learned so much about Stage 16 from your 4.5 minutes tour that it left me wanting more from you!
The Goonies!!!! 👏🏽👏🏽😊

WOW! You must have stories from working on studio sets from that era. Huge fan of Exorcist 1 and 2. Have you worked on the first one per chance?
interesting. It's always interesting to see how it is in reality compared to the movies.
The ending of Ghostbusters on the rooftop was also shot in this studio!
We need more of these ... do one for every sound stage pleaseeeeeeee
Wow how cool is this area for filming, so awesome 👍
Outstanding that was incredible
We are in the process of cleaning the perms and cat walks right now it’s really cool knowing all the history thank you.
Maybe one of these days I will be able to see this place. Looks like an adventure.
What about acoustics inside? Is there any sound proofing or treatment for walls or floor ?
Such history!
This is so awesome! I'd love to visit someday!
It takes a lot of "backstage talent" to host a big tour like this and Dean Ricca is the right man for this job.
Dean! I stumbled across this video today. How wonderful to see you!!
Much love and happiness to you!
So Amazing
I love Marion Davies. She had a fascinating life. Very generous too!
THIS IS SO FREAKING FASCINATING WOAH MY GOD
Legend has it that the stage is still be jacked higher to this day.
what's up 😀😀😀
Jurassic Park Museum set (inside) was built there which we saw in the movie in the beginning and at the end
amazing love it
Pretty cool!
A huge model of Hollywood Blvd was built here for the movie 1941 for the plane flying down the middle of the street.
Fascinating
So freaking cool.

At the old Sunset Boulevard lot, they did the same with water effects for NOAH's ARK in 1928.

I ate lunch with Dean!!! He loves that story, doesn't he?
Can you show us Stage 12 of Scooby-Doo?
3:38 - It's Shipoopi, not Shiboobie.
Mary Ellen Walton sent me here.
Yeah but do you get to walk around the back lot and get up close and personal with the buildings?
is dean still part of the tour staff?
june 24, 2024
Boggles the mind how they create these epic films inside this set. Is it still a working stage?
How could he not mention the T-Rex paddock sequence from Jurassic Park?
Stage 16 In Warner Bros. Studios Is Also The Home Of The Longest Running Noontime Show Since 2018 to 2024 Eat Bulaga And Tahanang Pinakamasaya (Fanmade Only)
didnt get to see that on the vip tour.. ☹
Developers are raising the the Palace Theater in New York in the same manner.
Stage 16 is the most popular stage
The T Rex attack from Jurassic Park was also shot here
Very common to raise building that way you can literally move a 2 story brick home miles away to another property

Now they would have to clear raising the building through greedy investors (loan sharks). It would never get done.
