Finally a channel that doesn't fry my two brain cells and actually teaches from the extreme beginning

I learned on a Chinese abacus so maybe there is something I'm missing; but, it seems to me that the ability to overload a digit makes things much easier as you can handle carries and barrows as individual operations without trying to do two things at once.

It may be easier in the very beginning, but the extra beats are obsolete and allow multiple ways to represent certain numbers. Without the extra beats, every number can be represented in exactly one way which makes it easier to visualize these representations so that it's a smaller step to move from using the japanese abacus (soroban) to using a mental soroban which is eventually way more useful in life than learning to calculate with any tool since you don't always have an abacus (or calculator or even pen and paper) available.

Your website currently reports 'critical errors'. You might want to correct that.

I would like to get a good Teachers Abacus, I like the bigger beads but can't find a good one. Does anyone know who sells good ones?

🇺🇸I got suspended from school for using an abacus and later a slide rule on a test. Yes I can tell time on standard clock and write in cursive…(retired CEO) scary to think the present day people have no calculator between their ears🇺🇸

I want to know why do some have a different colored earth bead in the hundreds place? (hundreds, hund-thousand, hund-million, etc.) It would make sense to me if it was in the thousands place where the comma goes. Is this the same concept? Would it confuse a kid who already knows basic place value? Thank you.

Hey Tenzin, depends on your reason to learn. If your reason is to learn so you can help children, I encourage you to do so. You will see benefits as they relate to mental sharpness, improved memory, improved focus and concentration. Your calculation speed will improve, but in all honesty, you may not be able to achieve the speed that someone who learns at a much younger age (under 12-14 yrs of age) would achieve. I was much older than 25 when I learned (for the purpose of being a teacher and starting my learning center) and although it helped me with the factors I explain above, my young children can beat me hands down when it comes to their speed and accuracy. But the good news is that once they learned it during early years, this ability has stayed with them as they are getting older. Hope this helps.
