I love how Chester starts with his clean voice and abruptly yells "STAY AWAY FROM ME"! That got my angsty teenager brain so hooked on this band!
I'm in my mid-twenties right now, and that angsty teenager is still as strong as ever - did that teen ever grow up for you?
@@Karishma_Unspecified haha, not really.
@@MattSilvermanMusic Oh well. It was worth asking :)
@@Karishma_Unspecified I'll never forget my early teens.
I was bullied a lot. On breaks I often ran to toilet to escape, listening to this. One day they caught me and I just shrieked (you can't call it shout when you're 13) and just blew all the rage. I screamed so loud, my vocal chords were damaged.
Worth it all the way, 'cause the bullies left me alone for a week.
Never stopped listening to LP thanks to this memory.
@@Karishma_Unspecified I'm 47 and have lived through holding my lover's hand as she died in the hospital, nearly dying myself from appendicitis, numerous jobs before I found my career, watching everyone I ever cared for get old, sick and then die. Taking care of my mother for 12 years after her stroke, then watching her die slowly, holding her hand as I watched her exhale shallowly for the last time. Accidentally burning my house down and losing virtually everything, then suffering a heart attack 6 months ago as a result of the covid shot. There comes a point where the angsty teen rage burns out and you're left at a crossroads, hold onto that rage and anger that fueled so many years of your life, or channel it and stop being angry and accept that the same day you are having the worst experience of your life, there is a beautiful sunset, flowers still bloom, and that sweet summer breeze still blows. Petty arguments you had that seemed so important at the time in retrospect were so pointless. That fire doesn't go out, but it can help you survive a world trying to grind you down and kill you. As I get older I understand the value of stillness and solitude, sitting quietly watching the sunrise. I remember being younger and so angry and filled with rage and indirect purpose, but time, loss and grief are a fire that tempers that steel in your core, and hopefully it makes you stronger, instead of breaking.
Still love Linkin Park...amazing, emotional sound.

The first song that got me hooked on this band at age 13, 13 years ago almost. RIP Chester.
Chester's screaming on the verses followed by the aggresive guitar riff and the Chorus is what gets you hooked on that Track, the heavy guitar sounds really good and Chester vocals are great on the Chorus.
Easely one of the best tracks on Meteora.
It's really sad that we lost one of the biggest talents of the 21st century so early, Chester deserved so much better than suffering his whole life from depression.
Even though Chester is gone, i think that Linkin Park will still carry on and continue as a 5 piece band, i don't even think that Chester would even want them to stop making music as Linkin Park. They even said on their letter to Chester that their love for music is inextinguishable, even though they still don't even if they still want go on without Chester.
The problem with continuing without Chester is that they wouldn't be able to make heavy music anymore, unless Mike learns how to scream and growl. Considering that Mike is a Baritone vocalist, it would be naturally easier for him to learn to growl and scream than a Tenor like Chester, many Metal vocalist are Baritone, the most popular Baritone vocalist is Corey Taylor.
No matter what Linkin Park might do in the future, i will still support them, because they deserve it.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 moment
On the one hand, I have to thank the Kiwami 2 Silly Mod for reminding me that this absolute banger exists. But on the other, I have to forsake the Kiwami 2 Silly Mod for making it so that every time I hear this song I think of Kiryu turning into Maxwell the cat, or doing the thug shaker over a decapitated thug's body.
that breaking sound in the beginning is actually mike destroying their old CD burner which gave them so much trouble during the making of Meteora.

@@murilloorlando excuse me?! You prefer what?! Meteora is by far the best LP album. Get the Frick outta Here and "dont stay".
Malcolm_mal boi all their albums are good. Meteora is the best, but don’t hate on people.
@@murilloorlando - Personally, I still rate Hybrid Theory the highest. My issue with The Hunting Party is that it came out way too late. If it had followed Hybrid Theory immediately, I'd have put it joint 1st place. But it came out at a time when Linkin Park were in their twilight years. Chester's voice wasn't even half of what it used to be. Overall, their effort sounded tame and tired more than anything. The youthful energy their 1st album had was gone(not their fault, mind you). It wasn't as good as it could have been if it was made 12 years earlier in their career.

I realize now that this song is about a battle inside your own head. When you realize you are your own worst enemy and it's like there's someone else in your head ruining your life. When Chester talks about you being the worst part of me he's talking about his subconscious.
Listen to hybrid theory(original band name btw) you can hear Chester's pain. He's been yelling for help for decades and we just danced and didn't listen. We have to do better.
@@anthonyzullo True, we didn't realize what was going on. But in dancing we did something important for him: the songs he wrote mattered to us collectively, and I believe that gave him the push (at least partially) that he needed to keep fighting to stay here as long as he did. I'm sure that there were some days when he stayed for the fans. We saw a band making music for fame and money, but in hindsight it was most likely a lifeline for him, not to mention the other people who were going through the same thing.
@@moniquethomas4966 I work really hard for others. Train dogs for disabled kids and vet for close to penny's, and am thr most reliable man you'll meet. Mentor kids daily.
But bone of them know its because I have done such horrible things to others when I was younger that doing good for others is how I need to give back to buy my way into heaven even though it'll never happen but I care not. The worst of us can do the most if we surrender and realize we've done so bad that anything is worth a shot.
and when your a furry your worst enemy is the world because you hate it for 0 reason
@@anthonyzullo It doesn't work like "buying your way in". You're either a good person or not, it's not a transaction. The you that is now is the one that matters, and that changes all the time. It sounds like you learned your lessons, so stop accounting your karma and enjoy doing good

I love the park ❤
One mantra,
"Don't stay."
Linkin Park really has a way with making songs that deal with real life situations and human relations. This song pretty much summarized my emotions back when I made big mistakes and hurt a friend of mine. At times, we would argue real badly, and then afterwards, the type of emotion that the song talks about described how I felt forwards her. Things are kind of back to normal now, but I'll remember these types of emotions that I went through for a long time. Other than that, this song was one of my favorites.
We all make mistakes. We can only move on. At least it's good now. I'm happy you guys worked things out.
Thanks. Lately, I've been doing everything that I can to rebuild what I destroyed, and I'm not exactly sure how she now views me, but I just hope that I'm still somewhere in her heart.
yeah I agree that they can make great songs out of pretty dark subjects, for example: this song I think is about split personality/anxiety, and forgotten (the line “from bottom to top I stop” is like “hey even if you make it in life you’ll be forgotten”)
Linkin Park made the brilliant decision to focus on the darker _emotions_ people feel rather than specific situations that caused them. It works so much better because they knew that not everyone can relate to a situation, but people can relate to difficult emotions regardless of what causes them
Meteora is fucking amazing!

This band touched many lives. My parents are Romanian born and raised and my mom was kinda strict on the music I could listen to as a skeptical foreigner. One day when I was twelve and quite naive someone put Hybrid Theory in my hands. It was my first exposure to alternative rock. I was immediately hooked when I first heard Papercut. I saw them during their first Meteora tour when I was sixteen and I have the LP 9.49 Zeta keychain from growing up in a susburb of Fort Lauderdale FL and buying it at the show. I love their music and I love the members as individuals. I consider them brave and a type of role model. While Disney stars got racy our LP band stayed true to themselves thru growth and joy and immeasurable pain. I consider myself bonded to them that way. I love them.
