- Why do we celebrate Christmas? Why is Christmas important? Catholic speaker Ken Yasinski offers a Christmas message reflecting on the birth of Jesus and it’s meaning in our life.
What Is Christmas? On December 25 people around the world pause to celebrate. We buy gifts, gather as family, and take holidays. But why is Christmas important? What is Christmas about? Do we celebrate Christmas because of Santa Claus, reindeer and a flying sleigh? That fact is 2000 years ago Jesus was born in a manger. But that begs the question, why is that so good? Why is the birth of Jesus worth celebrating?
To understand the importance of Christmas, and to experience the true joy and meaning of this time, we have to understand the sadness of sin. The good news, without the bad news is no news at all. The bad news is humanity is under the power of sin. Sin brings death, and heaven is shut out from us.
Is it really that bad?
“St. Augustine, in a Christmas message said:
Wake up, O human being! For it was for you that God was made man. Rise up and realize it was all for you. Eternal death would have awaited you had He not been born in time. Never would you be freed from your sinful flesh had He not taken to Himself the likeness of sinful flesh. Everlasting would be your misery had He not performed this act of mercy. You would not have come to life again had He not come to die your death. You would have perished had He not come”.
Why Is Christmas Important? What is the good news about Christmas? What is the message? The good news about Christmas is that God initiated a search and rescue mission. He sent his son to save us from sin, to save us for sonship.
In a Christmas message St. John Kronstadt wrote:
And the Word became flesh!…in order to make us earthly beings into heavenly ones, in order to make sinners into saints; in order to raise us up from corruption into incorruption, from earth to heaven; from enslavement to sin and the devil - into the glorious freedom of children of God; from death - into immortality, in order to make us sons of God and to seat us together with Him upon the Throne as His royal children. O, boundless compassion of God! O, inexpressible wisdom of God! O, great wonder, astounding not only the human mind, but the angelic mind as well!”
Why do we celebrate Christmas? To rejoice in the fact that God became one of us, in His son Jesus Christ, to save us from the domino of darkness and transfer us to the kingdom of his beloved son, to save from sin, to save us for sonship, to abolish death to bring us eternal life.
Why celebrate Christmas? Because it is right and just! Recalling the merciful act of God in the incarnation of his Son, glorifies God. This is the first reason to celebrate Christmas. It is not about us, but what God has don for us. The importance of Christmas rest in the fact that God sent us son to atone for our sin and restore our love love relationship with him, which is mean to last forever!
Why celebrate Christmas? It also reaffirms our faith. There are many opposing message to the true meaning of Christmas. Taking time to celebrate the truth of this time deeps our personal conviction about the nativity of Jesus.
Why do people celebrate Christmas? First and foremost, to rejoice in the fact that 2000 years, Jesus was born, Lord at thy brith.

AMEN! All praise and glory to you Lord Jesus Christ! Without God and Jesus , I am nothing!
I love it: "Why do we have celebrations in life?
It's because something good or wonderful has happened,
and we want to rejoice in it.
We want to recall it."
Yes. You said all the right reasons why we should celebrate THE BIRTH OF THE MESSIAH. However you didn't say why it is celebrated on the day of birth of a pagan god. Based on bible description, the birth of the Messiah was CLEARLY NOT IN DECEMBER.
Happy Evardo thanks for the comment. Regarding the pagan celebration you referenced - there is no historical evidence that this was celebrated until 354 AD (well after the feast day of Christmas being established).
Here is a video that goes into this more in-depth.

But in the Bible stated that the shepherds are with their sheep outside so that's proof that Jesus wasn't born in December. Also the angels came and talk to the shepherd to go see the Messiah.
"Happy Birthday 2018 Jesus Christ and merry merry Christmas to each one of us in the whole world" my greetings extend to all "human" life forms. #Emmanuel#🙏
fun-with-nickline Merry Christmas. 😀

This is an excellent video. Will be referring students to it. I love how you framed it correctly as the rescue mission, the solution to the horror of sin.

Wouldn't Christmas be in the bible?
It is. In the nativity of Jesus
Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones in John 4:23, not Catholics who worship Santa Claus.
Great message! Thanks for sharing..God bless you
Marilou Teves Antonio your welcome!
Thank you so much for reminding me the true essence of Christmas.. May God continue to inspire and bless you..
Good message, but it would be nice to see more diversity in this.
So was jesus born in december 25th?
Nope, the sun god tamuz was. This is a pagan holiday that was celebrated in the time of Nimrod that was meshed into the Church when Constantine took over the Roman empire. Christians should not be celebrating Christmas.
@@veronicawilliams3349 Would you please tell me from which source you got your information from?
The Feast Of The Nativity (now called Christmas)was started by the Church at around year 300.
They wanted to celebrate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ Our Saviour and King.
They counted down the weeks and months from when Mary got the Announcement from the Ark Angel Gabriel that she was chosen by Almighty God Our Heavenly Father to bring His Only Begotten Son into the world.
They ended up with the date of 25th December.
Saturnia had not been invented.
Also Sol Invicta had not been started then.
Some people say that in fact the pagans took the ideas for their pagan festivals from the Christians who were celebrating The Feast Of The Nativity/Christmas.
Jesus was born on a warm month of October not December 25th a cold night
@@veronicawilliams3349 Jehovah's Witnesses are the true Christians
Can we eat dates on Christmas lol
umm.. But Jesus is not a god or son of god. right?
WRONG!!!! WRONG!!!! WRONG!!!! Let me say it one more time.WRONG!!!!
Jesus Christ Our Saviour and King IS The Son Of God and Believeing in ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT is so very, very, VERY WRONG!!!!
@@darrenplumpton8900 Son of God because..?
God promised through the prophets to send a Saviour... with the birth of His Son Jesus, He fulfilled His promise. God became man because He loved the world so much that He gave His Son to teach us Love and to love others and Jesus sacrificed His life so that we may have eternal life...
where in the bible write to cut a tree ad hang at your home? thnx
Hama KP , it doesn’t. But where in the bible does it say everything we should believe as Christians is in the bible?
Jeremiah 10 speaks about cutting a tree, custom of pagans
Great video!
Stephanie L thank you.
Jesus Christ has nothing to do with Christmas
clara how did you come to that conclusion?
Jesus Christ has all to do with Christmas. It is for Him and His glory. Forever. Your opinion or feelings do not change the fact that He was born to save you, me, everyone on Earth from sin. He who hears His word is blessed..
@@stephanieGallantvlogs Christmas is a pagan tradition it has nothing to do with Jesus. In the Bible when Jesus was born Angels came down and talked to the shepherds to go see the Messiah and that's proof that that Jesus was never born in December cuz shepherds never take their sheeps out into the field during winter time, and that not my opinion it's stated in the Bible.
It's a abomination
To rejoice in the birth of the GOD that came to save you from sin? No it is not an abomination. At all.
It does not have a importance
Santa would would kidnap the bad children and eat them
It's not GOOD. Christmas is Pagan
Christmas is a day we as Christians rejoice in the birth of our savior. Open your eyes and ears to hear the Lord.. Open your heart most of all.. He came for you, can you not accept that?
Stephanie L yeah jesus is our saviour. But was he really born in dec 25th?
@@hq6559 No, Jesus is a Pisces...he was born in March
@@hollywoodhoroscopes Dealing with the zodiac signs is a whole other religion in greece. Christianity is different. So yes Jesus was born on December 25. You're getting your religions mixed up.
