  • In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial I will show you how you can create a series of mono-line style badges and crests that you can use in various different branding projects. I cover a number of topics and feature numerous useful key commands that will help make you a more efficient designer.
The font that I used in this project is called Bison and I purchased it from www.designcuts.com Go and check out their site as they always have amazing specials on great bundles of design resources.

Hi I would like to know how you set the brush stroke thickness of each letter of font words to the thickness of the Neon flex light to say 6/8mm for example in Illustrator ( I need to know this for signage design purposes ) . Ill be laying the 8mm silicone lights on an 8mm co2 engraved acrylic. I'm unable to figure the font brush stroke thickness 😅
Could you if possible let me know. I know it could be simple but im an Ai rookie 😅 thanks !

Hi there - To start with I would set up a new document in millimetres so you know everything that you're creating is at the proper scale. There is a drop down menu in the new document window where you are able to select the type of unit that you wish to use. I typically use inches as a lot of my standard print project specs are provided in inches. The next menu you want to use in in the preferences Illustrator > Preferences > Units. There you will be able to set your stroke width units to millimetres as well. Then when you are using the basic stroke panel you would be able to set the width to exactly 8mm thickness. Be careful not to use custom brushes as their appearance could create wider or thinner strokes than what you actually want.
I haven't done any work with co2 engraving but I would assume that the software you are using to drive the engraver would want the stroke to be outlined once your artwork is finalized. With your path selected go to Object > Path > Outline Stroke and then delete the original inner path. That should leave you with a path that is exactly 8mm thick. Let me know if that works!
      Cheers,
      Dave
