Everything looked good except that sad little cheese sandwich at 1:59 and those precooked “drawer” burgers 🤣. Very nice selection if you want to have your own “high tea” in the afternoon too. Scones with jam and whipped cream, little sandwiches etc. it’s very nice that these ships offer so much in the afternoon. Some of us go way “off schedule” when on a cruise to get out of the daily grind routine. And I’m ALWAYS ready for ice cream and gelato. 😁 The coffee gelato looked especially good! Thanks for the video. I always enjoy watching your family have fun and eat all the “good things”.
Yeah their snack sandwiches at the buffet were pretty basic. I was taking the pics of the food and one of the guest entertainers was not happy about "salami sandwiches" from what he thought was a "luxury" cruise line lol. But yes their ice creams were definitely better than many cruise lines in terms of selection and quality. Thanks for the comment Sally! 🙂
@@TravelTouristVideos Might be helpful to confirm and to explain if there is any difference of terms like "icecream" versus "Gelato" versus "soft-serve" . . . How do the ingredients, textures, and flavours compare?
Really appreciate the honest review of the Mast grill on Apex. Glad to know the Pool Grill on Millennium was cooked to order and better. You had mentioned that the snack foods on Carnival was good. On Royal they are mostly ok, not great. Going on Explorer soon, hope it’s good! Thanks for a great video!
Yeah we were surprised that the burgers & dogs were precooked on the Apex, but they did have better pizza. Yes Guy's Burgers on Carnival is really good, though very greasy lol. Thanks so much for the comment- have a wonderful time on the Explorer! 🙂
@@ChristianLehrer For longer itineraries, you can expect higher quality, more attention to detail, and, most importantly, getting acquainted to various employees, who can then take your compliments and any complaints or special requests constructively and act on them during your cruise. Make sure to give feedback right away if something is not satisfactory. Don't wait until the end of the cruise or after the cruise to speak up or out. At least, give them the opportunity to make things better for you while you can still enjoy it.
@@brentshuffler1234Thank you so much! Had a great cruise on Explorer, Malaga, Cartagena, Barcelona with Sagrada Familia, plus Toulon, Ajaccio and Rome were amazing! Yet, food was better on last cruise on Radiance and it had more included food venues, more seating, plus much more light. Doing another transatlantic in Nov and my first back2back to Norway next spring!
I know it’s just a small thing, but the fact that they have clotted cream available for your scone is both exciting and unusual. It’s the little things in life that make me happy 🤗. The Mast Grill offerings look very very tempting, so I’m surprised to hear it wasn’t that great. Joanne compares this food to Carnival, which I find intriguing, and makes me much more inclined to book a Carnival cruise sooner rather than later. It’s just that Carnival has a certain reputation I’d rather avoid. Probably best to book a 7-day or longer sailing so-as to avoid the “weekend getaway” types who tarnish the reputation.
In my opinion, there is no comparison between Celebrity and Carnival. Many, many cruises on Celebrity plus other lines but only one on Carnival. I felt Celebrity had superior food and service. The last cruise was another Alaska cruise on the Celebrity Solstice this trip. Royal suite, a true two room suite with additional half bath. Outstanding but was splurge for a big number birthday lol. Enjoy
@@angelaherring5443 Thanks for sharing that nostalgia! One thing that I am very curious to know is this: how do the current flavours and textures of foods (be it icecream or anything else) compare with those of 40 to 60 years ago? Would you say that most of what is presented nowadays is more about presentation and taste (e.g., addictive added salt and added sugar) rather than real foods and natural flavours?
@@brentshuffler1234 things are a lot different from when I was a child. Even vine ripened tomatoes aren’t as good as they were when I was a child. Speaking of that. My parents had a garden and I would sneak behind the tomato plants and eat them off the vine. My mother caught me and tanned my behind. She said I thought the birds were taking my tomatoes but it was you. Lol! That’s been over 50 years ago. Lol!
The gelato was really good- definitely worth spending a little extra for. And yeah that was unexpected how on the newer, fancier ship the burgers & hot dogs were taken out of a warming drawer.
The Pool Grill on the Millennium was one of the biggest disappointments on the cruise. I would say that the hamburgers were very ordinary and the crew could NOT cook a french fry properly to save their lives. People were bringing back their french fries as they were almost raw. HAL does a really outstanding job in this area and even NCL is a lot better. The ice cream station, however, was one of the best I have seen and really offered a good variety of ice creams and sherbets. The post 10 pm food was a bit lacking but I had some great conversations with crew members and closed down the place at 1 am most nights. Another great video.
Thank you very much! 😊 Yeah the burger grill is a weakness on Celebrity cruises- it was even worse on the Apex. Pizza on the Apex was very good though, and the ice cream selection is excellent. But yes HAL is way ahead in terms of burgers & fries. NCL has good ones too at O'Sheehans, and of course Carnival has the tasty and very greasy Guy's Burgers .
Great video. All the food looked good except the cheese sandwich. Maybe if the chef grilled it, it would be good. I don't eat beef or pork, so it was nice to see that Celebrity offers turkey burgers. I've only cruised with Carnival and I haven't seen turkey burgers offered.
🛳🛳🛳 Pool Grill looked good. Buffet is always my choice of dining. Although do check out MDR menu for idems which catch my likings. Have sailed on board Equinox 29 day transatlantic several years ago 🛳🛳🛳
be warned, not all ice cream is free, the gelato you have to pay for, and in our opinion all food should be free,, you pay enough and to be charged for ice cream isn't kewl,, we did our first cruise on a Celebrity Apex, and our last, we found it boring, and almost an old age home on the sea, we never seen so many canes, wheelchairs, and scooters, it was crazy. And for the price we could have done the Islands for almost 3 weeks for the 2 of us. We did Europe for 3 weeks for 5 grand... There wasn't anything special about the cruise ship, no games room that we thought they would have, no little convience store to get some snacks, eg chips, a chocolate bar ,,, we bought a couple things, 4 things and it was almost 25 bucks, And no snack bar open 24-7 like the islands doesn't happen, they have certain hours, So sadly didn't meat our expectations
We're cruising Celebrity this summer. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure- thanks for the comment, and have a great cruise! 🙂

Kathy, maybe it was a hint to her husband..... [wink]
Hotdogs and hamburgers really need to be freshly cooked for sure. Love the ice cream variety that is included !

Yeah Carnival has some good casual eats for sure- hope you get to try it out. They've brought back afternoon tea as well. Thanks for the comment! 🙂

On our last Carnival cruise my husband and I were always grabbing an ice cream cone. We acted like kids in our grandparent age.

I agree that it is disappointing when burgers and hot dogs are pre-cooked, ut the gelato looked great

The BBQ and cheese pizza look good. I’d just need some red pepper flakes and then they’d be perfect.
We enjoyed those pizza too 😋
That Apex pizza looked 1000% better than Millenium offering
Totally agree
We thought so as well

As a type 2 diabetic I cannot eat all that carbohydrate laden foods , could I get a lettuce wrap as my burger of choice?
You sure can!
Do you know if Carnival has started doing tea time again? More specific, Valor?

Hope you get to go sooner than later! 🙂
Is there a gluten free pizza option?
There sure is- just ask them and they'll bake one if they don't already have it.
A-1 steak sauce would be good on that burger.
Great idea!
Great info. Looks can be deceiving, those burgers looked good but that's to bad about the taste. Everything looked good. Thanks and take care.

For the casual food options- absolutely. But Celebrity has better buffet (especially the newer ships) and main dining.
The food looks underwhelming
