Miniature Concrete Gun Emplacement from 1 Piece of Foam - Wargaming Terrain Tutorial

- In this weeks Wargaming Terrain Tutorial video I show you how to quickly and easily build a Concrete Gun Emplacement out of 1 small scrap of insulation foam. In the video I will add some additional details towards the end, but these are purely cosmetic and optional as you'll see. Within a few minutes you can have these cut out, and a quick bit of painting will have them tabletop ready in no time. I explain the steps and process I go through, and show that these can be made to just about any size you like with the most basic of tools. I also use a few techniques from previous Wargaming Terrain builds I've done on the channel, and I will link those during the tutorial, as well as below this description. Please ensure you are taking all precautions to do this safely, and with the safety equipment you see me using if you have it available. You may also be able to achieve the same results from using a hot wire foam cutter if you have one, and that would also be a much safer alternative to using a knife. Ensure you also wear a mask if/when you do any sanding to this foam, I have no idea how harmful the particles might be, so play it safe. These emplacements will make perfect wargaming terrain for all sorts of games including Warhammer 40k, Kill Team, Necromunda or just about any setting that calls for modern or sci-fi terrain for your tabletop games.
Thanks everyone for watching, and thank you to everyone that has subscribed already to the channel, it really means a lot.

Glad I saw this video on Facebook!! Instant sub!!
Thanks so much Jodeci, really appreciate the sub. I hope you find something else on the channel you enjoy as well. Good to have you here mate.
They look great! The paint, weathering and damage all give it a realistic feel. Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers John. Appreciate the comment.
Got to say, I love the damage you added to this bunker, looks great!
Thanks so much. Love your channel by the way, and your new build video is really something else. Loved it.
@@RFDHobby Thank you :)
As always man came out amazing
Thanks so much mate. Don't worry, soon I'll have some Orc terrain for you. :)
Dude I'm gonna try and make some of these. Sick!
Thanks, yeah these are really quick and easy, and turned out great. Just be safe if you're using a knife like I did, doesn't take much for it to go wrong with a sharp blade like this.
Pro tip : you can watch movies at instaflixxer. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Leighton Tanner Yup, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)
@Leighton Tanner definitely, been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
Looks great.
good idea with the glove, just a matter of time before i slice myself good, all the cutting i do like that. Nice bunker, just like the ones in the opening scene Saving private Ryan
Thanks 👍. Yeah the glove just makes sense for the cost of it, and like you said, the amount of 'unsafe' cutting I do on a regular basis :) . Thanks for the comment mate.
@@RFDHobby Thanks for the video
@@westernsharpie thanks for watching man. I really want to show some RC stuff on the channel, I've made a couple of trailers for my 1/10 scale stuff, and converted a couple of toys as well. But I love RC, it's not real popular where I am unfortunately, but channels like yours make up for it. Cheers mate.
@@RFDHobby That's really nice to hear, especially coming from you. You're a hell of a modeller my friend. I just subscribed. I scrolled through your videos and realized I have a ton of quality and entertaining videos to watch and learn from. 👍Keep up the amazing work!
Always doing great work my friend. I really like how fast and simple this is. Great job
Thanks Jirhon. These are a great way to get some quick terrain that looks cool. Really glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for the comment mate!
@@RFDHobby your welcome my friend
Simple, good looking build. And some handy tips for working in foam with a knife, which is all I've got. :)
Thanks mate. I was quite pleased with this one too, especially being just a few cuts with the knife.
Very nice I indeed, like the finish very realistic. Thanks for posting .
No problem. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Awesome! 🤙
Thanks!
Very nice bunkers you got there mate, nothing wrong with a cardboard light! lol
Thanks Nate. Yeah it's doing the job for now, and I can't complain. Great to see a new video up on your channel too. Thanks for your support too mate!
Love the look and I too for a long time did not have a foam cutter, but it came out great. What I was wondering why not cut the top off and then glue, wouldn't that make the hollowing out easier, or was there a reason that you chose to keep it one piece. Thanks for the inspiration. Gotta try these as soon as I can.
Thank you very much. What I found with cutting this foam with the knife, was that the deeper I tried cut with the knife, the more the blade would want to bend and make awful looking cuts. With the cutout (as opposed to cutting it off), I found it quite easy to straighten up these rough cuts after digging out that front section. But if I had cut the roof off, I was more likely to have these rough cuts showing on the building, or not glue back together correctly at the end. It also allowed me to make larger bunkers with that knife as it didn't have to cut all the way through. I don't think there's a wrong way to go about making these, but with the limited tools I had on hand, I found this was easier to keep the building looking clean at the end. With a proper foam cutter, I think you could easily remove the roof to make the rest of the build a bit easier and still look good though.
Thanks for this great project getting into War game miniatures, and taking an interest in the specs of your foam.
So just where do we get the Foam these days? Last year I was over the moon when I purchased some 50mm/20mm green colored "BASTION - XPS Handy Panel / Multi-Use Foam Board" for $30/$20 sheets - 600mm x 1200mm, from the big green shed ! I was suss about the density factor at first, because they feel some what flaky, but the 20mm is R Value 0.85, and the 50mm is R Value 1.4 m2k/W.
Having checked some other brands and properties online, Saviro XPS Blue Board rates with the following densities of 32-35 Kg/m3. The BASTION is made in Turkey and has no Density rating on the label. The stuff I found pre covid, before this batch I b ought was like violet crumble crossed with a flake hybrid. Looked like dodgy left overs. Harder to get good XPS these days. Any Ideas?
nice jop.
Thank you!
Which material do you use
I'm using a piece of 50mm thick XPS foam for this build.
