Engine Swapped MR2 (Change of plans... K24/ 2GR V6)

- SWAPTIONS.... So many different engines to choose from!
So... there was a change of plans...
The K24 motor with the Porsche transaxle will be the secondary drivetrain option for this vehicle.
(we will have this car running with both drivetrain setups)
2GR V6 swap.. I always wanted to put this in this vehicle but wanted it to be mounted traditionally and not in the FWD configuration. In the past I had to limit my engine swap options to what adapter plate options were available. The K24 and the LS swapped MR2 both used a custom purchased engine adapter kit.
To make this drivetrain option work, I had to design and build my own engine adapter plate:

Now that the fabrication work for this MR2 has been completed for both engines, we can move on to getting it running with both engines.

This is some impressive stuff. Thanks for putting it out there.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching : )
I want one 2gr to boxster adapter. Looks so good. Man you rock!
Yes!!! Thank you @beanvo9924!!
Love these videos. Swaps are always interesting to follow. Thanks, man!
Glad you liked it!! Thank you for watching
Fantastic Engineering as always.
Thank you! the adapter plate took some extra time and thought
Awesome video, I'm glad i stumbled across it! I'm super interested in your work and swaps in general despite having no experience. I considering putting a LSJ Ecotec engine in my Spyder. What are your overall thoughts on that and how feasible do you think it would be?
Good idea actually. It should fit in its original FWD configuration and just require some fabricated engine mounts. That should also put out a good deal of power over the ZZ. I say go for it!!
@@scantronsgarage I would love to but have no idea what I'm doing. Wiring seems like a huge headache too.
@@iluvcakes19 ahh i see. There is only one way to learn. I have been working on my v8 swap for 8 years. I did just get is started though!!!
@@scantronsgarage I don't think I can stand having my car out of commission for 8 years, lol 😅
@@iluvcakes19 I get it. I wanted to do this to my car 20 years ago but it was my daily driver. In time you can do this
At this point it might be easier to build a Boxter. But easy isn't always good.
This was much more of a basic process compared to my v8 swapped mr2
What’s the point of the build? Is the owner going to do A/B testing between NA K/ NA 2GR then turbo K/ turbo 2GR?
Longitudinal with a Porsche transaxle is cool, but is there an advantage for all that extra effort?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a long time fan of your channel and it’s necessary for a V8 swap, but it’s puzzling for a K swap or 2GR swap.
Keep up the excellent content.
My thoughts exactly. This custom work is really neat, but putting a 2gr or k in an MR2 does not require this level of fabrication. Not knocking it or anything. Even if the reason is “just because”, that’s good enough for me
Good thoughts. Yes testing between a turbo k series and the n/a 2gr. The 2gr swap was proposed to me after I did the K-swap. The longitudinal setup is important for moving the engine weight toward the center of the vehicle. The goal of this is to be able to achieve a 50/50 weight bias.
This car is now gone! and I am working on my v8 swap.. unfortunately i found out i have a smoked cam/lifters. more on that soon! Thanks for watching : )
@@scantronsgarage why 50/50 ? what about the gyro effect of the engine/flywheel rotation , that has a different effect between transverse and longitudinal set ups
Great video. I hope that wobbly center wasn't the final assembly? (when you were cranking it over)
yes i saw that too. that center piece is a press fit and i just popped it in for testing purposes.
i’m k swapping my sw20 😃👍. great video btw🤝🤝
looks awesome and pretty far along i see. Thanks
How much did that pipe bender set you back? I have to fab a cage for my spyder. What metal did you use? Docol r8? Nice swap! I'm doing 2gr/eb60
Sounds awesome! I did a video on the bender and a full video on the roll cage. cost me just over 1k though

So the fuel tank is relocated and the whole back area behind the driver is made into the engine compartment?
yes!! I have made a v8 version of this as well 🤩
do you sell the measurements or adapters?
I do not unfortunately but of you use two pieces of 3/16 plate with the 22 mm spacer between them you will get the spacing right
And then the flywheel you used was originally for the k24?
@@MrTurbotyla I had a toyota truck flywheel machined down to fit the part I call the "Crown". This part is purchased through Kennedy Engineering Products K.E.P. This piece is made to work with the Porsche transaxle.
The reason I mentioned K24 is because I originally had the K24 mated to the porsche transaxle and decided later to go to the 2GR. I used the crown from that kit and made it work with the 2gr to Porsche transaxle.
I can tell you this crown is the same. I bought another kit from K.E.P for my v8 to porsche and it included the same crown.
Hope this helps!
Are you going to do an update video on your build soon?
yes. my videos come out late. I'm working on one now. Should be out next month.
I've been warned about the Harbor Freight press plates, so I'm passing along the warning. Check out the press plates that SWAG Off-road sells.
Thanks! I heard that as well. I will check that out
The engine plate video in the description is private btw
Thx! I didnt think anyone actually clicked on those. The video will be public this week as soon as I update all the required info for youtube
2arfe, there is a guy so far putting down over 300 wheel hp NA
I saw that. Frankenstein motorworks. I like his work with that motor. Either way, I would have had to do a ton of work to make that engine fit this transaxle as well.
the 2gr bolts upto the e153 and fits transverse. This seems a lot more difficult to install. Why did you shy away from the transverse mount?
I like to think outside the box. moving the weight to the center of the vehicle makes for better handling. I did the same thing with my v8 mr2. Mostly, I enjoy the metal fabrication aspect of car building.
2gr is far better far NA build f the 24 n gr can handle 800 whp easily
Oh yes! I agree with that
