    This is by far the most easiest mod in order to be able to plug any 3.5 jack cable into the M40x. No soldering involved and only some very easy manipulations. Kudos!
    Securing the adapter can be done with hot glue, which can be removed without damaging anything if needed.

    • @lordofh3
      @lordofh3  7 років тому

      Al Biss thank you for your compliment. I have been hesitant of hot glue due to my worry that it would deform the plastic. If you did hot glue it could you provide it in a link? Also, how would you remove the hot glue without damaging the headphones? Thank you in advance for your input and please have an enjoyable/pleasant day my friend :)

    • @albiss1164
      @albiss1164 7 років тому +2

      Hi Nikola,
      I haven't mod my M40x yet but concerning the hot glue you could do it without any fear of damaging the plastic, as long as you don't put the metal ending of the 'gun' in contact with it for a long period of time. Personally, I would put a litlle amount (inside the cup) where the metal of the adapter touches the plastic of the headphones.
      Removing hot glue is as easy as applying some force with a little screwdriver, it will break loose leaving the plastic it was glued to intact. No need to use a lot!

    Nikola--I just wanted to thank you for your clear, easy-to-follow video on adapting the MX-40 for any 3.5mm cable. I easily modded my pair per your instructions and now have a great set of very comfortable cans (I also modded my AT's with the Brainwavz pads and added a Sennheiser HD600-style headband pad) that I have in Bluetooth mode using an Mpow BT 5.0 attached with a velcro patch and 3.5mmm short cable. I guess I lucked out because the little hole for the cable insertion on my set was large enough so that the Josi Minea 2.5mm Male to 3.5mm Female Audio Adapter you recommended fits through the opening with room to spare. There was no need to use any force to get it in there and plugged in. In fact, when I want to go back to wired mode, I can simply use the original MX-40 cable and insert the 2.5mm male end right into the plug with no problem. Even without the locking mechanism it's a firm enough fit so there's no problem. Thanks again!

    • @tee4452
      @tee4452 3 роки тому

      @@ilko962
      I can see where I wasn't totally clear about what I meant.
      Since the locking mechanism is removed from the MX-40 with this mod, the Josi Minea adapter can be fairly easily removed and re-inserted into the jack hole.
      Note: in my case it's easy--YMMV if the jack hole on your cans is narrower or there are other factors that make it more difficult to remove and insert the adapter. Also note, this removal is easier if you still have the short 3.5mm cable from the Mpow inserted into the Josi Minea, as this helps in being able to grasp it to pull it out.
      Now, with the Josi Minea adapter removed, you can plug the 2.5mm end of the stock MX40 cable into the jack hole and it will stay in there even without the locking mechanism. You're now running in wired mode again. The 2.5mm end won't be locked, but it stays firmly in there in my case. Hope that makes sense.

    A proprietary 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that has a locking mechanism similar to ath m series on 2.5mm side should be developed. May be able to use the same adapter in this video but mod the casing so it fits the locking mechanism to fit this headphone and the likes without doing the mod to remove locking mechanism. I've been trying to solve a problem for a few years now. Mine has the 2.5 mm female connector on it. I have a Bluetooth adapter that has a 3.5 mm female on it that I'd like to clip to the headband of the headphone. Then I only need a cable that's about 6 inches long. I'm having a very hard time finding a cable that has these specifications. I'd also like to have a right angles on each end if possible but not necessary. I know it'd be easier to find a 3.5 to 3.5 cable, but Id rather just use a 2.5 to 3.5 cable instead of opening my headphones to modify it.

      Hi Tobi let me for start off with saying thank you for watching my video!
      In regards to your question yes you can instead use a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable as long as the diameter of the 2.5mm end that you plan on sliding into the hole does not exceed 6.1mm / 0.24 inches in diameter; The diameter was verified with the use of a calibrated digital caliper, last calibrated on 02/03/18, with an accuracy of +/- 0.2mm/0.01inches.

    Work on the m30x ?

    • @lordofh3
      @lordofh3  5 років тому +1

      Good Evening RegardDogs RegardDogs sadly this will not work on the m30x since the m30x does not have a detachable cable. That in mind If you wanted to do something similar to this it would require use to desolder the two lines coming from the cable that attach onto the pcb on the inside; make sure you know where power and ground go to. next, you would need to get a female 3.5mm audio jack, then solder it in properly to the pcb. After the jack is soldered you will need to either mount the jack inside of the hole where the cable is being fed into or configure the cup so that you can attach your 3.5mm cable to the jack in some other fashion. I personally WOULD NOT recommend you doing this since it's not really that cost effective in my opinion and I am going to go out on a limb and assume you do not have much experience with building electronics/soldering.
      Hopefully this helps you my friend and please have an enjoyable weekend! :)

      It does but that's only so the original cable doesn't pull out where as the adapter bypasses that (I think) and clips in snug, I actually found it bizarre how perfectly well it sits and that no one mentioned it.

    • @User-qg9mf
      @User-qg9mf 6 років тому

      Yeah, the thing is that that locking mechanism makes the hole a bit smaller, are you sure you haven't broken it by shoving the adapter in?

      Yeah I just checked again it's broken damn so a warning to those who are thinking of trying be careful but the first time I used the headphone cable after I plugged the adapter it wasn't broken so it takes a few tries before it's evident, personally it doesn't bother me as mine are pretty old and roughed up but yeah I think the adapter just squashed those holding pins when I forced it in. It still holds the original cable in but not as strong and I think it's just a matter of time before the adapter starts sliding back out then I'll just use a glue gun or something. It's sad that no one does a proper adapter, actually I saw one on DHgate but you have to buy a hundred minimum order but I couldn't find anyone on ebay selling them individually.

      I am sorry to hear about your piece being broken Hor Net. The reason why I didn't just slide the adapter in is because I tried, but i felt a slight resistance so I just disassembled the ear cup to make my life easy and not break anything.
      Hopefully you two have a wonderful day and I will see you around!

  • @User-qg9mf
    @User-qg9mf 6 років тому +1

    It's much better to unscrew the PCB, unscrew the locking mechanism, then screw the PCB back. That way you will be able to use the male-to-female adapter whenever you want, instead of making this mod permanent. Now I have the choice of using a BoomPro mic (with the adapter on) or the original cable from Audio Technica (with no adapter). The adapter I bought is small enough not to get jammed inside the hole like the one in the video does.
    Also: don't push the adapter in without having removed the locking mechanism first because you will break it.

    is there any loss in audio quality when doing this?

    • @lordofh3
      @lordofh3  7 років тому +3

      kooler166 first off let me start off by saying thank you for asking and watching the video.
      you do not lose quality when you put the 2.5mm to 3.5mm convertor in, but you will change the sound if you put new pads on depending on the style and the material. if you have any more questions please do not hesitate to ask :)
      also have a wonderful day!

    how come my headphones rattle when I shake them. I did this mod and now they rattle when I shake them

    • @lordofh3
      @lordofh3  7 років тому +1

      I can not entirely say what the cause of your rattling is, but if I had to take a wild shot in the dark I would first check the screws that hold the PCB (that little green board) inside of your headphones. if they're not the culprits I would assume that it is the 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter not being snug with the plastic hole. To fix that problem you would have to use some kind of bonding agent to cement the two pieces together, but I do not recommend this due to the inability to reverse this later on.
      Hopefully this has be of some use for you Armando Dominguez. If you have any more questions, concerns, or comments please do not hesitate in contacting me. Also, Have a wonderful day :)

    why don't you just do it like prophoto do ? which doesn't force the 3.5mm adapter to the chip ? did the m40x and the m50x has different diameter on the hole ?

      Ismail Lubis first off thank you for watching the video. Every view counts!
      The reason why you cant direct connect a 3.5mm to the pcb is because it actually has a 2.5mm female on the pcb. Unless you are stated why am i not just direct connecting a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable instead? The reason behind that is preference and my concern that if you hit the female connection the wrong way with the male end that you might cause some damage to the pcb and in turn potentially make the headset unusable. Hopefully that helped clarify my methodology and thank you for the interesting question :)
      Have a wonderful day!

      @lordofh3  6 років тому +1

      Good morning Azka; actually i was not nervous, but the shakiness in my hands is a side effect of an injury i obtained years ago. sadly that ruins my ability to become a hand model if my current gig doesn't work out haha! Hopefully you have a good day as well as learned something from my video :)

    There is no sense in removing a quality locking mechanism and replace it with a cheap adapter and a cheap cable. I appreciate the video. but the proposal is not sound.

      Good morning Loseless! In regards to the shaky hands it is a side effect of a injury that occurred to my hands years ago; something I will live with for the rest of my life, but oh well my "dream" of being a hand model is over haha!
