    I've had the device for 2 months now and I'm absolutely blown away by what it's doing for me. I have calibrated my KEF LS 50 and sub KC 62 The stereo became wide and highly embossed. All the bass issues are gone and now I have bass everywhere in the room. Dense and tight. High frequencies became crystal clear. The mids are clear and open without being annoying.

    I read the comments... man... people have to understand. Music production has sience behind it... since the beginning.... those dudes on white robes did actually knowwhat they were doing...nowadays anyone with a laptop and some pirate software is a producer a musician a sound engineer.... and it's not people's fault... it's their dream... the companies make a ton of money out of it the last 25 years... but trinnov for someone who really knows about physics and sound is a blessing... if you own a pair of monitors costing 6K and above... trinnov is the way to make it work even better.... ofcourse it will make cheaper monitors sound better... but up to apoint...cause the material of the speakers and amps inside can go so far...
    It;s way more than just an eq fix...

    Thanks Justin and Antoine, I'm a recent adopter of the Nova and La Remote, and very much enjoying it. I'm managing to play midi keyboard parts with the bypass option, but very much looking forward to the lower latency options.
    Ps... To the naysayers, I understand you either would never spend this amount of money on this type of solution, or you simply cannot afford the Nova, at this time. If you've tried Sonarworks or the original ARC and compared it to the Trinnov (I have, and also tried Neumann MA1), you would know that they don't compare (including the software setup, taking measurements, stability and in use) , and the amount of time you can waste trying to get your mixes right because your monitoring is not accurate, you would be happy to spend what you need to for a great solution, that will save you time and peace of mind! Trinnov Nova is a pro solution for serious mixers, if you're not at that stage, then it's not for you.

    As someone with a small treated room im definitely interested in the Nova. But as an ex-programmer It does also seem to come with some risk regarding the the use case of low latency for compositoin/tracking as the software running on the box is not completely optimized yet.
    Do they knoow for sure that they will be able to get the latency under 10ms with the current FPGA in the hardware even? Or maybe they wont be able to do it in this revision of the hardware.
    I guess in the old days the resource intensive parts of their algorithm would be written in assembler code or maybe it already is. Guess time will tell how low they can get the latency in future updates.

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  2 місяці тому +1

      To my understanding, Antoine is already using an Alpha with lower latency.
      Doing a complete bypass with 0 latency shouldn’t be an issue.
      And it seems that this system should be able to be at least as low latency as their earlier hardware without issue.
      They believe that they can get it even lower still with this new hardware.
      That’s what they’re working toward, and I hope they achieve it!

    People often neglect THD, especially when boosting. Also boosting SBIR nulls… no magic fox for that other than getting placement and treatment as good as you can

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  2 місяці тому +1

      Adding a sub and then placing that sub well and doing phase alignment of that sub (possibly with Trinnov) can indeed do something to combat nulls!
      Getting rid of deep nulls with standard paneling can be tricky, depending of the frequency of the nulls.
      6” panels hung in corners can do a good amount, but they have their limits, and specialized passive or active bass traps may be needed if you want to do even more with the treatment route.
      But Trinnov, especially in conjunction with a sub, can actually do a lot to help combat nulls as well.
      THD isn’t a huge problem boosting digitally, unless it is overdriving analog components later in the chain.
      That said, the Trinnov algorithm does bias toward cuts rather than boosts I believe.
      Below a certain threshold, reducing THD even further isn’t our lowest hanging fruit for improving fidelity…
      …But getting better phase alignment across the frequency spectrum can be!
      It’s an underappreciated aspect of monitoring performance, and an edge that Trinnov has over its competitors.
      Very best,
      Justin

    The Trouble with Trinnovs...
    is that you're spending an ABSOLUTE FORTUNE to do a temporal room sweep that only needs to really be done once, unless you plan on making major changes to your listening environment. And then there's the box... There is no way on this earth that the DSP going on in the Trinnov box CANT be done natively on a half decent PC or MAC.
    Trinnov are missing a trick here. You could HIRE the mic/box, run a sweep with their software, and then have that DSP run natively. This could also potentially address the major problem with Trinnov units which is latency - you can't run a live session smoothly with the Trinnov in the monitor path...run it natively on the other hand, and you could easily switch out the temporal adjustments whilst retaining the rooms EQ correction. Et Voila, no hardware re-routing in the monitor path required.
    And honestly, IK Multimedia's box could do this for a fraction of the price if they shipped it with a calibrated spaced mic array, a'la Trinnov. This isn't rocket science.

    • @JustinColletti
      @JustinColletti 2 місяці тому +2

      Hm, I’m not so sure about some of this. We talk later in the episode about the advantages of running this through external hardware.
      Not having to run a systemwide app or plugin can be a benefit of its own. And it also helps overcome the obstacle of having a system with multiple monitors that software based solutions can’t seamlessly handle.
      With the Trinnov hardware you can have multiple speaker setups, each with its own calibrated correction, that automatically switch together. It’s a speaker switching and monitor control system as well as a correction system.
      Having the hardware (and the associated price point), also allows a calibration specialist to log into your system and help trouble shoot, apply setting changes, and generally act as an acoustics consultant for you, included in the price.
      The things you are mentioning around latency are also just as achievable in external hardware as they are in software. Plus, with external hardware, there’s the potential option of full hardware bypass off a physical switch.
      No doubt that the cost of Trinnov isn’t justifiable for every studio, but the format does have its advantages.
      I would agree however, that it would be nice to see software solutions that use a similar multi capsule mic, and I’d encourage Trinnov to do that themselves at some point!
      If they don’t, someone else might, eventually.
      I hope some of that makes sense!
      -Justin

    • @stephenfleming8030
      @stephenfleming8030 2 місяці тому +1

      @@JustinColletti Having a specialist is indeed amazing, and you can only get that at this price point, but again...unless you're making changes, this really only needs to be done once.
      And I'm not at all convinced that the DSP required to handle this natively is in any way more complex or more compute intensive than the kind of plugs that most engineers use on a daily basis. The multiple monitor problem is easily solved by having a multichannel Trinnov plug on the outputs with it's own matrix to handle monitor combinations and selections specific to the user. For example you could have 2 3-way mid fields with a sub, 2 nearfield using the same sub but optimized for the nearfields, and any combinations of other stereo or multichannel outs limited only by the number of physical outputs you have, all of which could switched between seemlessly using ADC.
      But then, I totally get why someone would want a black box in the corner that just does what it does. Switch on, set and forget.

      One makes only EQ corrections, while the other corrects for frequnency response in the time domain. These aren't the same things.
      But to your point, I assume...does the Trinnov sound 4 grand better? If you're a mastering engineer you could easily justify the expense, but if you're in the same boat as most folks where every penny counts...I can't see how you could possibly justify it , especially given that every great record recorded before the Trinnov arrived still sounds like a great record.

    1. I think 3-5 ms TOTAL latency, including interface, ampemulation, roomcorrection. Is good, not great, meaning nova probably has to hit 1 ms to be engaged in tracking imo, not 10ms.
    2. He is bordering a bit missinformation land when he says something along the lines of that you can get perfect results even with less/no treatment, just the fact that early reflections and modes is not gonna get fixed with this is enough to prove that false.
    I do want this system but will wait until it reaches like 1,5k$ personally, or accept my slight ruff edges and buy great headphones to fill in the gaps a bit

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  2 місяці тому

      I don't think that he says you can do perfect room correction without treatment! He says the opposite in the beginning: that room treatment is one of the major components in ideal monitoring.
      That said, you can get surprisingly good results with minimal or absent treatment using Trinnov as long as you stay glued to the sweet spot. You won't be able to remove flutter echo, but the frequency response and phase alignment at your listening position can be pretty bang on as long as you're listening in your sweet spot.
      I too would be excited by a lower price point and even lower latency! But not everyone is going to wait that long. How many years might it be for affordable technology at this level of correction to get there?
      In the meantime, I think Trinnov is the best sounding option if you can justify the cost. And if you can't... you can still make great sounding records! :-) It's a very helpful bonus, but is not a requirement.
      -Justin
