Custom String Art Templates - Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

- In this viewer requested video I take you through the process of creating a custom string art template that you can print out and use to guide your placement of nails in you piece of art. The use of Adobe Illustrator to plot evenly spaced points along a path should allow you to create some unique designs that would have taken a significant amount of time to plot manually.
Full disclosure - I hadn't heard of string art before the request for this tutorial was made on my channel . While my first attempt at creating a piece of string art made me happy I'm sure those of you watching will be able to take the template technique that I share and make far more interesting pieces!

I use this dotted line trick in illustrator on a lot of my projects. Turns out it works perfectly to create these string art templates too. Thanks for checking out the video.

Hi Vanessa - Thanks so much for the comment. This technique works best in Illustrator because of the built in control of the location of corner points. You can create similar dashed lines in photoshop around the border of a shape but there isn't a feature in PS to force the dashes into the corners. I did however find a PS script online created by David Jensen called "dashed_line_nice_corners" that looks like it can achieve the same result.... it will just take some more steps to get there.
