I keep hearing some of Depeche Mode's riffs (Behind the Wheel, Personal Jesus, World in My Eyes etc )in some of Royksopp's songs like this one and Two-Headed Monster etc .. Is it a coincidence ?
for a start this is EDM and is in no way downtempo. its got to be over 120bpm ffs. people have endless arguments on youtube over genre and it's not because genres are stupid it's because people are stupid
EDM is defined by purpose, not tempo. EDM is meant to be played in clubs and danced to. This song is not, and therefore belongs in the "Listening" branch of Electronic Music, ELM/Electronica. The tempo appears to be around 142 BPM, so then I was wrong, it is not Downtempo. But still, it is not Techno or any other genre that is made for nightclub settings.
