Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. It is in the province of Foggia in the Puglia region of southeast Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina enjoys making food for her family in the same old fashion ways as she was taught by her mother and grandmother in Italy, and also new things she has subsequently learned from family and friends in America. She also enjoys gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
Who is behind the camera and behind the scenes?
Grandma Gina’s retired son-in-law, Nick, does the filming, editing, production, and channel management. Her daughter, Maria, helps with food preparation, kitchen setup and fan support. Also, Grandma Gina usually has one or two grand-kids in the kitchen to help.
Does Gina read the comments?
We print out and show her how much love she gets from all her viewers, and she is very thankful and hopes you enjoy her cooking! Your comments bring her lots of joy, laughter, and inspiration to make more videos to share with you.

Nonna Gina was certainly in her happy place when outside in the garden. Her eyes were so big and happy looking at all the cardoon that was needing her to pick it and get it into the kitchen! My nana had my kid brother and I pick cardona in the woods. she used all of it, leaves and stems. a lot of work for her but oh so good.

Like others it’s made me cry, but when Gina speaks and shares her love, it takes me back to my incredible Italian roots, and memories flow. THAT is so true. Just one tragedy after another 😭😭😭😭😭. My heart has been so sad & heavy for the passed several weeks now bcz of all the gun violence especially at that elementary school. Now I see today another gun rampage at a Tulsa hospital. Yes, noona Gina is a breath of fresh air. We must stay in the word of GOD ( Bible ) and prayer 🙏🏾. Guys and gals, this is burdock! It grows wild like Gina says. The roots are also very tasty and edible. Many cultures use it in their cuisine. Thank you so much for sharing this with us today. I am so happy to see you outside and enjoying the garden spaces. Those plants are huge! I don't have burdock growing on my property but I am on a mission to get some seeds this year so I can grow a patch of them.

Oh, dearest Grandma...I looked and looked on Google to find "Cardoons". The were not the ones that my grandma took the kids out into the country to search for. THEN I figured that just maybe you would have a recipe for the ones found in America. YESSSSS!!!! There was your beautiful smiling and enthusiastic face. You have solved my puzzle, and I thank you so very much for it. I cannot wait to send it to my cousins - we are all in our 70's or 80's. Signora Gina in Sicilia we had those in the farm, coming to America we started to buy them and my mother would make them during the holidays Thanksgiving and New Years Day, it is a lot of work but it worth every minute of it. Thank you so much for sharing this old recipe. My grandmother made these as well. It’s a lot of work but worth all the effort. Gina please use Celtic sea salt and avacado oil or EVOO but don’t use regular table salt or vegetable oil as they are both no good for the body. They are very inflammatory. I know these items were staples for so many of us but vegetable, canola, safflower or sunflower oil are very inflammatory. Many blessings to you Gina! I love watching you. It warms my heart to hear your stories or hear you sing. You have such joy in your heart! May God continue to bless you and I pray you keep making these videos as it brings such joy to everyone. ❤️🙏🏻

I can’t believe your having a show on cooking cordoons. We left Elizebeth NJ also known as Peterstown. When spring time came around we would get out of the car if we saw them and cut them down and my mother would make them and boy they were delicious. Puts a big smile on my face to know that some else knows what they are.

This reminds me of watching three nonas in Umbria Italy, out on a hillside collecting wild herbs to cook. So excited and happy in their task. This is missing in today's world of fast food, fast life and all the nastiness that goes with it. Thanks for this interesting and educational video.

One pair from Abruzzo, the other from Calabria. Her accent is like a mixture of both. My great-great-grandfather was born in Foggia, got married, and had his children there. My Mom would go around picking Cardones every spring. Now though we only have them on Christmas Eve and its a different variety, they are large stalks but we use the same cleaning and frying method. The whole family just loves them!

My Italian husband and I just LOVE Gina!!! When I saw her in the garden, I thought she was harvesting rhubarb! I wonder what magnificent magic Gina could work with rhubarb!

It is rhubarb , cardone does not look like this at all . Just google it . I have no idea why she call it cardone because even in Italy cardone is not rhubarb , maybe in her dialect it is . But one thing l know for sure being a gardener all my life this is RHUBARB
