Thank you for correctly saying "southern Ohio". Most people, including self-proclaimed "educated" people, would have incorrectly said "South Ohio".
Awesome man!
You have a great channel thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Paul, that is really appreciated!
Man I really like your videos. It's cool the girls help out too. I like how you tag and follow the snakes. I got a couple nice den sites over in Pa.
Great little video my friend. Thankfully our population of them in my state is fairly strong. I really hope the horridus survive!!!
Thanks, me too!
There is a small pocket of rattlesnakes in ashtabula ohio ! I have seen massasauga and a timber too
Where can I send you a photo of a snake this past weekend that we seen in our area that I think is a Timber Rattlesnake?
Geauga, Ashtabula, Portage, and Trumbull counties actually have quite a bit of Rattlesnake friendly habitat. I figure I'll be doing more herping this spring and summer so I'll get in touch if I ever spot a Timber or Massasauga.
Weird, I’m near Trumbull but I’ve never seen them, very cool that they live around here
@vikingraider8061 they definitely do but they also very cryptid (hide at the slightest disturbance that seems bigger than they can eat. Walk soft and walk SLOW. Look up native American fox walk. You'll die of boredom before you find anything but when you find a thing it's absolutely amazing.
Also, welcome Ohioan.
How you spotted some of these snakes so well camouflaged in the leaf litter is just beyond my comprehension.
Very cool
Good Job to all of you.
I've seen one moving through my backyard before. Big boys, for sure.
What specific vhf frequency does the tracking chips run on if you don’t mind me asking? I’d love to find the snakes and admire them from a safe distance.
I appreciate your interest but we don’t disclose information that would allow our snakes to be found. We have very few live transmitters left in the field at this point and there will likely be none out there still functioning in a year or so. After five years of being tracked, captured, and monitored they deserve a break!
@@lifeunderfoot4805 I completely understand! Thanks for your response nonetheless!
Y'all in south East Ohio or South West Ohio? Thanks for sharing btw 👍🏻
kbishop94 southeast, they’ve been extirpated from southwestern Ohio, unfortunately.
I would say this is Shawnee. We have several Timbers.
@@lifeunderfoot4805 They found one at tappan lake 2 yrs ago, and they said they are not that far north but it Was on the news and in The paper,It was Ran over by a car
i never knew rattlesnakes were a thing in OHIO, same with coyotes until i seen one myself
I was unaware about the rattlesnakes too, we also have copperheads apparently never knew
I knew about copperhead not rattler though 😮
Good Eyes
The best place to find timber rattlesnakes and copperheads as in tar hollow State Park hands down....
Every time I find a timber rattlesnake there's a milk snake or a black rat snake with them LOL it's funny that you said that.
I love love LOVE that you have named them! Takes the fear right out... but not all of us know how to capture Maya. :o)
We live in east central Indiana right on the Ohio line. No venomous snakes have ever been documented in our county. I'm happy with that.
That’s where I grew up (Richmond)! Yup, all snakes down to at least Union County can be safely assumed harmless. There were historically copperheads in Dearborn and Franklin County but they may now be gone.
I never knew Ohio had rattle snakes
Unfortunately, there are not many left.
Copperheads and Rattlesnakes should be the only poisonous snakes in Ohio.
@@Shakerhood69 Correct! Two rattlesnake species and the copperhead...NO COTTONMOUTHS (water moccasins) lol
Right, hopefully no one thinks we have water moccasins
I thought it was eastern diamondbacks we didn't have many left.
The Timber Rattlesnake was present in the Niagara Gorge but disappeared in the 1930's.
Are these particular snakes making their way back north to re-establish presence in places where of recent they went extinct.
Unfortunately no, timbers are terrible at recolonizing habitat because they don’t move effectively through disturbed (roads, fields, towns, etc) landscapes.
Them talking about the fire that burned up a bunch of trees then my guess is that they are down at shawnee state park
It’s hard to know how exactly they survive fire, but they’ve certainly persisted in numerous areas with a long history of both prescribed and natural fires!
Cuyahoga county.... To populated for the common snakes.... The ones around here stand upright and talk
I did not know Timber Rattlesnakes were endangered in Ohio?
Unfortunately they’ve declined massively from a time when they were found throughout most of the state to just a few populations in the most remote/wild parts of southeast Ohio.
There is reason to try to save something that will kill you
I see you got your Tongs.com bucket lid
Those lids are great!
Only in ohio
Only in Ohio 💀
I hope they’re not in Cleveland. That’s all I hope
Should be safe.
I found one at my old job in Toledo Ohio three years ago. I worked at a factory, and it was in the loading dock! I was worried that it would get ran over or stomped on, so I picked it up and threw in some grassy area. Never knew we had rattlesnakes until that day. It scared me when it made that noise. Wasn't expecting that.
