I never realized until this past week how hilarious Yuji is. He was just a caricature villain to me for 35 years until seeing this season of Cobra Kai. And I happened upon Awesome Asian Bad Guys and he is flipping tremendous! God bless, Mr. Okumoto.
Actors who play villains a lot often tend to be friendly, amiable people off-camera. And if you run a restaurant and you’re not friendly and aimable, you’re in the wrong business.
@@missmokkori5558 Actually, he's a sansei Japanese American and I bet if someone were to greet him by bowing saying, "Konnichiwa, Yuji-san!", he probably would have said, "I appreciate your recognition of the customs of Japan but I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California."
@@DavidGarcia-re9qh Lol look around some time, (Or better yet listen lol) there's no shortage of English speaking Japanese/Americans. Hell my friend is Japanese and all he speaks is English lol
Yuji seems like a really nice guy.... Amazing how these guys can get into character (KK2) so much so that you'd think they suffered from split personality disorder....
@@christianpuente7259 I'm excited for Yuji to be in this really cool series. In person, he's a sincere guy, genuine, down to earth guy, so I hope he's with the series past season 3!
I really like him in TRue Believer. I couldn't believe ot when I saw it the same actor who played the Asian character in True Believer (I think the character was suppose to be Korean) played the Villain in KK2. I didn't know the actor who played Chozen had no accent until I saw some INterview.
@@ChrisC11291980 Mr Miyagi trained her so she may be in Cobra Kai. I hope she is because I think it would be good if Julie-san was in it. It would also annoy you which is also good.
Yeah, plus his wife in Johnny Tsunami is played by Mary Page Keller who’s husband Thomas Ian Griffith plays Terry Silver. I can’t wait to see Silver and Chozen fight in season 5 of Cobra Kai.
Karate kid 2 is my favorite in the movie series. I have to say though. One thing all three movies had in common is they left you the audience wanting more. Like, "hey wait a minute that's it, but what about this this and this".
Became a fan of him after i watched KK2. He should have played the role of Saito in Inception. But sadly he played the role Saito's assistant that too for few seconds. But he proved himself again in Cobra Kai.
Yuji is a character actor, what other project could he be involved with that he could not talk about besides Cobra Kai anyway? And I remember him saying just after Season One dropped here that he binged the show with his daughter and they loved it.
I know right and if someone was to greet him by bowing, he probably would have said, "Please, I appreciate your recognition of the customs of Japan but I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California."
You're a fool if you think that's a steroid physique. If he was that ripped but built like a tank at the same time then yeah, it's possible he was on steroids.
A very underappreciated actor.
Not any more lol
Yuji is such an awesome dude and soft spoken!

This is a terrific interview! Yuji Okumoto is amazing.
Now this is an actor. I never knew he sound this way.

Chosen! For the win! This guys career is back ...just get on Cobra Kai. We love you!!
Chozen speaks perfect English and sounds like a really nice guy. Wow, I got duped by Karate Kid 2.
He was born and raised in the US, that's why. I think he's a nisei japanese-american or something like that

"Chozen" better come back in S4!! I'd watch a Chozen spin off if one was ever discussed
I think a Chozen spin off should be a movie.
Lmao your wish was granted, dude's the best character on the show now
Looks like the guy in the Cobra Kai Season 3 teaser trailer. It's definitely him.
It is, he's the original actor from the karate kid 2, chosen
@@mthsskt I know that but we didn't see his face properly in the teaser.
Finally! Thanks for doing this interview, Yuji and Brian!

He was in Real Genius, too. Another classic 80s movie.
Yup, “They’re beauticians?!” 😁
Also in Better Off Dead. He was hilarious in that
@@christophe3776 And You're Never Too Young To Die with John Stamos and Gene Simmons.
Yuji was my favorite character as Chozen in KK2. He was so damn sexy and suave in that role nobody could have done it better.
Yup, he’s finally Cobra Kai!!
Cool interview - I'd like to see Yuji and Tamlyn in Cobra Kai season 3! I'm like rooting for that in every CK forum!
Valmont1978 That sounds plausible! I also think Chozen is a sense at a dojo and will turn out to be a good guy.
Looks like your wish has been granted. :D I'm excited for that, too.

The Karate Kid is so under rated
This is a great interview! Thank you Chozen!... by the way, I keep your souvenir for my correction! 😀👍

Ali might return. Barnes might return. Silver might return.
But the dude I really want to see return in Cobra Kai is Chozen!
I want ALL of them to return. Imagine the crossovers. The Karate Kid universe. Chozen vs Mike Barnes
I’d welcome the return of everybody but Hilary Swank.
bring back jackie chan!

No One what makes you think it would annoy me? I realize the movie is canon and it’s not my show anyway, I just don’t care for Hilary Swank.
Def talking about Cobra Kai at the end there
True Believer is a great movie. I have the VHS. Yuji is great in it also.
I like his accent in Karate Kid and Cobra Kai!
Maybe trouble looking for you 😂
That’s my favorite. 👍

1:03:08 where they talked about Cobra Kai
That "top secret' film he is involved with.....is Cobra Kai season 3. No doubt. He just can't say it.
