I think you're right about lent. It's about self control. For a lot of people their greatest vice is not gluttony with respect to their diet, but their habits. I'm talking about the internet, video games, alcohol, cannabis, snacking, and other such vices. In Catholicism, this kind of fasting is called the lenten sacrifice. If you believe god is omniscient, he can see your vices, so you have no excuse for not being brutally honest to yourself. It is recommended and customary to pray for strength to keep your fast. The Muslim literalism does not respect the spirit of fasting. People in the more wealthy Muslim countries like the UAE for example will just shift their entire day forwards, cities crawl to a halt during the day, but then they feast and party until the early morning.
Glad to see you are Orthodox, did you had any challenges when becoming Orthodox? I'm thinking about becoming Orthodox myself, in a catholic dominated country though.
Biggest challenge is family that doesn't really accept it/finds it weird or strange. Besides that although Australia is not an orthodox country by any means, there is plenty of Orthodox churches in my area from all forms of ethnicities so for me that wasn't an issue. My only advice, is if you are interested but never been to a liturgy, definitely go, soon you will learn that the liturgy is everything and the online doctrinal things are insignificant. I wish you a blessed journey
Greetings, thats a great video and enoyable. Im Hungarian EO inquirer and im doing Great Lent with some mistakes during it. However i feel it as a good test from God and a period when you can make yourself even better by the fast. May God bless everyone.
Damn, I subbed for your programming content and just now realized you’re also Orthodox Christian, God bless!☦️
