I remember when Dodge came out with their Viper ACR 1.33 Edition, which was named after setting a Laguna Seca production car track record in 2009. This was a special, 3400lb, 600HP American Club Racer version of the Dodge Viper. So it makes this run in a Tesla M3P very impressive! Kudos, UP team!

This just proves these cars get their laptimes mostly from the acceleration, and not handling I think? Also the laptime difference between street legal and slicks are kind of small

Shame tesla didn't take the now fairly well developed m3/Y chassis&powertrain Put it in a lighter 2dr 4 passenger coupe. With f&r castings structural 4680 gen2 cybercell pack. Then shame all the camaros/mustangs/chargers/challengers/400zs etc for 45-55k. 😀
They need to get into more profitable markets first, like vans would be good, the Model 3 does everything so well that its unnecessary except for us hardcore track guys haha
I would love to see how this car does against a stock Hyundai Ioniq 5N. They are roughly the same price probably. I know the 5N could do many more hot laps but for a single all out lap I would be surprised if the 800+ lbs heavier 5N could keep up with this car.

Congrats on finding a setup and achieving great performance, the silence just saps all of the visceral emotion of driving a fast car around a world class track.
I get plenty of emotion hearing the sounds of the cars that the TESLA passes. Like running a race and getting more energy hearing other people breathing hard.

Bolt in cage SMH, those are often required to run tracks like the green hell. And for setups like this it's likely for running as a harness bar&to attach a hans device to for driver safety. 👍🏻
@@4literv6 That's a half-cage...sort of a heavy duty "harness bar" really...and hardly a "stripped out" interior. The rear seats are missing. Not exactly weight saving in a 4000 or whatever pound car.
They should make a 2dr track car with 75% removable battery you just drop down on a jack and switch over to a high performance lightweight track pack! Drive to the track on the other 75% and back home no problem, but your droping like 800lbs off of it! Those 80kw packs weight in around 1000lbs. 20KW would be enough to get you a couple of laps. Just increase the cooling a bit to make up for higher discharge speeds and temps.
The problem would be the discharge rate of the half-pack. It would be like taking a megawatt out of a full pack. They can do it, but very risky. Of course in record attempts it doesn't matter if the pack dies doing it.
There's a business opportunity if NIO ever comes to the states with their removable/swappable battery packs. An entrepreneur could rent race ready / off road use only packs.
@@patrickryan2614batteries don't work like a petrol tank. Power scales with pack size, all else being equal. 25% pack size = 25% power. This is why hybrids have 100hp electric motors. M3P is already battery limited.
I don't know anything about the Mclaren, but in all fairness, the GT3 is an out and out racing car. You'd expect it to be faster, regardless of the power deficit.
Yeah this honestly is not a very ideal car to drive on a track unless you can figure out some way to fix that oversteer. This dude put down a really solid time but it's clear in the video there is a lot to be gained with a better setup. He just needed way more turn in but I don't know how trailbreaking works in a Tesla

it can't handle that, this car is not made for the track but sporty legal street driving. cooling is the problem in ev's, while normal car's need like little to no cooling, a racing ev has so much power it is all about cooling. taycan turbo gt is made for the track, it can handle it, check it out.
