I have my Grandfather's Marlin lever action rifle. I'm not a hunter and I've never fired it, but, it's nice to own something that my Grandfather used for decades while on his hunting trips. My Grandfather was born in 1895, he was a WWI veteran.
I think it's fantastic that Ruger has Marlin now I'm bringing quality back to the lever gun. That said I'm a die-hard blued steel and walnut stock fan, that's what I grew up with and that's what I prefer.
Love to see Ruger breathing new life into the Marlin lever-action centerfires. The Marlin 1895 has a notable presence in the movie Wind River; carried by a predator control officer in Wyoming.
Was a decent movie with an anti 2nd Amendment leading actor. Only in Holy-Weird, could a chump like him shoot such a caliber from a lever gun to emulate a true Snipers rifle. The real 45-70 is about repeated brute power up close and that's where this Ruger updated Marlin will shine; in real Ville!
I'm a "BIG" time Ruger fan! I have owned several Ruger's & still own Ruger revolvers! Their the best value for your dollar! Glad to see they've taken over the Marlin gun market! I'm sure they'll continue to make great product's!

Probably won't happen but I would love to have one of these in .41 mag as a companion for my Ruger Blackhawk in that caliber. Henry makes one in .41 mag and it seems to do pretty well for itself but I really prefer the side loading over the tube mag loading. Marlin used to make a .41 version but went all .44 mag at one point. Why the .41 mag? Because it is the most powerful revolver I can shoot well and it would be good to do the Old West thing with 1 round for both pistol and rifle. The .44-40 was a great combo back in its day and a .41 mag version would be too.
@@edb3877 I totally agree with you. I have a Ruger Red Hawk in 41mag. It's the one gun that will never be sold or traded. I've got a case of Rem 41mag Sp ammo & several 20ct boxes of various brands & grains. Been waiting to get my hands on a Henry or Marlin in 41mag to match.
@@carlosdaniels9515 The Redhawk is a sweet gun and I would be happy to own one, for sure. Sounds as if you have a real good ammo supply to go with your RH, which is good. I don't buy factory ammo for my BH because I reload all my own ammo. I quit reloading 9 mm when it got so cheap that it cost me more to reload than it did to buy it. At one point there, I was buying 50 round boxes of 9 mm with aluminum cases for less than $10. That was before the most recent ammo shortage came along. But I do have plenty of reloading components for my S&W Model 19 .357 mag, plenty of once-fired .38-SPL cases that a good friend gave me from his training classes, lots of new Star Line cases in both .357 and .41, and some .45-acp cases. The .38-SPL cases I got from my friend are all nickel plated and load / eject very easily. I cast my own hard lead 150 grain SWC bullets, which are good for target ammo at 850-900 fps or to 1,000 fps for self defense. Agree that having a rifle in .41 mag would be sweet. That would make a real nice deer rifle in heavy brush where the shots are 50-60 yards or less. Not that the .41 mag isn't accurate enough for longer range shots, because it is, but it's nice to be packing as much energy as possible when it arrives on target. I slapped myself a number of times for not buying a Marlin lever gun in .41 mag when they were available. By the time I was ready to buy, they had quit making them and it was really hard to find one at a reasonable price. That was a classic case of wouldda, couldda, shouldda! 🤕
I don't know exactly why but Henry's always looked un-appealing to me I don't know why but they just rub me the wrong way it has to be the perportons or something it's just not a marlin i Don know what else to say
I understand....they are different but I have owned both....a pre-Remington Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. and now a Henry Big Boy 357....looks aside the Henry is the superior firearm and although a Henry is not inexpensive it appears they will be priced below the new Marlin/Rugers by a considerable margin. My LGS had the same rifle featured in this video last week for $1300....$400 more expensive than any Henry he had for sale.

Just picked up mine today and is truly a beautiful rifle. Videos and pictures don’t do it justice. Fit and finish was exceptionally done by Ruger. This coming from a gun enthusiast who owns and has fired many. Well done review sir.
I love mine, the only thing is that the trigger isn't as good as my Henry's. Ranger Point Precision and Wild West guns have very good after market trigger's. But being both a Ruger and Henry fanboy does make it tough to decide, oh well just have to buy both. Whoopi
Yes but you have to compare the Ruger Marlin trigger to that of other Marlins not another brand with an entirely different design. It is functionally identical to the Marlin pre-sale to Remington trigger and historically the Marlin lever action triggers have not been great triggers! Winchester lever guns did not have fantastic triggers either! You can always A-B features from one company and another and come up with pro's and con's but depending on what you want to do with a rifle a pro can become a con and vise versa. Putting a 1lbs. trigger on a 45-70 lever gun would be stupid but there are idiots that think that is the way to go. Sure less creep and over travel would be nice and a breaking point that is like glass but often a total redesign is required. Too much is made of trigger pull on hunting rifles. If you can not shoot a hunting rifle accurately enough to kill game at the ranges of that rifle and cartridge with a stock trigger you need to practice more! If a rifle and ammo combination is capable of shooting 1/2 to 1/4 MOA out of the box it will do it with a factory trigger. You will never take a 2 MOA rifle and shrink it's group size with a custom trigger! Look at all the fantastic accomplishments of military snipers who historically until very recently all had terrible 2 stage heavy gritty triggers. Look at all the fine shooting done in shooting sports that have trigger weight limits! Look at all the game killed with Winchester and Marlin lever guns in the last 100++ years. Winchester lever guns do not have great trigger pulls either. Up until recently Henry's cost 2X as much or more than stock Marlin. A lot of humans have been killed with average triggers, a lot of animals have been killed with very average triggers and until you got into the 1990's and beyond a lot of competitions had been won with mostly stock slightly reworked factory trigger's. 1990's and beyond is when you really started to see triggers really get too much attention. Funny how so many companies popped up to serve the market that had never been around before! Takes no skill to change out most triggers probably why it is the most common mod!
I am in a non-firearm industry but I can confirm that we can provide stainless steel for far cheaper than treated or coated carbon steel. The raw material cost difference is far less than the cost of shipping, handling, disposal and application of the chemicals or paints.

I'm not playing that game. Update: So instead I bought a Henry steel receiver 45-70 with an 18 inch barrel and a beautiful walnut stock for $850. I’m mounting a midrange scope.
Yeah its horse shit they're going for 2500 on grab a gun and people are buying them... they were 1000 dollars all day long when remington was making them still made I didn't buy one when I could oh well

Excellent 👍. I'm very happy to see Marlon back as I grew up with Marlon my first rifle was a 39a gold then at 336A 30 30. I've never really cared for stainless myself but I do like this new SBL and I really like the site system. I'm hoping they follow this trend with the future rifles I'd love to see a long octagon cowboy 45-70 with a Tang sight for long range planking and fun. Hoping the 336 and the 94 both have aperture sites. Can't wait to see you do some accuracy testing on this rifle be nice to see a contrast between an older micro group versus the new Ruger Hammer forged barrel. Thank you I'll be waiting for your next video on this rifle and any others that come out. 👍

Great video thanks for sharing. Back here in Australia pre Port Arthur massacre I owned a Winny 94 model .30-30 I absolutely loved that gun and I love this one as well. Love this gun layout even the stainless, wood work and even the sights.
Glad to see Ruger making these and doing a good job. I hope later they come out with a guide gun with a full-length mag tube, blued, regular level loop and without the picitinnay rail and muzzle threads. Some of us don't want all of that stuff.
Very nice..👍👍I have the tsbl..trapper skinner big lever 16 inch barrel..I love it,glad I got it when I did,I could probably double my money, named Lucille..my go to gun for things that go bump in the night..set up with a light holds 22 rounds in the sling and 10 on the butt stock...bear loads ofcourse..
in my eyes a marlin rifle is the best gun you can own....its construction is by far the best... when you hold it and fire it you know you have something special ... to bad mine got stolen when i was younger... now i cant afford another...had a lever action 22 and a 30/30. maybe someday ill have another.... if you want a gun thats worth your time and money its a marlin
Nice start with lever guns for Ruger, in the future I'd like to see Marlin bring these back in .357 and .44, as well as bring the great old 336 in .30-30 again too! I know there's damn near millions of 336's out there, but they're being held onto and not a lot hit the used market anymore! I love my golden 39 too, but those are a bit of a jewel to make and I don't expect to see those back in production especially since Henry and Rossi have excellent lever .22's on the market a lot cheaper.
Love to see just a plain classic 1895 GS Guide Gun with an 18.5" tube in stainless and blued for that matter. I'd like to have one of each. Very nice review and it looks like Ruger will hit a home run with the excellent quality with this new venture.
Only one small problem. Like all Rugers which I love are just too expensive for an average hunter to afford. They are almost twice the price of marlins just a few years ago.

I more than doubled my money on my Remlin TSBL in less then 4 years. Between SBL/TSBL and 7600s, tough to say which used market was more ridiculous over the past year.

I have had good results with the 6.5 PRC on deer. Light recoil and quite accurate in a Montana rifle. Sadly, out of business.
i like the old style buck horn sights in the rear besides that i really like the looks of them

Ruger is a quality manufacturer. I only wish that rear ghost ring sight had some wings on the sides to protect it from getting broken off.

Glad to see Ruger making these and doing a good job. I hope later they come out with a guide gun with a full-length mag tube, blued, regular level loop and without the picitinnay rail and muzzle threads. Some of us don't want all of that stuff.
If anyone can do a deep blue these days, it's Ruger... hope they do some classics!
Very nice..👍👍I have the tsbl..trapper skinner big lever 16 inch barrel..I love it,glad I got it when I did,I could probably double my money, named Lucille..my go to gun for things that go bump in the night..set up with a light holds 22 rounds in the sling and 10 on the butt stock...bear loads ofcourse..
in my eyes a marlin rifle is the best gun you can own....its construction is by far the best... when you hold it and fire it you know you have something special ... to bad mine got stolen when i was younger... now i cant afford another...had a lever action 22 and a 30/30. maybe someday ill have another.... if you want a gun thats worth your time and money its a marlin

Nice start with lever guns for Ruger, in the future I'd like to see Marlin bring these back in .357 and .44, as well as bring the great old 336 in .30-30 again too! I know there's damn near millions of 336's out there, but they're being held onto and not a lot hit the used market anymore! I love my golden 39 too, but those are a bit of a jewel to make and I don't expect to see those back in production especially since Henry and Rossi have excellent lever .22's on the market a lot cheaper.
I hope ruger will do the Marlin justice!

Love to see just a plain classic 1895 GS Guide Gun with an 18.5" tube in stainless and blued for that matter. I'd like to have one of each. Very nice review and it looks like Ruger will hit a home run with the excellent quality with this new venture.

Only one small problem. Like all Rugers which I love are just too expensive for an average hunter to afford. They are almost twice the price of marlins just a few years ago.

I more than doubled my money on my Remlin TSBL in less then 4 years. Between SBL/TSBL and 7600s, tough to say which used market was more ridiculous over the past year.

They used to make Marlin rifles in North Haven,Connecticut and closed the factory when Ruger bought them. Sad for it put a lot of skilled gun makers out of a job.
