I was adopted from Bogota Colombia in 1988. My parents bought three emeralds from Colombia when they came from the U.S and got me when I was 4 months old and put them in a gold n white gold ring when I turned 18 and gave it to me on my birthday. All in all it cost $1800 with everything. Best gift I’ve ever gotten and so cool I have a piece of my birthplace with me at all times. Just a neat story of emeralds I thought I would share.
This video was great as it explained the fact that many emeralds are filled with oils in the fractures and cracks to improve the stones clarity. Also, they explained that those emeralds can be more subject to cracking and cloudiness over time. The best emeralds you find in jewelry sold by the high end jewelers always contain some faults. Thats how you know they are real emeralds that have not been filled with any type of oil.
Love these documentaries, especially from Pakistan,Afghanistan and South America, the lure of precious to semi precious beautifull stones,I collect but only on a small scale, how I wish I could help these miners in poorer countries and change extraction methods, but that's the uniqueness of what they do along with the added associated risks, still I admire their tenacity and ingenuity, all the best to you.
Amazing how the earth can create such beauty. Gems really highlight the complex, often incomprehensible nature of humanity- the whole process can expose many of our less noble traits.
Beautiful!!! I myself have a gorgeous 3 & a half carrot, uncalibrated emerald cut, Columbian emerald!!! That I brought 20 years ago & it is still, in it’s little white Jewel box to this day... I paid $350 for it back then & I had it oiled & appraised 3 yrs ago... And, it is now worth $7,000!!! It is clear, absolutely no cloudiness, with mostly clear of inclusions, in a gorgeous deep Kelly green color!!! I will eventually, maybe have it set into a ring or necklace one day... Until then, it sits in its little white jewel box, in my safe deposit box for now... If I never have it set into a piece of jewelry one day, one of my daughters will inherit it, to do what she would like with it... But I have to say, it is one very, very pretty stone!!!
That La Lechuga is filled with super high quality emeralds. Easily worth more than 3 million dollars. ~370k in gold weight. The emeralds look sizable, clean, best color. Could be worth anywhere from 5k-50k per carat. Theyre probably the some oldest emeralds mined. For avg weight 1ct stones that is 7.4 to 74 million dollars in emeralds. They look bigger than 1 carat. I would double it for historical value. Honestly if you can hook it up I will take out a hundred loans today and buy it back for 6 million.
We have workers in the US that do the same thing. We do have OSHA Laws to keep them safer than in Columbia but this type of wori is tough and done by many around the world.

We humans assign value to weird things and a lot of people seem to suffer as a result. Often even those who are wealthy enough to afford gems and so forth. The human race is amazing, beautiful, and weird.
I love how casual they are about saying that the owner of the emerald mines is "presently under arrest". They should have replied "Don't worry about, what successful Columbian businessman or politician Isn't under arrest these days?"
I think they are using miners terminology and looking for the contact of the “hanging wall” and the “footwall.” This is where they suspect the main vein is that is producing the smaller veins they are finding. The hanging and footwall is a fault intersection usually where fluids can flow best. The hanging wall is the section above the fault plane and the footwall is always below the fault plane. Once they find the main vein on the wall assuming it’s richer they will follow it further down along the fault whichever way the fault dips.
@@alexburke1899 OK.....now back to the point....the geological term is "vein" and these are contained in whatever term you use to define their precise location under the surface you are drilling.
I've found that this a question of orientation. Veins are the tip of a layer of gem bearing material. A wall shows a side view of the full vein. IMO I would rather hit a wall.
