  • Welcome to The Onyx Report's Daily Black Masculinist News, where we Black Male Justice Advocates uplift Black men and boys using critical analysis in today's video, "Is Scott Galloway’s Analysis Good For Men?"
    The Onyx Report is a program that critically analyzes the experiences, histories, and perceptions pertaining to Black males in American society across age, class, religion, sexuality, and occupation. I am your host, Dr. T. Hasan Johnson, Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Fresno State, Black Male Studies scholar, and Black Male Justice Advocate. In the program, we examine current events and major issues using an empirically-driven Black masculinist theoretical lens, thus including such concepts as the Black male dual economy, anti-Black misandry, phallicism, the subordinate male-target hypothesis, the subculture of violence theory, and the Black Gynarchy).
    Our goal is to remind people-including Black men themselves-of Black male humanity. Join us every Wednesday at 5pm (pst), unless otherwise stated, on UA-cam, Facebook, and every 1st & 3rd Wednesday on www.InnerLightRadio.com.
    Check out Dr. Johnson's book, 'Solutions For Anti-Black Misandry, Flat Blackness, and Black Male Death: The Black Masculinist Turn' at: www.routledge.....

    I finished my 9th grade year with an 0.8 GPA. I graduated HS with a 2.3. Made 89-100s form 10-12, the result of epiphanies concerning my environment, and two teachers who saw brilliance in me, one black male teacher and one white female teacher. I’m grateful for them being cognizant of my capabilities beyond my behavior.

    While I appreciate Scott Galloway focusing on the concern of men, I have my reservations. Why do I get the feeling the issues of men are only being addressed because these lingering problems are starting to affect white dudes? When this same subject was discussed regarding black men, there was radio silence or telling us to "stop being a victim".

    Galloway is a marketer as a profession and he recognizes that without stable families and an environment for both women AND. Men to flourish and form relationships, there’s a whole ecosystem of products and services that would be rendered useless. He can look at this through the eyes of social structures like families and commerce, but can’t fly too close to the sun without being beaten down. But it has to be addressed or the whole society will suffer and not just one facet (women’s mating options). Thanks for doing the deep dive, doc.

    Ive seen this interview before. With you here we can actually take clear notice of the gap bewteen the black and white experience. Sounded as if his mom was making more doing that type of work. Also the proximity of successful man she put him near due to where she worked. Im willing to bet if we dug into it. We would find how far professor scott could fall is much shallower but how far he could rise via opportunity alone was much higher.

    1:25:00 Civil rights didn't hurt white people, but policy created to help black people ultimately helped white people more. As far as I'm concerned, it is a zero sum game. Specific policy and resources for black boys and men in the 80 percentile range defines my politics at this point. Nothing else matters to me. If no one is talking about how to facilitate that, then I don't give a damn about their issues or their problems. Using civil rights was a bad example because his community ultimately used the policy that came from said rights to benefit white women the most, lgbtq second, and black women/girls third.

      @brianmcmurray4023 4 місяці тому

      @@metacog7 The American experiment has been at threat long before Trump's presidency and possible second term ever became a reality. In fact, I would argue that George W. Bush and the Neocons along with the Neo-liberals like the Clintons and Obama/Biden have destroyed the American Experiment far more than Trump ever could.
      Black people are cowards. We see Trump as something to be afraid of rather than as a weapon to be used. If there was ever a time to boycott and protest, it is now... a political boycott to be exact and Trump has the perfect optics to make our boycott have real leverage. We have to be willing to suffer the consequences of a less comfortable lifestyle if we expect to see real change for black people. That change won't come by continually accepting crumbs from Democrats because we have this idea that Republicans are so much more racist.

    Good video Dr T, I hope you do a review of X Men 97, I’ve surprisingly enjoyed the show, however the X men have always taken a lot from the black American man’s history and situations that only pertain to him but has often times excluded him from the story entirely in favor of other groups appropriating his struggles. I don’t even think there are many black American male X Men, the only one I know is Synch. Bishop, I believe is Australian Aboriginal, Darwin is Afro Latino (non human appearance), Gentle is half Wakandan, etc. I remember reading the story with Kitty Pryde trying to compare Mutie to the N Word then Havok (Alex Summers) had the whole “Don’t call me the M Word” controversy, basically black American aren’t leads despite everything that makes X men what it is, is taken from their history.

One of my observations of it was, that even in a society, where the mutants were basically haveing sex free for alls (They were literally implying that mutants were having orgies on Krakoa,to the point that new mutant children literally didn't even know whose parent was who's.) Black male mutants were basically non-existent. Even the bi and gay black male mutants, had a weird asexual sex-neutral vibe to them, it was odd. Dr Hasan - your are spot on in your analysis of Scott Galloway, your description of him as providing a centrist neo male perspective. I would add that Scott analysis is on point and articulated well. However, his prescriptions often are retro industrialized modernist constructs (neo male) that ask for young men to embody the first principles of the "greatest generation," values once rejected by boomers like Scott (59 yrs old) and has now arisen. Scott will minimize men by saying they need to get off the couch and games, get any job, save money so that they are desirable mates. He recommend them not being connected to their passion in work, when that is indeed the problem that produced a generation of angry men ... I will add that we should find partnership with the Galloway, Reeves, Farrell (the OG on this matter) because this needs to scale. Black male essentialism on this matter is not enough.

    • @DrTHasanJohnson
      @DrTHasanJohnson  4 місяці тому +14

But just can't sit in isolation when there are opportunities to scale.
