You could play the melodies (at least at times) a 3rd above or below within the same scale. So when the melody says C, you play Ek and when it says Ek, you play G and so forth. The thirds can be any kind of third (min, maj, k) and you still get the texture. I have shown it in a video somewhere.
I recall trying that on ney with confusing results. If normal segah tetrachord is Bk C D Ek, that would have D Ek F> G which sounds like segah but if you go to final segah not from above (C->Bk) normally that interval is 160cent, whereas (Ek->D) is 140 cent. These are the intervals of mokhalef segah. If you transpose mohkalef up a third like this it's "scale" will be "normal" segah scale. If the koron were tuned as quartertone (50 cent) they would be identical. To me it demonstrates that mokhalef-segah en segah are almost the same (except for that 20 cent difference in tuning) even though they sound contrasting. With F# instead of F> you get chahargah this way, showing in yet another way how those are related.

Sir, as someone who've been playing ney for more than a decade and studied music in Iran, it's so interesting to see someone who origins certainly not from an immediate neibourin states of Iran and has gone so far into Persian music. I'm really obsessed with the whyness of this endevour and pursuit of Persian music which is so uncommon for foreigners especially from far West. I appreciate what you are doing and have done and got a question I'll be grateful if you answer: why someone probably from North America should learn Persian music and put so much time as to going into Radif stuff? It is so common for people from East to learn Western music be it classical or folklore but learning Persian Music for someone from West must have an interesting reason especially for someone like me to know.
