Wow what an amazing video. My fundamentals have been wack, definitely been turning my shoulders could not figure out how pro players get their eyes down on the line so well until I saw this. Thank you CJ
Thanks again C J for putting it out there. Had a table over 20 years. Go through playing spurts but never get much better, probably worse. I will try to be more conscious of my stance and alignment. Improvement is what keeps a person going. Shouldn't be hard for me to improve haha. Thanks again man.
This has made my shot making improve immensely. I worked on it for a couple hours and it is amazing. It hurt my back at first because it was different stance from what I was used to. Thank you CJ
I’m very thankful someone showed me this years ago. Very good info. As soon as I see a side saddler I know I’ve just got to focus on not beating myself with mistakes and I’ve basically won the match
That's interesting how you shoot. But I'm an advanced player. So processing what I want the cue ball to do. Is my second main concern. So when I'm standing up, centered, I'm processing English, force and speed. Then get down on the shot. Very interesting though and I learned some things. Appreciated
You will definitely be a more advanced player when you can do what I'm showing - I ran 28 racks in a row playing the Ghost in Atlanta - the table had a name because of the 4 inch pockets and Deep shelf....JAWS! 🦈 The reason my consistency was so high was due to my Alignment which is the key to Aiming ....it takes about 3-8 hours of work to learn this technique but we'll worth it - I'm almost embarrassed to state how much it's generated in my life The Game is the Teacher

CJ thank you for this. Even though you are teaching this based on only your own vision center (just to the right of the bridge of your nose for a right eye dominant center), as right handed but super dominant left eye, i must do a sort of ballet move with my right foot to put my right toe just to the left of the shot line and 90° to the line, stepping out wide to the left with my left foot, keeping the foot parallel with the shot line. Then, when I push out my hips as you say, and turning my head 45° to the right to align up my left eye, I come down on the shot perfectly aligned with lots of clearance for my cue and right arm, making the shot. The real trick is finding the shot line in the first place while standing up, which i sm learning to do by trusting my brain to give me the right line.
You eyes just need to work together when aiming above the shot - put the butt of your cue in the center of your chest pointing out, level, from the cueball to the object ball......then you'll have a reference for your center.....center of your chest Is the center of your vision when your eyes work together.....when you get down on the shot you'll naturally position towards your "dominant" master eye.....find your center and center of balance, you'll be more consistent.

Hi CJ, I commented on another one of your videos this morning asking about Center-to-edge alignment. But what I’ve learned from these 4 videos is that I was indeed lining up off my right hip instead of from the center of my chest! It’s weird how when you come back to something after you’ve had some experience, then it just “clicks” and makes more sense. I love TOI but I always struggled a bit with consistency. Now I understand why!! My practice session this weekend will be nothing but engraining this into my head. Thank you!! I’m also subscribing to your website.
Yes if you're not centered then your perception isn't the same cutting to the left or cutting to the right - imagine shooting a pistol, basketball or throwing a dart off the right hip line instead of the Center......it will take you 2-3 weeks to make the transition but it will be worth it, your full potential will go up 20-50% as the game gets easier and easier
This video significantly helped me out. I've always had decent body mechanics but there was something missing in my stance and footwork and through this video I found my personal comfortable center. I'm enjoying your content and am a new subscriber. Nice man cave by the way!
Thanks I appreciate that - and yes this is an awesome game room to play, practice and teach. There's more to come and my private website has more in-depth instructional videos at www.cjwiley.com
Keeping it in the center, great tip, never actually thought about it back when I played, guess that’s why I missed a lot of shots I should have made. Thanks for the tip CJ, maybe I’ll be able to get back to playing soon, really miss it. 👍
love from China. love your accent as I lived in south of states for yrs. Quick question, have you ever experienced with pelvis pain or SI joint pain, especially from right hip/leg/low back? I now feel even worse when aiming lower and put left leg aside. I wonder if it's a common headache for pool players who plays 2-3hr a day.
The way I go down on the shot puts very little stress on my body, I can still easily play 8-10 straight hours - some of my students have neck and back issues and want to learn this technique to relieve the pain from playing several hours in leagues or tournaments - it's best to use your hips and let your head come down as a RESULT of your hips/butt pushing straight back. Hope this helps, Mahalo 🌴
This really has corrected what I was doing wrong. Rebooted and reprogrammed. Thanks CJ. Question, I see so many different types of forearm swing. Can you do a video on dropping the elbow? Or when not to drop the elbow? 💪🏼 TGITT
Dropping the elbow is okay but NOT the shoulder - you want to find your position using what I showed in Centering Video and pay attention to your elbow position, it should feel slightly Coiled with your shoulder.....takes some trial and error but what I showed will speed up the progress. Shoot Straight 💪
Also I go around my house practicing this. CJ correct me if I’m wrong but I just start centering myself on stuff. Like a bottle of soap on the table. It just helps me get inline and move my hips not my head.
That's smart! Another thing is to stand as much as possible with your left foot 3-5 inches in FRONT of your right toe while you're centering - even exaggerate it and practice stepping Behind your left foot with your right so you can keep the left foot in Front.....I am in this position the entire time I play pool, so is a lot of other champion players.....it makes the game much easier and your consistency will rise so your entire game benefits.
I've seen you up at breaktime a lot lately. Decided to check out your UA-cam and glad I did. One of my biggest issues is feeling like I'm having clearance issues or feeling of center. I'm very much a feel shootwry, almost to a fault. If something feels even a little off I shoot terrible. I think this may help a lot. I'm going to go up to breaktime tonight to give this a try. Next time I see you up there I'd like to ask about lessons for sure.
That's cool, and I can definitely help with any positioning or clearance issues - it's important to get it exactly right and it makes everything else much easier. I may come up there later tonight not sure yet. Shoot Straight 💪
Very helpful content, this 👍 I've been playing pool for more than 20 years now and have more than once been attested pretty decent fundamentals - which helped me a lot to reach my former playing level rather quickly after a couple of years of not playing - but in this video you really nailed it and shared some valuable insights and advice! Thank you very much!
Beautiful Crown. Have a VI myself. Mere mortal 4 1/2" pockets. I think my footwork is good. I've been playing so long, just walk up to the shot, see the line, drop and shoot. Left foot on the shot line, right foot set back parallel shot line. When I miss it, it's not because I didn't know where to aim, the stroke went off. Mark Gregory? I see his name all the time on a Brunswick Facebook page. Looking forward to your TV events.
So many of the English snooker players look like they are stepping out side ways - they are almost square to the shot. I'm wondering how they get their hip out of the way?
They swivel and straighten their right leg I think - this isn't a snooker stance at all.....this stance gives more power but the snooker players pot balls very well so they are connected for consistent shot-making.
Yes it's best to be as efficient as possible, removing unneeded moving parts - experiment with what I'm showing and in a few hours you'll make positive progress.
Mr. Wiley, thank you for such a tip. I’ve been looking for it for ages. I play snooker mostly so my stance is lower than yours. Could you please explain how to stand lower? Do I have to push hips even further so as to be able to lower my spine?
Hey CJ, I have a unique pool game I just thought off. Feel like it may encompass more than shoot or dare, but who knows I’m no genius of pool. That’s for sure. It’s Just 1 player playing rotation from 1-7 and other player plays rotation 9-15. 8 money ball
Great video CJ. Just came across your toi system and found it to be quite intriguing. I've been practicing it & getting a little frustrated as it seems to work perfectly sometimes & sometimes especially on long & extreme cut shots not so much. Even for position. My main question is do you use this system for every possible shot? And for all positions.
Sometimes you'll have to spin the cueball to change the angle off a rail, or for swerving the ball at times....I play my best when I make myself cue everything a Hair to the inside, especially on long shots it's just a Touch/Hair of inside or you'll overcut the shot usually.
So the point is that try to align ourselves centered with the line then start taking the left foot forward and right foot slide then we use our hips / push our hips right? Pls need your answers i need this🙏🏻
You shouldn't move your Right Foot it's the Anchor - the left foot is in FRONT of the Right Toes - so the hips are angled to the Right of the Alignment Line so when you push your hips back the Slot opens up for the cue to be in the best position - this takes between 3 and 8 solid hours to learn, it took me 2 weeks before I mastered it and felt natural.
not really, that requires squatting - just push your tailbone back 2 feet And keep your back straight - this will force your head down to the shooting position in one piece....you want to control your head with your body, not your body with your head like the majority of low level players do.
@@cjwiley1541 got it so the left feet is in front of right toe and as we get down to the shoot we gotta push the tailbone right? I think this is the most accurate stance therefore i shall follow champ i need to comprehend this🙏🏻
I was just talking about you with a young pro Justin Martin - told him about the Mosconi Cup and our player that was drinking 5 hour energy and coffee😂 I know you remember that night in London!
Funny you mention that night. A few days ago JA and I were talking about that night as well-in great detail. I’ll never forget! Over the last 38 years in pool, like you there’s been many nights-that one is in the top 5 memories for better or worse. As well as the night in Cue Club you played Mark Tadd. I treasure those memories, the game is the teacher and we sure have learned a lot along the way. 💪😃❤

Great content C.J.! Where was this video filmed at? I'm not sure which part of that showroom (for lack of a better term) that I'm enamored with the most. As always, thank you for the tips they are very much appreciated. 🎩
This is a private game room in North Carolina where I'm currently at - we are setting it up to do TV events in the future......It's a beautiful room, the tables and lighting is great too, Mark Gregory did the table work, he's probably the best in the country. I appreciate you bud, play well and Shoot Straight 💪
I've never used CTE - my Alignment is Center to Center for most shots, cut shots it changes to Center to Edge but that's just a starting position, I Triangulate my aiming so it's basically second nature.....but the Alignment is challenging and takes about 2-3 weeks to learn and make natural. My instructional videos are at www.CJWiley.com
Always to the Center to Center or Center to Edge Alignment - then Triangulate the angle from there, you'll be surprised that you can see half ball in either direction when properly Centered.
How do you determine where the cue should be under you...once I clear my hips the cue seems to naturally align under my left hand eye. I shoot left handed.. If I turn more the cue will go under my chin but then my shoulders are turn more and out of position?
You want to be Centered above the shot and when you go down to shoot you'll instinctively drop into your ideal position as long as your footwork is as I described and demonstrated.
@@cjwiley1541 Thank you... I believe then my ideal position is the cue under my left eye when I go down...I do have to open foot more to clear my hips but my right foot parallel... Thanks so much...Your website great and learned a great deal!!
Interesting. I like it. It seems many modern players like Fedor step forward into the stance like they teach for snooker. I learned in the 70's and everyone said to step back into the line so that's how I do it. I think Filipinos kind of do what you show here. I just looked at Alex and that's how he does it. Efren is similar but after his foot goes to the left he does another little shuffle where he moves his right foot slightly to the right.
Watch SKY Woodward, he's a great sample example - this knowledge made millions for me, it's nice to share, some will get it and others won't and the time/effort is well worth it to learn - it takes 8-10 hours to learn usually.
I’ve been having the hardest time hitting easy straight in shots!!!! I tried this last night and wow, the alignment change had made a very obvious difference! I’m looking forward to my next practice session. Thanks CJ!
I think it would make it difficult to hear the shot, personally I use my senses and one of the best bank pool players in the country told me he banks to make a certain sound - it's easy to get coached these days using an ear piece so they probably shouldn't be allowed
Everyone can be different and usually favor their dominant eye however it's Above the shot that I recommend Centering your vision and body, then go naturally down and your eyes will probably align properly for you.
I would love to see a video of you discussing your right foot placement vs the placement Mark Wilson teaches in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ik_m4OYKfo8/v-deo.htmlm37s He's got his right foot perpendicular to the shot line without crossing over it. I'm not sure if the rest of your alignment is the same, but I'm new to all this and trying to determine which to go with.
What I'm showing is totally different, less moving parts especially with the head - it's easier to learn but to have less moving parts requires a dedicated effort for 8-10 hours until it feels natural to Always have your left foot In Front of the right foot toes/front - the game will get approximately 30% easier within 2-3 weeks from my experience.

Hope this helps, Mahalo 🌴
very helpful.Thanks you sir.@@cjwiley1541

@@cjwiley1541I’ll have to check it out, I watched a few of your matches from the 90’s. Really fun to watch.
Well done!
Very helpful content, this 👍
I've been playing pool for more than 20 years now and have more than once been attested pretty decent fundamentals - which helped me a lot to reach my former playing level rather quickly after a couple of years of not playing - but in this video you really nailed it and shared some valuable insights and advice! Thank you very much!
You're welcome my friend 💪 Shoot Straight
Good video this works nice!
Good information, thanks
Which is your dominant eye
I'm Right Eye Dominant but it was nothing I had to think about - I just make sure I'm centered, I use the center of my chest as a reference.
So C.J I have a bad habit of putting my hips back an left an not straight back. This cause lot of side movement in the back swing?
Yes it's best to be as efficient as possible, removing unneeded moving parts - experiment with what I'm showing and in a few hours you'll make positive progress.
@cjwiley1541 do you do any type of online lessons?
Mr. Wiley, thank you for such a tip. I’ve been looking for it for ages. I play snooker mostly so my stance is lower than yours. Could you please explain how to stand lower? Do I have to push hips even further so as to be able to lower my spine?
I'll be your huckleberry. Been awhile CJ. Love the videos my FE friend

Hey CJ! Another great video. My question is this..when you line up which ball do you focus on first? Cue ball or object ball. ?
Thanks
So the point is that try to align ourselves centered with the line then start taking the left foot forward and right foot slide then we use our hips / push our hips right? Pls need your answers i need this🙏🏻
You shouldn't move your Right Foot it's the Anchor - the left foot is in FRONT of the Right Toes - so the hips are angled to the Right of the Alignment Line so when you push your hips back the Slot opens up for the cue to be in the best position - this takes between 3 and 8 solid hours to learn, it took me 2 weeks before I mastered it and felt natural.
“Push the hips back” does it mean like as if we wanna sit down on the chair?
not really, that requires squatting - just push your tailbone back 2 feet And keep your back straight - this will force your head down to the shooting position in one piece....you want to control your head with your body, not your body with your head like the majority of low level players do.
@@cjwiley1541 got it so the left feet is in front of right toe and as we get down to the shoot we gotta push the tailbone right? I think this is the most accurate stance therefore i shall follow champ i need to comprehend this🙏🏻
@rifqifalih1968 Yes! 💯
Totally awesome best explanation of stance ever !
Spot on!
Hope your well.

thank you CJ Wiley
You're welcome, Shoot Straight 💪
Let’s talk about that house and pool room! I want to hear an interview of whoever owns that house to find out how he got his wife to let him build that beautiful pool room!
It's not at s house and it must remain an undisclosed location - until Batman gets back then he'll probably tell everybody, he can't keep a secret! 😉
@CJWiley Someone mentioned you've a video out there on CTE aiming? Is there a link available?
I've never used CTE - my Alignment is Center to Center for most shots, cut shots it changes to Center to Edge but that's just a starting position, I Triangulate my aiming so it's basically second nature.....but the Alignment is challenging and takes about 2-3 weeks to learn and make natural.
My instructional videos are at www.CJWiley.com
Thanks for explaining that CJ, I'll give it a look 👍
Is this updated on your website “Master class”?
This is my UA-cam channel so it's not on the website at this time.
Great video
So on a cut shot are you aligning your left foot parallel to the shot line or parallel to the center-to-center/center-to-edge line?
Always to the Center to Center or Center to Edge Alignment - then Triangulate the angle from there, you'll be surprised that you can see half ball in either direction when properly Centered.
@@cjwiley1541 Thanks for the reply
How does left eye dominant affect this alignment.
👍👍
I’ve been having the hardest time hitting easy straight in shots!!!! I tried this last night and wow, the alignment change had made a very obvious difference! I’m looking forward to my next practice session. Thanks CJ!
Keep up the good work, the ideal Alignment is the key that unlocks the deepest levels of pocket billiards.
Question: What do you think about wearing ear plugs while shooting in tournaments.
I think it would make it difficult to hear the shot, personally I use my senses and one of the best bank pool players in the country told me he banks to make a certain sound - it's easy to get coached these days using an ear piece so they probably shouldn't be allowed
my left eye is my center vision. how do i center when i am right handed but my left eye is over the cue?
Everyone can be different and usually favor their dominant eye however it's Above the shot that I recommend Centering your vision and body, then go naturally down and your eyes will probably align properly for you.
how you like the carbon
The BULL CARBON has the feel of wood and more power, I just got a new tip that made it even better, it was a G2 Tip
thanks for response

The shot you missed is a center to center shot 😊
definitely a Edge alignment, it's good to show I'm human jk - we only had time for one video take so must have rushed it😉

I would love to see a video of you discussing your right foot placement vs the placement Mark Wilson teaches in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ik_m4OYKfo8/v-deo.htmlm37s
He's got his right foot perpendicular to the shot line without crossing over it.
