Thank you so much for sharing this with us and the world. We always watch your videos about Zimbabwe. You may not realise this but they are also important resource for geography lessons for school learners, especially here in the UK 🇬🇧 We're tired of the negative and demonisation of countries like Zimbabwe and its peoples. This humanises. Every country on earth has its own problems. We've had serious economic, social and political problems here in the UK in recent years, we expect things to get worse, but you'd never hear about them. It's important to showcase and celebrate the good and positive of African countries, especially of countries and peoples who have historically and constantly been demonised internationally like the people of Zimbabwe. Thank you for sharing the love .
Wow, well said Ousman! Most times it's all negative stories being peddled out. Despite the economic conditions, there's a lot of positives in Zimbabwe. Thank you for having your eyes open to the truth.
Most people who were privileged in zimbabwe. Went to the UK because of access to privilege , faced a lil racism, then all of a sudden they think Zimbabwe is rosy. That's the problem with some diasporians. They think it's all okay for the majority to live in the stone age because it's their way of life. Yet they won't last a year in zimbabwe. Especially without the pedestal of privilege. Fucking nonsense
The prices are pretty extreme. When I left 78 dollars would probably have bought the same things 5-10x. If you want to step outside your comfort zone you could try boerewors. Biltong is worth a try but it should be dry in Zim. We used to have excellent chicken, dry cured bacon and steak. Now, I have no idea. I miss Zimbabwean branflakes which seem so much better to me than the Western cardboard flavoured ones. :)
The vienna sausages of old Zimbabwe were sooo tasty, the stuff they sell now is repugnant, the bacon was still good, Colcom still cure it nicely. The chicken hmnnnnnn..
Hie there Lea, echoes from Durban, am Zimbabwean, you make us proud makoti, i will definitely share your vlogs with my wife, i am apparently using her phone we will spread the word, stay safe Antony.
Its been 12 years since I left Zim. This kind of remind me what its like back there. Like the part you get to show us Bitong, as we call it Chimukuyu. This rad, thanks!
Thank you for your videos, I've been trying to find out how things are back at home and this is a well detailed video with all the info I've been looking for.
Thanks for sharing Zim shopping is the best.I like that they now sell those nyevhe and different milled grains and all. This SPAR is loaded. When I go Zim am gonna have fun! Thanks I miss home no matter how bad things hv been.Zim remains treasure. May God revive the country in all systems.
Great video indeed I usually shop at Bridge Spar as well and definitely, retail prices have been pretty steep especially with the conversion rate to USD!
I just watched 20 minutes of someone shopping...and i ENJOYED IT!!! Waita hako Lea.Please posta mamwe mavideo eZimbabwe (Thank u Lea,Please post more videos of Zimbabwe)
Hey like your Videos so exciting making us all home sick..coming to bulawayo and vicfalls this year 2022..keep it up Sweetie !! ,from the good old USA.
The prices don't make sense cause salaries in tht country are like 150 to 250 USD a month, eg for teachers and other Government employees, less than a packet of Matemba....maybe am missing something
She lives there, she moved with her husband who is Zimbabwean. Also you should check out her newer videos they show even more greatness and talent of zimbabwer
Really ... People think that's expensive? I invite you people to Venezuela.... Even when we drop Wines prices to close to 5$ that yogurt cost you 8$ sausage maybe 6$, butter 8$ bread loaf 🍞 2.5 or 3$ apple 🍎 12$xkg so it's similar but way more expensive here... Plus 16% tax... Some foods are extent of Tax but most other doesn't. Thanks Lea
Under the Biden Administration, the US will see a price hike very similar to this if they continue to print trash dollars and dump it into the economy. Just my thoughts 💭
Gaya, wobva wabowa futi kuti zvinhu zvadhura. Lea, kanyira imbwa iyo sadza nemukaka, food and drink. Solved two problems at once and at a cheaper price.
I guess vegetables are cheaper in local markets than in Supermarkets but you right groceries are expensive although its all worth it because the quality is good😋😍😌
Try veggie markets for fruit and veg. Porridge Oats is great alternative to ceravita which is probably more expensive, and oats are nutritious too 😉. Meat is probably cheaper at the butchers.
I cant even look at polony anymore lol. We used to get it as part of our school packed lunch everyday growing up in Harare, and by 7th grade, i couldn't stand it anymore so would trade other kids for their lunches! For most kids in my school it was a luxury, so i often traded for good things! But other times, id swap with kids who could only afford to bring mambaira (sweet potato) every day. It's been 21 years, and i still dont think i could face it if i went back to zim lol.
Thanks so much for sharing, just loved seeing things back home - but the prices were unbelievable. One other thing next time please dont have the music so loud :-)
And also please we are yet to see you visit Victoria Fall and Kariba, Nyanga, Great Zimbabwe etc to show the world how wonderful and beautiful Zimbabwe is thank you
thembani thwala Victoria falls unfortunately I’ve visited several times before I started my channel but hopefully one day will go again! Nyanga is coming this week 😁
Super video. Thanks! It would be great if your voice would be louder OR the music less loud. In order to understand what you are saying one has to turn up the volume and when the music is playing one has to turn down the sound. It’s not fun, if one has to do that all the time.
Just look at things before I travel after lockdown...now now ,this whole payment issue with difference currencies ,don't they just take bank cards ? I would definitely struggle keeping up
I am new to your channel and I am absolutely loving your videos! Please continue posting! I was last in Zimbabwe 4 years ago......so I enjoy catching up. Your videos are awesome 👌
Nice content, oly thing I'd wish for is maybe more even sound volume when switching between music and talk, since the music seems way louder than you're recording your talk. Keep up the good work! :-)
No ZESA but they should install solar powered traffic lights and more solar powered street lights . More road signage . And pedestrian side walks should be adopted.
Hi Lea, it was fun to watch you going round the shop that I also frequent the most! You probably don't want to know that that particular shop has the Best doughnuts in Harare.... You know, the US embassy used to have a grocery shop, anyone with a US passport could shop there. I wonder if that's still operational...? Might be a way for you to find some things you miss from home. Keep well, Lea, thanks for making these videos, I really enjoy watching them. Cheers, Tracy
Who lied to you that Zim imports everything? In terms of food, 80% is locally produced the rest is imported. Don't believe everything you see on cnn, BBC, fox news etc.
Ah I see! I think when you pay in USD (or with an international card like I did) they do some “discount” so it makes your goods look cheaper 2,763.60 but then the added price
@@LeawithoutBorders Hi again. It looks like you were charged about 30 USD for using your card. You are in Zim for a long haul. I would ask them about that. I am in the west cost, that looks like a price I would pay.
Mags M the way they do it on the receipt is funny - but they use the “bank rate” of the day. That day it happened to be about 85 - it’s not per se charging extra for using the card it’s actually the same price as if I’d pay in usd cash as well. They just do something on the system to adjust the pricing for international payments. I definitely spent less $ weekly on grocery living in the US!
Usd, RTGS(local swipe cards), & mobile money (Ecocash) . Bond notes are rarely used because 120 = $1 usd and the currency is usually in 5’s and 20’s (bond notes)
