That was great!
Those 5 seconds of video make the whole flight from Alaska and back worth it

Forgot to turn it off and on again?
Same lol
I would have enjoyed it but I had to rewind because of a poorly placed YT advert.
As a former mechanic, "throw parts at it and see what happens"...too real.
You have to add to that: "Throw parts at it, charge all of them to the customer, and see what happens"...
"If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!"
@@ezanchi5422 That's the correct way to do the job
Only a shit mechanic repairs cars in this manner. Sadly, by the time "mechanics" like yourself actually fix the car, you have no idea what the actual repair was as you have just R&R'd so many different parts.

This made me really miss my PC repair days. Back in the mid-late 2000s, when way more people still used desktops. Worked for local small shops doing hardware repairs like Jay is doing here on desktops and laptops.

Jay: Talks a lot about alaska being the problem
The riser: Well hello
That riser comes with TT p5 cases and it caused me the exact same problem.
@@briant6669 Yeah Thermaltake is Ali Express quality but available from other shops. People consider it a reputable brand but it isn't worthy of that.
"Have you tried troubleshooting your state?"
he said that the weather could be an additional factor that exacerbates the riser cable issue, he might not be wrong about the weather, and he did find the riser to be an issue, and that does not remove the weather as a possibility. i would suggest any PC be on a power supply serge protector anyways regardless of the local climate.
@@gardian06_85 I've lived in Alaska for a long time. There's a lot of things I've done over the years that would make Jay cringe and facepalm with my computers. Weather has never played a factor. In fact, winter time probably made my computers live as long as they did (over a decade) because I didn't have to worry about overheating issues by just cracking a window open. I even thought humidity would play a huge factor, but it didn't.
"Guess what's wrong..."
Informs everyone that there's a riser cable in the original build right before figuring out that the problem is a bad riser cable.

I just upgraded my PC today, and went through hell trying every troubleshooting method I could think of. Turns out, I forgot to toggle the switch on my power supply 🤣
Lol, that's how it was for my first build, i thought i killed it, and then flicked the power supply button and it worked.
My second build was a little more complicated. The board wouldn't boot from the case powerbutton, and i couldn't figure it out. I thought the board was dead, but jumped it with a screwdriver and it started right up. I took the front IO out of the case and pressed the power button on the pcb and not the case. And it worked. Figured out the problem. The button wasn't properly aligned with the button on the PCB. That's just one of the many problems i had with that case. It was the Lancool 2 orignal version. After many other problems like gpu seating being impossible, i had to get rid of it. I don't know if all the Lancool 2's were like that, but mine had no way to mount the gpu, as the motherboard PCB was basically touching the side of the case, and there was no way for the fingers on the pcie bracket to get in with going through the board.
Lol I was helping a coworker troubleshoot his PC over text. He said the monitor doesn’t show anything. After about 10 mins I ask if the HDMI cable is connected from the graphics card to the monitor. He’s like oh it’s supposed to go to the monitor? 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to the club
Ahhh you did the bitwit
I will build my pc tomorrow, hoping it will go smoothly, and the cooling will be enough, as I will have total of 2 fans in the case, cpu fan and a 80mm server fan, probs will put it on the cpu cooler for now too, because my fans will come after a month. I will def run it without the side panel for now
The little "bwoosh" when you bridged the pins on the motherboard killed me lol, i actually hurt myself laughing and i thank you

Well, how do you know?
Electrocuting himself with electricity nonstop a couple vids ago
I also want to know. I think he is confusing thermal insulation with electrical insulation here.
Jayz is on a static kick right now because of the Linus video that he feels he did first. I'm sure like another poster said that he was confusing electrical and thermal insulation. A house covered in snow still can be well grounded. The dry air can hurt but no more than in a desert and humidification with good grounding would solve any issues in Alaska.

@@Kjeleman he is, but to be fair, good electrical insulators are often also thermal insulators and good electrical conductors are often good thermal conductors. Pure ice should be a good electrical insulator.

I Love these videos !! Keep up the amazing work Jay!
Hardware Canucks just done a vid about riser cables worth a watch.
Yep, I saw that too, very interesting stuff.
Maybe Jay hasn't heard about the Gen4 riser cable problems yet.
In that video, they talked about some of the problems from the riser cables if both motherboard and gpu are pci-e 4.0. A lot of the issues this computer was having were the same kind of issues they were talking about. I'm wondering if changing the bios on the motherboard would have fixed the problem.
@@dashkataey1740 Idk if it would have fixed all the issues but when Jay installed the riser cable it started glitching out and gave him a black screen. I'm almost positive if he manually set the bios to gen 3 it would have fixed that issue completely. Kind of a shame he didn't think of it because I was really curious and though he would lol.
That one was an eye opener well worth watching!
I had to get rid of my p3 because of the riser issue with gen4, even with forcing it to gen3 in bios, did not work properly even then

Love this content, the troubleshooting stuff is where it's at!
The editing in this video is absolutely outstanding. Shout out to Phil! A real Artist!
As far as the riser cable is concerned almost all of them have an issue with the new generation GPU's due to them being PCIE gen 4. There's a bandwidth limitation which causes black screens, post issues, etc. That's why the PC gave you issues once you installed the cable. To fix this you need to set you output to PCIE gen 3 in the bios and 9 times out of 10 it fixes the issue completely. I wish you would have tried that.
Agreed. I had the exact same issue with my 3080. Bought a gen4 rated cable. Works perfectly
@@freakmanultra Someone said the exact same thing just now to Jay on his Twitter and he responded "That’s not how it works. 3.0 and 4.0 are completely compatible.
"....🤦♂️ I love Jay, but he can be so close minded sometimes lol. Of course they're "compatible" but that's not the issue here.. if you install a riser cable that can't handle the the PCIE gen4 bandwidth then obviously it's going to cause these issues because the board is trying to communicate with the card at the gen4 transfer rate.
Luckily the difference between gen 3 and gen 4 is 1 or 2 fps.
A recent video on what you mentioned.
ua-cam.com/video/KwfAF5XjXbM/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo
This is 100% an issue. As im running a vertical GPU mount kit I looked into this extensively.
There is info out there of people having tested "Gen 4.0" riser cables vs 3.0 and the consensus is that current Gen 4.0 might be compatible but, i.e you can boot on Bios PCIE set to AUTO, the actual performance is worse than using a 3.0 riser cable and setting Bios to Gen 3.0.
Linkup have acknowledged this and commented that that are working on a true Gen 4.0 riser cable for release is 1st quarter of 2021. I believe the issue is with the Gen 4 cable shielding requirements.
@@PabzRoz Actually no, it wont. Because if the gen4 transfer rate cannot be fullfilled, it automatically throttles back to the protocol below. It works this way for any bus technology. There is no problem to stay at gen3 transfer rate. This is not the cable that dictates the transfer rate but the results of trying and fullfilling a complete transaction under each protocol. Also, this is impossible for a gen3 cable to sustain the gen4 protocol. This cant be faked or work by any godlike miracle.
TLDR: Don't use Thermaltake products.
I have a cheap thermaltake case and had no problems or temperature issues for over three years now. I'm happy with it.

Jay: "don't buy a gigabyte power supply!"
Me looking at my 700w gigabyte power supply: 👀
When it breaks, just use iFixit 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I've had mixed results with power supplies and most eventually fail after a few years. I've had Expensive Seasonics, mid-grade Corsairs and ThermalTakes. For the Corsair and TT, they were modular and the modular boards busted on them out of no where. I converted them into benchtop power supplies. The Seasonic 1200 first had the fan fail, I replaced but it eventually stopped turning on. I'm now on Seasonic Focus.
The ONLY hardware to fail has been Power Supplies. I guess get a decent name brand and keep the load in specs, It'll eventually fail and rinse repeat. Most have good protection against current spikes so just pray it doesn't take anything along with it.
