    From Ricciardo’s pov, this move would be very high risk. If he does better than Yuki then he’s just meeting the expectations. But if he does the same or worse, he’s ended all future chances of a seat on the grid. There is upside but still very risky

    • @michaelconroy5668

      I don’t think he has any future chance of a seat at the moment. He needs to get back in anywhere he can.
      Because I see the perception of him as “he’s finished”. So he can’t afford to wait for “the right seat”

      @Michael Conroy I highly disagree. He's only 33 (ish I don't know exactly) and he's come out as saying this year is a break and he's definitely wanting a seat somewhere. I think in a good seat he's a very talented driver and can ensure some great results but in a bad seat he gets frustrated so he just has to get a lucky break like a lot of drivers

      @@night7475 It’s not about his age, it’s his confidence in his ability and self-belief. It’s gone its been clear to see ever since he left Red Bull. His aim was to be a WDC that is never going to happen because he will never be in a seat where its a possibility. So his options now are the bottom three teams, Williams, Haas and Alfa Tauri and he’s salary and car performance expectations do not align with those teams. He’s done whether he knows it or not but he is. Sad facts, i loved him but can’t deny the obvious.

      @@night7475 in a good seat. He had a decent seat, known as Renault. He left that team for money, got a good seat at MClaren and was destroyed by Norris, and now the gig is up. No team with a good seat wants him, since all good teams have their driver pair. Ferrari, RB, mercedes,Aston. Those would be the seats he want, and he ain't getting them. There is no good seat left for him. All there is for him is: take any seat available, and hope it works out.

    I know NDV did well when he stepped in for Albon last season BUT I’m really surprised they put him in that AT in the first place. They always say they have ‘great juniors waiting’ but didn’t put one in the car. Just felt like they run with the hype of NDV for press and it hasn’t paid off.
    It’s a shame they haven’t given Liam Lawson a chance. IMO he’s a brilliant driver and has turned his hand to so many series so I feel like he’s a great safe option. Just my opinion though 😅

    • @ClayandPapyrus
      @ClayandPapyrus Рік тому +18

      Last year was the one year they didn't have great juniors in waiting. Hauger didn't do as good as expected last year, Lawson and Daruvala didn't impress, and one of the juniors that was expected to go to AlphaTauri dropped the hard-r and ended his career. They initially wanted to sign Herta for 2023, but the FIA didn't allow that, but once Nyck stepped in for Albon they likely saw a good alternative to Herta and signed him. I think it wasn't about hype and more so about practicality and the fact Nyck was in the right place at the right time.

    Tommo's best point is to do with Nyck's age. He's an experienced racing driver you'd have to consider him like a Nico Hulkenberg for motorsport as a whole and then to come in and not perform here against Yuki is not enough really since he's expected to be a super solid established name to help Yuki refine against.

      It's never unfair though, just lining up once on that F1 grid can make someone a career and I'm sure Nyck will be annoyed if he loses it but with his talent and the prestige that comes from even just half a season at the top he will live pretty nicely in the Motorsport world now. I think Felipe Drugovich is a incredible rookie which deserves to be in F1. He may not have have the one-lap pace that other young drivers have, but he compensates in how well he can adapt to the racecar that he is given and his great consistency.
    He’s finished first in the Formula E young driver test, despite him acknowledging that he never been in that type of car before. And he did a really decent job in the Bahrain testing.
    For a weak car such as the AlphaTauri he would be better than the F2 drivers, Lawson or Ricciardo. Felipe could be a feasible choice until they sort out their issues and get back into the midfield. He should get at least a chance, he earned it.

      @@Heineck19 A domination in F2 is hard to gauge. If the field is bad or your rivals are often unlucky you can build a big gap.
      Russel had a similar endscore (cca 260 after sprint point correction) in less races. He had a smaller gap behind him, though, but he won over Norris, Albon and De Vries. We can only kindof gauge Sargent from the 2022 F2 field in terms of F1 performance and he doesnt seem to be an outstanding talent. So I would not rush with putting Felipe on a piedestal. Can be good but I would not put any money on it.

    I will say one thing that I have yet to be mentioned in these De Vries videos, Is the fact that most all his testing and his race result was done in Merc machinery. It is a pretty interesting aspect of Nyck's seeming downfall that is also a factor in Ricciardo's fall from grace as well. Really makes you wonder how big of a difference there is to those engines and how they impact the overall performance envelope of the car as a whole.

    • @frankhuurman3955
      @frankhuurman3955 Рік тому +2

      Interesting point indeed, especially since Danny Ric was performing pretty well when switching from the Renault powered RB's to the Renault powered Renault team itself. It's only when he switched to the Mclaren team with a merc engine that he was struggling.
      Maybe the engines themselves play a big part in being comfortable in the car as well

    • @jinsory5582
      @jinsory5582 Рік тому +1

      That was really something I realized ahead of time too. When they signed him with AT, all I thought was "Oh! That's cool! But I thought that he'd for sure get a Williams seat with Albon...". I feel like if he had done so that he'd fit better with the car and would be more confident. But then again, would the difference truly be large enough between 0 points and any points in those two cars? That is a curious thing to ask because in my opinion he would've at least been in the points in at least one race had he been in a Williams instead of an AT that's only become worse.
      Edit: Someone mentioned before that things would've been better if Logan Sargeant got another year simmering in F2, and NDV in Williams. I massively agree.

    For me:
    - It’s Redbull and they are not against making the mid season changes (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing)
    - They brought in De Vries instead of a rookie of their own because they didn’t expect him to be driving like one, they thought they’d get a safe pair of hands, slower maybe but more consistent than Tsnuoda
    - Tsnuoda has gotten very consistent, so just actually having a rookie driver in the team would be more palatable
    I would feel very sorry for De Vries to have had this chance and lost it so quickly when Latifi basically bought what should’ve been his Williams seat and kept it for 3 years. But he aimed high, picked a demanding team and hasn’t been delivering. Let Lawson drive after the summer break and then compare

    I agree that Daniel is probably the best bet for a mid season swap. It gives Red Bull a reliable barometer to judge Yuki & his performances to see whether he can be the next Max Verstappen & potentially replace Checo at Red Bull in the long term and it also gives Daniel a chance to prove he’s still got it & improve his stock in the driver market so that maybe he can get something like a Mercedes seat if Lewis retires after this season. Plus having Daniel just as a stop gap leaves room for those prospects like Iwasa or Lawson to take the AlphaTauri seats next year.
    I wouldn’t rule out Alex Palou entirely either though. He definitely seems to want out of Chip Ganassi Racing & an F1 seat would be a very tantalizing way out for him. Although if he’s looking likely to be able to get a second IndyCar title, I’m not sure what he’d do…
