On a side note/rant: I'm really getting tired of these UA-camrs making videos about trying Linux for one week and then saying it's terrible and that they went happily went back to Windows. That's not a fair amount of time to decide something like that. It feels like they are just trying to trash Linux and chase people away from it.

I agree on the community based approach Linux takes. Being able to report issues on Github actually gets you somewhere. Where as when you submit feedback in Windows, it just gets ignored. I am concerned about the long-term health of gaming on Linux. I thought we would see more native ports by now. I don't trust Microsoft not intentionally breaking proton compatibility with new DX versions.
You reporting bugs on the linux gihub repo is throwing them into the void, nobody that develops reads them, kinda like with windows. xD The github repo is just a mirror. If you want to report bugs, bugzilla and the mailing list is where you should go. But 95% of users whould not know if it actually IS a kernel bug or not. Make sure you know that the bug you are reporting actually IS a bug in THAT system, not for example your distribution messing things up, the linux kernel is not responsible for that and can't really do anything about it.
I just like actually having control over how my PC works. That's it. Plus all my games run fine, sometimes even better than on Windows, and not to mention almost every de/window manager has a better workflow than Windows. Gnome with a few extensions is THE most efficient GUI I've ever used
Iv been using linux past 5 months, and the more i use it, the more it makes sense with how it works. Used windows last night to play fortnite with my kids and maybe bias here but my god its gross. File system really is an absolute mess.
You forgot the best part about gaming on Linux! When people ask you to play Destiny 2 or Fortnite with them you have a legitimate excuse on why you can't! I am still hoping for a desktop SteamOS release to replace Bazzite, the audio stuttering is a bit annoying especially since I play alot of indies and jrpgs on my couch rig

@@linuxnext read through the GitHub a bit more, looks like the audio issue got fixed in the 6.10 kernel but they regressed it back to 6.9 due to 6.10 causing more issues on the rog ally. So it's waiting for those issues to be fixed before getting the audio stuttering to be fixed
My first steps were on DOS 5.2 and Win 3.1. and played old games like Kyrandia, Kings Quest, OMF 2097 and whatever while trying to have enough EMS to launch them... XD Then I got Suse Linux from a Linux magazine and i tried it out, dualbooted with Win95/Win98 for some years. I tried figuring out a bug in Linux for my soundcard, but never succeeded. So I've discarded Linux for about ~12 years. When the eleventh iteration of Windows was presented, I'd rather giving up gaming and go back to Linux. I'm really enjoying Linux with Proton-Gaming, though sometimes it's still a hassle. There are still some good native Linux games like Factorio or X4F, some small/indie studios do have native versions as well. But you can count native versions for MMOs on one hand.
I use Linux for four years on my laptop and PC. Love open source and community. Still, I hope there will be more companies producing products with Linux OSes like Steam Deck
There are only two things I use windows for now. Printer maintenance, and occasionally I want to print 4 pictures on one page. In Linux I haven't found a simple way to manage my old epson printer. And I have yet to find a way to quickly select 4 photos and print them to one page. But I feel sick when i switch over, knowing that all those updates are running in the back ground, and that they will be reinstalling Edge on the computer again, sigh. Thanks for the video 🙂
Yes I can probably get the epson software running with minimal effort, but I have got lazy in my old age. It prints fine, its only a problem if one cartridge is faulty which has only happend a few times in the last couple of years, so it never seems worth the effort to figure it all out. But now that you have said it, I feel I had better at least have another look ;-D . I dont know about finding an alternative for selecting 4 photos in the file manager and printing them all on one page with just a couple of clicks though. Ive done some searching, but decided it took less time to restart the computer and switch to the old windows hdd ;-)
Well you could also use something like winget on Windows, to make software installation a bit faster. But, who cares about M$ malware anyway? I find it's easier to just run Linux than to modify Windows to a level where it's usable, clutter free and secure.
yes it should work great, they have a nvidia image so everything is setup and i have tested my rtx 2060 on that nvidia image also and its works perfectly with the games i tested which was the finals and apex legends

I am using Linux next to Windows for two decades now, partially (I skipped the latter part of Vista, the entire of 7 and 8.x) exclusive and now that all my VR headsets function fine with Linux too, I dropped Windows 10 Pro like a month ago. Don't get me wrong, I am fairly confident that I can handle Windows well enough and to me personally, 10 from start to finish was an amazing operating system. It's just I enjoy using Linux more - especially since my systems are all AMD and Valve pushes hard for the gaming side. In my opinion Microsoft goes the wrong path with Windows 11 which never made any sense to me even when it released. Wouldn't mind checking out Win12 some day if they fix their mess again. I still hate the elite-ism that is a big issue with the Linux community but so is the case with ney sayers on the Windows side who blame you for even considering anything but GeForce graphics cards, let alone sticking with Windows 10 or anything.
After decades on Win and then Win + Linux i've ended up in the situation of being Linux only and viewing Windows as i've always viewed Apple Macs; an OS that is no part of my life... a long winded reply. lol
I mean when a package is installed the traditional way on Linux like a system package version, if your running a distro let's say arch or Gentoo it is going to be updating faster so a application like Spotify has more of a chance of breaking because it may depend on older depends that those Distros won't be using anymore Flatpak on the other hand is containerised as explained in the video, so it has its own depends, when you install something like Spotify it will grab what is needed inside of Flatpak and so it won't break because those depends will be static for a lot longer, flatpak can work across every Linux distro without a hassle aswell so it brings a lot of advantages to the Linux desktop and solves the main problem with packages on Linux Developers no longer have to play catch up and provide 10+ different packages of their app on Linux, they can just do 1 and it will work across all Distros, and when it comes to updating its extremely easy for the Dev also as the user will just get a update in their gui store if there is one, the user won't have go to the manufacturers website to grab a new version of use some third party updater for that application
Here in Europe, you uninstall Edge, and doesn't come back. In my main PC i have to use Windows till the end of the year, but i use Fedora KDE on my laptop. I want to change to Fedora Cosmic or KDE, so i will wait a little while.
fair enough, cosmic is going to be awesome desktop by the end of the year, wouldnt be surprised if its pretty stable by then and includes the majority of features for the end user
Hello Linuxnext, have you encountered a problem in plasma 6.2 where if you try to configure audio in system settings, it will show nothing. But when you switch to other settings then back to audio, everything is shown. Have you encountered this after your update to plasma 6.2 ?

The way you put it doesn't really make Linux objectively better in any way compared to other systems, but you are right when it comes that people especially from the gaming side of things love to trash on Linux. On a day to day basis, I suppose that most people don't even care for their OS which gets easily backed by the fact that more and more folks are fine just using their phones for everything. It's just Microsoft pushed hard ever since to make sure Windows is where it stands these days with huge supports from software developers and that the Linux train started and stopped several times in the past, with the recent push really only coming from Valve while everyone else takes a backseat.
Probably because if you fail to understand and use something, or that you feel attacked for using a inferior thing, a defense can be to lash out at the things you fail to understand. If you have young children, you probably know what I am talking about here.. xD
Some people are just stupid. Trashing Linux ≠ stupid, but sometimes the first comes from the second. People not wanting to see benefits of Linux, just blindly using Windows that "just works", even tho sometimes it doesn't, as well as Linux, people just don't see that.
And how many distros did you try to come to that conclusion? Linux is not an operating system, it's a kernel. I'm sorry you could not figure it out and instead selected to go back to PAYING an operating system that gives zero respect to you as a user.
what hardware do you have and what distro did you choose? if you chose a distro like mint or a LTS distro then you can have a bad experience because it being 2 or so years behind dev work that has been done, trying something like fedora 41 beta with kde plasma desktop or bazzite linux can 100% be a better experience then those distros because they use newer packages and are using newer tech like wayland for example to improve multi monitor experience etc and also 4 days isnt long, maybe it being buggy is actually you not understanding how linux works(no offense) took me 2 years to learn the majority of things about linux desktop and i made a lot of mistakes that made it seem like it was buggy when it was just me being dumb lol
I used Nobara for 1 week, it was buggy (GUI updater, KDE Plasma and nvidia optimus issues). I switched to Arch, didn't have a major problem since, and very little of minor ones.
Actually, I no longer even think about which operating system is running on my PC...
It just runs btw :)

Adding onto the fact that developers and gamers on Windows WANT kernel level anti-cheat is also concerning for multiplayer gaming.

For game recording Steam recently added a game record and video editing feature. Its been my replacement for amd replay

The drivers are good, but all the extra software that Windows gets is a joke.

actually there is a package manager for windows it’s called winget and it’s. pre installed on windows 11 it’s not as great as a linux package manager.

Valve have worked very hard on amdgpu and RADV in mesa because of steamdeck so it benefits also desktop GPUs especially rdna2
