Thanks Peter for posting one of my favorite tunes, "There's A Lull In My Life". I like all the tunes from the musical "Wake Up and Live".

Listening to it for the fourth time, 'Lull' has such a wonderful melody. Before I go to bed again, a fifth or sixth time (at least) will be played. I've always loved the song, but this version is so beautiful. American recording companies around this time had a very brash and aggressive sound, while their British counterparts produced what 20 years later would be called HiFi. The detail is incredible and the recording balance is on par with, if not better than, most records made today. Fascinating!

Peter Hendriksma There is also a lovely version of the song by Carroll Gibbons and sung by Anne Lenner.

Panachord Peter, is it somewhere on YT or Soundcloud? I love Carroll and have loads of his solos and Boyfriends records digitized on MiniDisc. I just have trouble getting a digital connection between my MD recorder and the optical (digital) input of my sound card, otherwise I would already have posted dozens and dozens of his sides. I had all my transfers from 78 to professional cassette tape (all played only once) and MD, when Windows decided to format both my internal and external (music archive) hard disk. 6 full weeks of hard work down the drain. I think I lost at least 300 hours of digitizing and around 1,000 hours of restoration work. I now only connect my external disk when I need it. There is about 5,000 hours of music on it.

A rather funny story about 'There's a lull in my life'. When Chris Ellis had a gig in Amsterdam in the 70s, one of the numbers he sang was that title. He and his fellow musicians didn't understand why the public was hilarious. Well. it was quite simple: in Dutch Lull means C*ck. Likewise Chris and his friends were hilarious when they saw billboards advertising 'Vocking Worst"... The latter is Holland's best sold brand of liver wurst. He told me this story himself when I drove him home after a day of delving through 20,000 or more 78s at a fair in Holland, and we passed by one of those billboards.

An apt title you chose for this set! My favorite has to be Fox's "Cotton."

Does anyone know if the magazine page shown at 7:08 is from the Radio Review the cover of which is shown at 9:12? Or where I might be able to find this magazine(s)- maybe in an archive somewhere?
