- This video contains a few short clips of testing we did of the blower running with the chopper on setting 2. We will do a longer test next weekend weather permitting. The audio doesn't begin to touch the awesome sound this old siren puts out. These are the only clips that didn't overpower the microphone in our camera.
For a blower from 1952, that’s sounding really good with the siren!
can we get a video of the blower running on its own sometime? that would be pretty amazing
restored with the old civil defense logo i see. OH COME ON GO FULL POWER WITH THIS BEAST LET HER SCREAM
holy cow this is impressive! great!
That sounds awesome
Nice!
What kind of fan is that at the beginning of the video?
The thing he was spinning? If so, that was the blower.
@@SouthGeorgiaSirens Yes. I know that is a blower but didn't see fans like that in a blower. That's why I asked what kind of fan that was. Normally I've seen one fan on a blower. So that's why I asked.
@@SouthernRailfan Ah, the lobes inside are called roots, that's why it's called a roots blower, basically how it works is it cups air kind of like how you cup water with your hands, and blows it out the other side, or in this case, into the siren's standpipe/air tube.
That SN is a monster
What's the difference between this and a 6M
Los The Ghost The SN blower is just a pre-date 6M. It’s a lot older than a traditional 6M.
@@TNStormSirens so beginning of the decade stuff?
ThatRandomguy02 Well, ranging from the prototype to the very first generation Thunderbolts, such as Knoxville’s.
TNStormSirens Cleveland, Ohio had 75 Thunderbolts from 1952 (only 2 which were put up in a suburb are active, rest were removed in 1973 when Cuyahoga County axed its CD office), so I’m curious if they had SN blowers as well...
The 6Ms sound the best on the bolts, so do the 5Ms.
100th sub!
Without the blower it's 100db but with the blower it's 140db
Seems a bit exaggerated. Without the blower, I have no idea how loud it would be at 100 feet but likely within that ballpark of 100db or less. With the blower on however, these are estimated to reach only 128db at 100 feet at most
But a carter is 130db
@@user-iz5wj7gr6q also no, the Carter Air raid siren is rated between 100-110db at 100 feet. Where are you getting your db ratings from?
@@thespiritstingray9359 a 1000 is 130db with a 6m
@@ThunderboltSiren1003 that's a 5m you're thinking of. The 5m type was rated at 130+ db at 100 feet for the 1000. The 6m didn't get quite that loud
Wow- this is the one I saw near UTK in the substation?
Creeperboy099 yes, it is
5m
Brian Hogan SN. predates the 6M.
