Nice job. We are all learning. The only way to learn is to experiment! The best part of this craft is that we get to “create” and perhaps someday even sell our creations. I just love giving my creations as gifts.
I also watch thepapa1947. He is very good at inside out turning. Your vase was a great first attempt. Well done 👍🏻
Thank you very much for your comment Rosie Pollard .Cheers Ahron
Changing the finish to friction polish was absolutely correct! It looks so much better!

It turned out lovely Ahron. I just happened to run across The Papas video this morning while I was surfing youtube and saw the inside out video so I knew what you were doing. It looks like a lot of extra work but it's really the only way you can get that effect. It's beautiful. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Nena thank you for your comment i really appreciate it . it gives me more energy .Cheers Ahron
Very very nice. Gary does some really awesome things with this technique! Stay with it. Practice, practice and practice some more. Oh, and sand and sand and sand lol. Thanks Ahron for sharing your journey! Stay safe, Vickie

You're welcome, Ahron...
Ahron, for a first attempt it's just fine. Yes, of course you had pitfalls, but you overcame them and kept going. Well done you. The vase is lovely!
Thank you very much for your comment Pauline Bradford .Cheers Ahron
Unique . Very nice.
Thanks a lot
Wow! That’s very nice! This the first time I have ever seen the inside out turning. I also agree with you, the darker colour really compliments the wood!
Thank you Leisongi Vangomo i am so glad you like it. Cheers Ahron
I like, Ahron! I thought about doing the same to an inside out piece that's been sitting unfinished on my shelf for months. Now I know what to expect. :) And you're right, Gary is a great teacher!
Sorry for jumping the gun . Cheers Ahron
Very pretty 😍
Thank you very much for your comment Deborah Busby .Cheers Ahron

Hi Ahron, I have never see anyone do this either. Great additional process to great a great vase. I have followed Gary for years and have learned so much from him. Take care Ahron. Cheers, Huw
Thank you very much Huw , how are you feeling my friend ? . cheers Ahron
@@oldmanwoodcraft I feeling fine my friend. We are all recovered form Covid 19. My back is really only painful when I get up in the morning and if I stand in one place for too long. Thanks for asking. Cheers, Huw
The color of the wood goes wonderfully with the resin you poured. You create works of art.
Thank you very much for your comment Kelly Hughes .Cheers Ahron
Wow an interesting way of doing something that is quite banal.
I love it.
תודה רבה . כן אתה צודק היתפספס לי קצת הצבע היה אמור להיות יותר ירוק צהוב .
Art is about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone & trying something new. Its the mistakes we make that teach us the most, I think it turned out great Ahron n keep up the great work bro.
Thanks Spike Willow i really appreciate your feedback And all your comments.Cheers Ahron
Very nice!
I did a Christmas Ornament last year but that was a small project.
This is a really big piece. Very brave!
Great idea to do it like that. I like!
Thank you very much for your comment Leo Gijssel , you are 100% right it was a big and heavy project .Cheers Ahron
Beautiful vase.. It helps to number the blocks before turning them around. That way you will always get them in the right order.
Thanks James yes you are right i know now and i learned my lesson. cheers Ahron👍🙏
I hope you do this again, you make this look easy
Thanks for your comment Tanna . it will take some time before i jump into another project like that :) .cheers Ahron
Love your creativity Ahron. Great project and look forward to seeing more of you creations.
Thank you so much CheersAhron
It’s beautiful ❤️
Thank you very much . cheers Ahron
Brilliant
Thank you very much . cheers Ahron
Gord Rock has a video called inside-out Christmas ornament, that will show you how to keep the pieces in the right way. It is easier to watch it and do it, than trying to tell you how to do it. It's awesome looking 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
P.s. Chuck Slattery did a video that started out as an ornament with resin that ended up being a vase with more resin than wood.
Cool, thanks , i will go and have a look . Thanks Cheers Ahron
Ahron, another creative project. We all sometimes need to evaluate "on the fly" if we don't like the way the project is going. I have made a number of small Christmas tree ornaments by the inside out method, It is fun, for sure. A suggestion - number the ends of the pieces befoer you start, it is easier to figure out how they go together later. I do envy you your supply of padauk - too expensive for me here in the USA. I recall you saying that it is plentiful in South Africa - lucky you!
Thank you Ron Chamberlin i am so glad you like it. Thank you for the great tip i will use it next time. Cheers Ahron
Great idea but would like to see more contrast between the wood and resin fot my taste. Probably better in real life. New to your channel got it from sprague inlay jim. Reaaly impressed with your work.
Thanks Alan for your comment. you are right ,it needed a stronger contrast , but it looks good in the sun reflection . jim is a master turner with amazing inlay ideas and he is really a great guy .
This was a very interesting concept for your project. If you do it again I would suggest complementary colors such as the reddish padauk and perhaps teal colored resin. Just a thought.
Thank you very much , thanks for taking the time to comment it is a good idea .🙏
Hallo Ahron - good "first try." Might be interesting to use a light colored (blue/green?) resin and put a little light source inside it. Kind regards. (BTW - I am not a resin fan - still, you do interesting work. Hope to see you here in the Overberg some time this year.)
Thank you very much Hennie Basson .I agree with you it was a miscalculation with the color can't do a thing with this problam . but i am looking to put in a LED . cheers Ahron
I like the color. I’m glad you started from scratch, I would have done the same. Have you done anything with Purple Heart wood?
Thanks Jojn . yes i did all my DIY tools handles are from porple heart .
Nice job bud but your right if you had less red resin so the yellow came through i think it would have looked better the papa 1947 is a great turner i watch him too great effort though for your first go well done look forward to seeing more thank you
Yeah I agree . i knew it is going to red as i put in the red . thank for your comment .Cheers Ahron
@@oldmanwoodcraft it was a lovely piece though and its all practice there are no mistakes just more things to learn by i like segmented turning and turning pens watching the papa and yourself and a few others has taught me a lot if turning resin takes your fancy nick zammeti has done some nice things
Your combination of inside out and resin is very interesting. The end result is similar to a different method of carving and resin by Dan Preese.
Thanks Charles Nichols you are right i love Dan's woork . cheers Ahron👍
Really nice job aron next time when you fix holes you can add color to 5 minute epoxy and will blend in with the overnight epoxy so you can work the same day
Thank you very much Erminio Savelloni Thank for the tip . cheers Ahron
What a cool idea Ahron. A tip on inside out. Set the blockers together the way thay will be at the end. Number them and draw an arrow toward the center on each one. That way you know both the direction and the posi6of each one. Also, it's easier to figure out the inside of you draw the design you want then cut out one side of the shape and use the outside that you cut away as a template. I hope that makes sense. It makes it MUCH easier to visualize. To help prevent bubbles, either a pressure pot or slow resin. The slower it cures, the better chance for the bubbles to release.
Hi Suzette first thanks for all your tips . I know the tip with the numbers but I'm dyslexic and with the numbers i got lost :) :) .
Next time i will use your tips thank you . Cheers Ahron
@@oldmanwoodcraft Try using 4 different colored markers to make arrows. Colors might be better with the dyslexia , I'm not sure though.
@@cjgoulet Thank you so much it is a great idea
Love it Ahron, I also watch papa1947, he does some great pieces. I wonder what your vase would look like with an led light inside?
Thanks Kevin I will check it out (without water :) )Cheers Ahron
Loved the piece although have never integrated resin into any of my pieces. Any time I’ve turned a resin blank, I’ve used sanding pieces up to 12000 grit and then a fine car paint cutter like T-Cut to get a glass-like finish. Not sure if that would work on a piece like your vase but might be worth a try, even if only to eliminate it as a possibility. Keep up the good work.
Duncan thank you for your comment i really appreciate it .Cheers Ahron
I really like the end result. I know it's not perfect or really up to your standard but for a first effort on a very technical project I think you did very well. I hope you'll do more inside out turnings.
Thank you very much Butch , it will take some . Cheers Ahron . ahh will see :)
Well I thought you made an excellent job
Thank you very much for your comment Anthony Sergeant .Cheers Ahron
well doneAhron who makes that carbide parting tool ?
Thank you very much for your comment Eddie Hall .it is black line tools out of south africa .Cheers Ahron
@@oldmanwoodcraft Thankyou Aron i also have a DVR one of the first on the market , the slow speed system is that an attachment ? as i dable in resin work here in new zealand
I didn't notice on the comments but when you first clue that together number the ends 1-4 and put arrows to the inside to show where you were and then when you take them apart you put them together with the arrows facing out. This will help to reassemble.
Thank you very much

Thank you very much for your comment oficina na sala .Cheers Ahron
Where did you get the medallions made? They look nice. I had some made that are wood with design and name added by CNC I think. They come in sheets and you pop out each one as you need it. When I think of the source I will add it.
Hi Edwin mine are made out of brass , there is a company here in Cape Town that presse it for me , i got my on die
@@oldmanwoodcraft Very nice. How much does it cost to get a die made?
The papa is excellent, been watching Gary for years.
Your inside turning was a little rough which shows now you have it turned around. Gouges would have left a better finish with this soft timber.(is it cedar)
If you number each piece in corner then it’s easy to turn inside to out.
Pleased you refinished it. Does look better.
Waste of time turning inside out as you can’t really see the inside at all.
Learn how to use sharp gouges and you’ll get a much better finish off the tool.
Carbides do have a use but I find then good at turning burls and roughing down really hard hardwoods,, I’m from Australia and Aussie hardwoods do benefit from carbide.
Thanks for sharing
Is that a pick n pay Joghurt bakkie?
I love paduk but it think the resin was too much the same color. IMO it should have been a little lighter. 👍
I also love paduck but hate the mess it makes . i am fully in agreement with you with the color .thanks for your comment Janice .Cheers Ahron
Pretty nice. I think the resin would have stood out more if there was more yellow showing through, but still beautiful. And I’ve never seen anybody do an inside-out turning and then fill it with resin!
Thanks Jacob for your comment , you on the money ,definitely need a strong contrast of color .Cheers Ahron
Well done Ahron. I like it. Where do you buy your resin from. I heard you say in one of your other videos but can't remember. I am from PE. Here it is very expensive.
Hi Andre you can get me on my FB Ahron Gropper
Try putting in pressure pot to get all air out of epoxy for a cleaner pour
Mooi gedaan , doen zo voort
I think you are supposed to label them 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' so when you turn them inside out it's 'D', 'C', 'B' and 'A'...or something like that. Anyway, it is supposed to make them easier to put the item together backwards. I think I saw that on Oliver Gloomis' You Tube channel...or ThePapa1947's channel...someone like that. I'm glad you saved some of the shavings...looking forward to seeing that project. Hampshire Sheen puts a great shine on things.
thanks Morgan Calvi your opinion is very important to me .Cheers Ahron
@@oldmanwoodcraft thanks.
Where do you get the medallions from? I've been struggling to find a supplier.
Hi where are you from? I got it in Cape Town South Africa.
Hi, Thanks for the response, I'm from the Northern Cape South Africa. Can you maybe give me their name or what I can Google to find them forva quote I'll much appreciate it.

Dear Ahron. That is beautiful and I admire your honesty and patience going back to 80 grit. I have just seen the latest inside out video posted by Ray Whitby. Also, check out my comment to Sprague wood turning. You all inspire me 🌞
Hi Ray i saw his post it is Beautiful , i will look for your comment . It is crazy that Ray and me the same day the same project idea
the red resin takes away from it maybe blue or green!
Thank you very much Jerry you are 100% right . cheers Ahron
i liked it and i am not a fan of inside out turning.
Thank you so much
I know Carbides make take away a lot of risk of catches, but you get more tare out and the edges of your design are not as crisp. Your video at time 1:20 you can see after the parting tool that there is a lot of torn grain and lifted fibers on the edges. cutting in with a spindle gouge or a skew chisel would have made all the difference. I have demoed the Inside-out ornament twice for my guild, Alamo Woodturners Association is the channel name.
Thanks James Carter i really appreciate your feedback .Had a look at your video thanks .Cheers Ahron
Pas beau du tout !
