I just had one of the most bizarre "coincidences" of my life - driving out in the country looking for a small road that leads to a mountain bike trail in the country. Me and you talked at the derby, after you left, I thought “man I wanted to ask him about how music compares to pool” just because I’ve been a musician since I was a little kid just like you and I love when you compare pool to music I would love for you to do it more. Thanks for being so cool. It was awesome meeting you at the derby. Have a great day. CJ - Jesse.
Thanks champ for sharing your knowledge
can someone pls explain to me what it means to "triangulate the angle"? I understand the centering part but if im only lining up to the center or edge of the ball how do i get the exact line of the pot...?
All the shots on a pool table form a triangle when you have a reference line between the cueball and object ball that would be 0 degrees, but most players don't use the reference every shot because they don't know how the footwork and stance position is established - I teach this from the ground up and now have a SuperStance and Stroke trainer to help players learn in 2-3 weeks - I also include 5+ videos showing how to utilize them best to get solid results......this will be available within 48 hours at www.cjwiley.com - I also have videos about it on UA-cam
these stories made me realize the story of Kid Delicious , could you add his life to your movie and have you ever met him
No, I'd never heard of him until he wasn't playing much, he must have been playing 99-2009 when I was focused on my businesses and not playing much pool - he seemed like an interesting character.
You mentioned you knew the same people as Keith Mcready. Did you know Dean De Forest?
We know a lot of the same people , never heard that name though
Cool. He was supposedly a strong player and was good friends with Keith. Just wondering how good he was. Have a good one. And thanks for the stories.✌️
Hello CJ I live here local by the Derby and go every year and was so looking forward in to running in to you when you said in one of your videos that you was coming again didn’t see you I was really excited to meet you and was wanting to get your autograph on my case hopefully down the road next time
I was there every day this year, just didn't play much pool, I'll play next year.
Hahaha yes practice doesn't make perfect.... perfect practice though? That can get ya there :P
note: perfection does involve a matter of personal style. One person's perfect is maybe not anothers
Yes, that's why I'm offering a Stance and Stroke trained this week so players can have a way to practice perfectly - of course perfection in pocket billiards is more of a journey than a destination. The Game is the Teacher
Looks like South Houston lake? Near Bristol Tenn
Haulston lake is probably right
I hope you get your movie going, CJ. Someone was doing a low budget film on Louie. ua-cam.com/video/FbsySquYJRQ/v-deo.html lol, not sure it will win any awards. St. Louis and Columbia, Missouri pool was a lot of fun back then. Crazy wild days.
I'm glad you mentioned Surfer Rod. I saw him play a few times in Wendover Nevada a few times when he lived in Ogden Ut. What a charcter and gambler he was back in the day.
My mentor was the quintessential hustler.. the only time he was named was winning the Miller lite tournament in 1984-ish (won as a underdog vs Scotty Townson) & then got 2nd 1992 (as the favorite) see a pattern?.... But I watched him bust Grady & then barely beat a, blind, 1 armed guy in a wheelchair.. & The misses where next level. I'd keep track & have him show me how he missed & 9 times out of 10, it was purposeful.. His art was playing just barely above his opponent's speed. Ask Danny Diliberto about Mike from WV
I think Omaha John won the Miller Lite tournament in 84, I won it in 86 - I'm sure I'd know who you are referring to, what's his last name?
Hey CJ, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. I find them invaluable. I am waiting with great anticipation for your training aids to become available. Thanks again.
I have them ready to go just waiting on some fine tuning on my Store at www cjwiley.com - the tools will help a lot and quickly, the essential thing is the access to my videos that show how to utilize them best. Should be ready tomorrow, I'll let everyone know asap - $hoot $traight bud, thanks!
That touch of inside kicked in.. 😉🙏
Is it possible to improve in your 70s ?
Yes, 100% - unless you're Efren maybe😉
C.J.This is arguably the best episode you have ever done. You let us see a side of you that anyone would want to be best friends with. I also want to thank you for mentioning Surfer Rod, I was shocked at just how clever and devious the media is with scripting, after listening to this and connecting the dots it's like I believed the world was square my whole life and I just found out that its round. ( LOL) And you really showed us how to look out for it. Thank you, because of you I AM AWAKE NOW!! LOL. Yes absolutely I want to order your book and your training materials right when I get home tomorrow. I am so glad you are offering that personally signed too!! And that you are personally handling the distribution and everything at least in the begining. Well you said we could ask questions, so CJ my questions are, What cue were you playing with at your time in the Mosconi Cup? What cue did you use to beat Earl and Efren? and finally your most favorite cue of all time? Thank you CJ, for the guidance you've given us in pool and in life. "The game is the teacher" 👍
I appreciate you my friend, it's good to awake in this reverse engineered reality we find ourselves in .....it's always best to see the hustle, there's always a counter move ....but those that don't realize they are getting hustled will go along with any agenda that is presented to them. My favorite cue of all time is the one I'm using now, a Bludworth with a Bull Carbon 11.8mm shaft - the Kamui brown "Athletic" (not sure about the name) Tip is what I'm using now at the recommendation of Joe Blackburn who knows a lot more about Tips than I do......always good to get steered by an expert. The Game is the Tournament
Another great video! Just getting over both total knee replacement surgery, and in another month or so, i would like to get some pool tutorials, lessons , or term which best fits. A little more healing and might be able to come down to TN. If you are still in that area, or if you get close to Paducah KY, let me know. Hope to see you soon.
Sounds good, the stance I teach is good for your body and takes stress off the back and neck - it takes a couple weeks to learn but we'll worth it. Shoot Straight my friend 🎯
Another high quality pool movie would be fantastic. The thing about pool is that there's an underworld element to pool. Maybe not as much today, but pool still has that legacy reputation. That's important for a pool movie and to capture that dark underworld element. Why? Because people are drawn to the datk underworld. That's why mafia movies were so popular. Non pool players would be drawn to such a movie like they were for The Hustler and Color of Money. You notice how a serious golf movie was never made? There's no darkside to golf. Only golfers watch golf. Still can't wait for your book. Us guys that have been around the game for decades just can't get enough of pool stories from great road players.
I totally agree, nobody has ever ask me how it felt or the details to winning the World Open but they love the gambling stories - I have an idea for a movie that would do well, mixing the pool hustling world and the drug world - taking down a Kingpin by the triple steer would be the main theme.
I definitely will try to be one of the first people to buy your trainer. 👍
I remember seeing an interview with Rafael Martinez and he spoke very highly of a flatter tip (on his playing cue, elkmaster). Your mention about the big cueball/flatter tip brought to mind David Matlock (regarded by many as one of the best ever with the big cueball); did he play with a flatter tip in his prime?
Playing with the big ball would flatten the tip naturally - I played with a mud ball one time that was heavier than a big ball .....I had to reshape my tip after that match it was flat as a board!
Thanks for putting out an audiobook format - I'll buy as soon as it's available!
My man! What ever you do, don’t play CJ in ping pong…🍿👀
Great video!! I look forward to what is ahead!!
a new movie will be fantastic
I agree! One that rivals The Hustler and The Color of Money for entertainment and authenticity
Hey brother. Can't wait for the book (print and audio). *Did you ever come through Milwaukee in 70's-present? Bill Meilke? George Brunt? George Pawelski? Willie Munson? Larry Nevel? *Or The Carom Room in Beloit, WI. Jeff Carter? John Brandon ("Rebel")? David Coles (Sr & Jr)? Love ya bruh. Thank you bigtime for all you do! ⚪️❤️💪
I knew most of the names you mentioned, played a lot of tournaments with Jeff Carter and was around Meilke and George Brundt (when he lived in Bradenton FL)....the last names I don't recognize and Larry Nevel was playing his best when I wasn't playing between 99-2009ish - he was a monster, that draw shot he did one handed was Amazing!
Cj you oughta get someone on to tell some Vernon Elliot and Ronnie Allen stories. really like your content
The second Podcast I did with Keith McCready we talk about Ronnie and Vernon you"d like that one if you haven't seen it.
@ I enjoyed that podcast I watched it twice lol. You have any podcasts scheduled in the near future?
if I was better than shane I would hit the circuit since he made 1,000,000 last year according to google.
Nobody is better than Shane
@cjwiley1541 Funny you mention that. I uploaded a video a couple of days ago showing a common amateur mistake SVB made on a critical missed shot in a match against Jason Shaw.
@@nvpoolshooteryes, they are all human and will dog it under the heat.....I used to get in the mental state of mind to just put maximum pressure on my opponent ..... the better the player the more pressure it takes to make them dog it. This can be a double edged sword sometimes, even the greatest players can get beat 20+ games in a row occasionally.
@cjwiley1541 I'm curious, did you happen to watch the video? Be curious to get a pro's opinion.
CJ, I was at the Dirby the first and last Friday of it.. talked to lots of pros and really enjoyed that and watching them play. I was sitting directly behind Nick Varner when Fedor and Shane played 1pocket on the 5x10… got to talk with Nick afterwards and to Fedor… Had a really great time… but to be honest… I was so hoping to run into you out there.. you and I are pretty much the same age and I always loved watching you play back then and I always looked up to you! One day I’ll get the honor of meeting you and a part of my bucket list will be complete. Thank you so much for all you do and all the really great story’s life on the road!!
I was hanging out there both Fridays but didn't stay in one place very long - I look forward to meeting down the road someday my friend, I appreciate the message and I'll keep up the content....I told my partner that I wanted to do a Show with Keith, Omaha John and JR Welding and he lit up immediately so we'll probably make that happen soon if possible.....you'll definitely get a kick out of their road stories, I already know a lot of them but it's always better to hear from the original person - the 80s were a great time to be a pool player especially with the Color of Money coming out in 86, I'm sure you remember that period of time! The Game is our Teacher
I'd love to hear the podcast you were referring to with you and Keith and the other guys. Love your "Adventures On The Road". Very entertaining and educational. Please keep em coming! Thanks.
Looking forward to the book. Do you remember who you played in Minneapolis years ago? Was Gentleman Jim's your only stop?
The book goes over the details but we played all over Minnesota and there's a list of players we played that would be long - Ted Williams is the one Dalton played at Genteman Jim's on Lake Street.
I think Williams was from up north, if I remember right. Duluth, maybe. Don Gibson was another good player here, and Roger Frank sometimes called The Bartender. Milwaukee Doug, Crazy Terry were a couple others. Many big games happened at Lynbrook Bowl after hours when the bars closed. Moby Dicks was a pretty good place for game as well. Great times.
Did you know a pool player from Missouri called John Dudley
Yes I played him in Quincy and ended up in Hannibal....I got the best of him but he was tough!
@ I live in Hannibal
Soon as they are available I want an autographed stance and stroke trainer will I be able to buy these without not belong to your website ?
yes it's separate and you'll have access to the training videos.
I would like to purchase it also!! Would ne great to have it signed by you!!@@cjwiley1541
I tried going on Amazon and get audio book and it said Amazon didn’t allow it because it only let me download a sample
Yeah it's just out on Kindle now but should be available this week.....it's out of my control, but everything should be in line for them to approve it.
There’s a book called the inner game of tennis that’s a great book. It’s about the psychological warfare with your opponent in 1v1 sport
When you gonna hit up some local tournaments in the area?
Your game is awesome and you r bad to the bone ..your my second favorite player only behind efren ...thanks for the video
Thanks, Efren is amazing, I appreciate being 2nd to him anyway! The Game is our Teacher
Hi CJ. First of all, I’m Filipino and I admite ur style. I love ur attitude. U speak from the heart and u r honest. Don’t worry about these guys that have nothing to say good about people including u. They are just jealous. Thanks for putting up these videos. U r helping a lot of people improve in pool and perhaps in life. To me u r an excellent teacher of the game. More power and God bless!
Cj could you post some more Vernon Elliot stories
This works great... really improved my game. Problem shot i have is a medium long slight cut shot... I tend to pull it back away from the pocket. Pull it😢 but extreme cuts I usually make them. Any tips on this kind of shot?
It's the angle of your cue on that particular shot - I'm going to show how to preset that angle more precisely in my upcoming video and the training tools I have are highly effective for developing the best stance, footwork and stroking mechanics - keep experimenting but think of the shots more as just creating angles....I'll show you more when I get to a pool table asap
love your videos!
Right On. CJ. Eyes wide opened
I agree with what you said about going through the pain and getting stronger. People would tell me about the "grind," and I could not relate seeing as I did not get tried. I may not be the best pool player right now, but I have the best physical endurance while playing because I run 5-6 miles every other day and do resistancetraining training. Even before my tournaments, I'll practice the same day up to 10 hours before playing. Even as I wait for my next match, Im practicing. I would do this so much tell my rotator cuff would get a sharp pain. At that point, I was sore for 2 weeks before I started doing targeted exercises. After that, the pain went away, and I no longer experienced pain. I just adapted.
acupuncture is good for those type injuries, I've used it for tennis elbow 3 times, sciatica and recently with a issue with my left hand ....all are back like new - You're right about physical endurance, it's another key point to reaching your max potential
I learned in my 30s all by myself!!!
Better late than never! The Game is the Teacher 🌴
Last time I saw you was at 9mile and kooledge
You don't remember me let me refresh your memory buddy browns in Chattanooga TN guess who?
Billy Ray from Cali - still got that Cadillac? (or was it a Lincoln Continental?)
@cjwiley1541 your a class act young man
So I hear you finally learned about gripping the butt tight? Raymond
Crazy you have been to Hutchison Kansas. My uncle lived there most of his life, tell he passed away recently and I would visit him often. Did not think there was a lot of pool action there with it being a small quiet town. Have you ever played any pool in my hometown of Wichita Kansas in the past?
Yes I started playing in Wichita when a teenager - JR Brown was the best player and we gambled at Burke's Steak House - Chester Burke was the owner and had a gangster reputation. There was a lot of action back in the 80$ but not much these days.
@cjwiley1541 Wow, that's so cool! Thanks!
@@cjwiley1541 You sent me on a big old pool history investigation. He's actually alive still. Asked about him and people still know JR Brown. He recently had neck surgery but still plays pool.
@@Crazywaffle5150 he moved to New Orleans a long time ago and then I lost track of him, figured he was back in Wichita - tell him "Hi" if you see him and tell him about my book, he was on the road in the 80$ so he'll know many of the hustlers in the book.
Nice Applecap. There's only one way to get to Carnegie Hall
I definitely will check out your audio book. I like that you are putting out more material. Your center to center aiming tips changed my game recently. At first it seemed like it was not working for me, however I just needed to perfect my stroke and fundamentals more. I combined this with a tip I got from the owner of my local pool hall to practice playing with my eyes closed. I went on to run out on and beat some people 150-200 Fargo points higher than me. Even without my handicap I would have one because I won more games than they did. Can't thank you enough man.
Glad to hear, bud, everything worthwhile takes some work, dedication and the willingness to change mentally And physically.....playing at the highest levels is a journey, worth every step. The Game is the Teacher 💪
Hi champ, Finding the center is easy when the ball is straight or when the pockets are lined up. But what if the ball is not straight, like when you want to cut the ball? How do you make sure it's lined up properly?
If the angle is less than Half-Ball angle you line up like it's straight in and triangular the angle you want from that position.....If the shot is Half-Ball or thinner line up Center to Edge FIRST, then triangulate the cut shot - I'm going to show another critical part to this soon, in the mean time practice standing like shots are straight in and then experiment with some angles and you'll see and feel a connection to the shot that's more intense since you are connecting the balls FIRST instead of trying to find the cut angle without the reference I'm suggesting you use.....you won't understand it until you figure it out on the pool table.
@ Got it, Coach! So if the cue ball and object ball aren’t aligned straight, like when you’re going for a cut shot, “find your center” refers to focusing on the cue ball and the contact point on the object ball (ghost ball), correct?
@@cjwiley1541ive applied this and works so fine i was finished at 2nd place at some pool tournament
I intentionally play to the level of my opponent because I only play for fun. But I have beaten plenty of former US and World champs. When I was a kid Charlie Williams would stay at my house when he was in town. We would play for hours into the night and we would go back and forth all night. Now a days the only guy who knows my real speed is myself and my home table.
Charlie is an "unusual" dude🔥
@cjwiley1541 He is pretty cool he is still a good friend even though he is done playing for real.
Can't believe people didnt figure you guys out. That's easy to do.
That's what we would want people to think......the determination must be their idea.
