    Love emeralds so much! Such a beautiful stone! That vibrant green makes it a for-sure, favorite of mine. The clarity and the color of the emeralds he showed, are exceptional beauties! I love the way that emeralds can be cabbed or faceted! And to facet them to enhance the color or the light play, is awesome! A sure fire way to make every stone, the best it can be! Amazing! And I think it's so awesome that he is giving back to Colombia, for all the years of success he enjoyed because of their emeralds. That is a truly great man and guest! Thank you for this lovely look at emeralds! 💚

    I’ve been so very lucky to recently have acquired a small Emerald Cut Colombian Emerald from the Cunas mine, so these are just stunning for me to see since I have one myself. I never appreciated Emeralds much for a very long time. Now that I own one, I can truly see their beauty. I think I didn’t appreciate them because I’m not much of a fan of the colour green, but emeralds truly do shine from within and have the most beautiful colour green to them.
    Another great videos you guys! 💚💚💚

    I love emeralds so much! But I personally would go for silver, platinum or white gold for cap on the crystals. ;) As a book series I enjoyed once would say, I'm a moon child rather than a sun child. Cool toned metals are best for me.

    So I was watching and at first a formed a wrong opinion. I was like look at this dude showing off his ring and stuff then I really got to thinking. 40 successful years in a business where you get to handle some of the worlds most beautiful and valuable gemstones and you get paid for that!! That’s freakin amazing. With that success you get to own your own beautiful pieces. I’d show off that ring too like “yup…who’s the man now!!”

    Thanks for showing the emeralds in their unmined calcite veins in the shale host rock. Next time I see a hillside that's black and clear of debris, I'll know to hammer and/or chisel away at any calcite veining that I see. I always enjoy the geological aspects of the host rocks as much as the gemological significance. Also, what type of UV light is that and does it require protective eyewear?

    • @gems
      @gems  Місяць тому

      We were using long wave UV. It doesn’t require protective eyewear, but you should always take precautions when using short wave UV

    What emeralds are best? That's easy: synthetic. Natural emeralds are occluded, cloudy, and overall junky in appearance. Lab-grown is so much better.

    • @danieljakistam9409
      @danieljakistam9409 Місяць тому +3

      The fun part is that I can find these stones myself and adore what nature made over the years. The inclusions, cloudiness etc. makes these stones unique and tell a different story. Synthetics are... synthetics. Theres nothing special about them. I always say that I would prefer to buy an original Mona Lisa painting instead of mere copy.

    • @DuncanL7979
      @DuncanL7979 Місяць тому +1

      Synthetic doesn't even come close to mimicking the natural emerald beauty. Emerald is one of the easiest stones to spot a 'fake'.

    • @AbuGrave365
      @AbuGrave365 Місяць тому

      @@danieljakistam9409I completely agree lab grown is pointless and a waste. The inclusions make the stone unique and beautiful I don’t understand how anyone could want lab grown anything

    • @briancurtis6022
      @briancurtis6022 Місяць тому

      @@DuncanL7979 Synthetic is not 'fake' any more than aspirin is 'fake willow root.' It's the same material in purified form.

    i’m super fascinated in gemstones colored by chromium.
    i’m wondering though; are there any gemstones with chromium in their composition? not as a coloring agent

    • @gems
      @gems  Місяць тому +1

      Great question! It's pretty rare to find but it can happen. Crocoite is a very fragile mineral, but it can be polished into a gem as we showed here: ua-cam.com/video/fZ08ljIxrvs/v-deo.html. Kosmochlor is another mineral with chromium in its base chemical formula. You may see it mixed in with jade or used as a jade simulant. Also, Uvarovite is a chromium bearing member of the garnet group. Its use as a gemstone is also rare, but you may come across it.
