Kenny join my band when he was 8yrs old. Gifted, Kenny wowed everybody then. At age 8yrs old Kenny was writing his own music. I must say Kenny was, and still is very down to earth. Keep doing what you love Kenny.
I agree! Google REFUSES to let me share the link, but check out "Pat Metheny & Friends - This Masquerade." The genius performance of the masterful musicians (P. Metheny, M. Brecker, N. Landgren) will blow your mind!
Kenny writes amazing tunes that are unique and original, yet with great swing and live playing, a creative visionary that bridges an old school melodic approach of the jazz greats and new fresh harmonic style that audiences love and appreciate it.
What a pleasure ! I saw this line-up on a concert in 1996, far away from home - in Montreal on the Montreal-Jazz-Festival. I can even remember the public singing during that song (8th minute). Hmmm, makes me think of the old days ;-) Wonderful summer in a wonderful city, wonderful concert ! Thx for posting !
Dave Brubeck famously said that he considered the audience to be the "5th" member of the DBQ, pointing out that how they act, react, and even the potential for participation would determine to some extent how inspired the playing of the group would be that night. Boy, was Dave proven right here. Also got a kick out of the duet between Kenny and Brian -- reminded me the epic John Coltrane/Elvin Jones double solo on the Half Note version of "One Up, One Down".
I wasn't familiar with that quote, but I can surely hear Kenny Garrett improvise with the croud, a shout here and there, and respond to it. Magnificent interplay, great musicians.
The actual quote (I paraphrased what Brubeck said) can be found in the liner notes to the "25th Anniversary Concert" album, which also contains notes from Paul Desmond (his are by far the most hilarious), a brief statement from Joe Morello, and some thoughts from Senator Eugene Wright (that's how Mr. Wright signed it). Mr. Brubeck also mentions in his notes (briefly) the role that music in general (and jazz in particular) has played in human society.
matt knowles Good question! It definitely looks like Charnett. I've only seen a couple of clips of him, though, and this video's about 20 years old. Looks a lot like Nat Reeves, too. Both of 'em played with Kenny at various times. Looks like Brian Blade on drums?

It's good to hear Pat Metheny play outside of his own unit , he sounds awesome!

This is a great tune off KG's 1997 album 'Song Book' - a great CD as well.
Made me think of Kieth Jaretts Sing a song of song. Would definitely recommend the live recording with pat metheny. Great playing as always Bob!
Either my UA-cam is glitched or you may have posted this on the wrong video

何よりも中東を思わせる曲とベースラインがいい。パットのアドリブも冴えている。ケニーの聴衆を巻き込んだライブ感溢れるソロも好印象。
Incredible performance!!
kenny.... he doesnt get into a "zone" it's more like a "plane"... and "astral plane" when he plays...
Like an astral travelling ?
Outrageously beautiful.
Truly magical
Admirado Kenny.... eres magnífico.
Nothing better to me
Still inspiring after 13 years of listening
Brian Blade. KG and BB, then Pat joins. Now that felt good. Reminds of something from BB’s pen…
Meraviglia!!!
Pat murdered that solo! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes he did!!! A masterful performance!!! 👏
Ornithology quote!!!!! Damn! I guess I'm getting there.
I love Metheny's compositions. He could really write a smooth soundtrack.
Pat is a great composer but I think this is Kenny's Tune :)
Nice.

I am wondering what brand mouthpiece Kenny Garrett is using and what the tipopening is
Steven Roosblad it's a vintage Selmer Soloist and it's super open, apparently around .96

For some dumb reason I can hear a human beat box like Dougie adding to this.
Who's playing Bass? Is that Charnett Moffett
matt knowles Good question! It definitely looks like Charnett. I've only seen a couple of clips of him, though, and this video's about 20 years old. Looks a lot like Nat Reeves, too. Both of 'em played with Kenny at various times. Looks like Brian Blade on drums?
matt knowles I think that's Rodney Whitaker
+matt knowles It's Nat Reeves! My bass instructor at the Hartt School of Music
Motor city Sommer sunset
Can somebody please tell the names of all the bandmembers?
Kenny Garrett-alto saxophone
Pat Metheny-guitar
Nat Reeves-bass
Brian Blades-drums
3:15 'So what' ?
ornithology
is this Brian on the drums?
Why was this recorded with a potato..
Bram Groeneveld that's what they used back In the day.
Great music interaction fantastic!!!!!
Obvious one of the great of Alto sax player in the world! Sound just like when we practice together in Detroit !!!!!
Great solo by Metheny but he's as not spiritual as Kenny Garrett.
KG is a vulcano that spits out spiritual and soulful notes.
Armando Pace and Pat is a river, flowing with continual, original thought, melody and spirit.
Not as spiritual ? Can't agree, it's a different way of expression, and not a less interesting one.
Yea, I've seen him live about six times. He does crazier solos than that, he will do Coltrane like 10 min solo
Armando Pace simply different, it is not being not spiritual.
