Hello Kristine. I haven't had a word of the year before. I've given it some thought this month but can't find a word to sum up what I wish to accomplish. I guess the closest word would be authentic. I want to do the things I want to do, not what someone else thinks I should do. I want to knit the patterns I like in the colors of yarn I like, not worrying if others approve. Basically, I want to be me and not be constantly judged because I don't have the same likes as someone else. I'm so tired of people expecting me to be the way they perceive me to be. Sorry that was kind of a rant lol. I would really like to try Chinese calligraphy and the Pinch Me dough. Really enjoyed the episode. Thank you so much. ❤️

Thank you for these great ideas. I listen to bedtime stories on Librivox.org, which has a world of recordings of literature in the public domain.

Very sorry to hear of your mishaps. Glad you did not break anything. Staying calm in today's world is not easy, but sounds like you have found lots of ways to try to achieve calm. Knitting, crafts, yoga etc. help a lot of people. Of course, trying to eat well and fit in exercise is also valuable. Stretching is another interesting theme. I've also come to realize that sometimes "less is more". So minimalism makes me feel calmer. Listening to your videos also makes me feel calmer. Glad to hear this semester is less stressful for you.

I have this lovely book “20-Minute Retreats” by Rachel Harris, Ph.D. Published in 2000. 20 minutes of guided solitude. I have found this useful over the years. Just subscribed to the Bird Feeder and Scuba Diving slow TV. Thanks

I so enjoyed this podcast. I have watched slow tv. I also have beach and fireplace DVDs. Most of my relaxation comes from my knitting. I am conscious of colors and texture. I also am trying to resolve some long time issues to bring closure and peace. I try to read my bible every day with my first cup of coffee with candles lit to dive gently into my hectic day as a special education teacher!
    Many thanks again!

I paused the video when you were talking about the chinese calligraphy! Went right to amazon and ordered me set and some paper! This is what I needed! Been wanting something new and had no clue this was even out there! New challenges (1 a month) is my theme this year!! And decided to be a kid again! I started the Top Secret club from Highlights and get a new one every 3 weeks!

Happy to see you on UA-cam again! I'm sorry about the mishaps you've had. Hope everything is better now. I'm impressed that you could stay calm with all the political upheaval in the United States and around the world.

I looooved this epi & the concept of 'themes' instead of resolutions or 'goals' which is the new one going around in my fiber podcasts vids. I hadn't heard of any of those things you mentioned for calm (some can't afford but there are other things) Just watching that tiny clip on the calligraphy I swear I almost nodded off...THAT was calming. You gave me (us I think) a lot to think on & am excited. I'm going to try to combine a little of each of calm & stretching....really excited about this! Thanx so much for sharing your time, effort & creativity. Watch those ice patches!! Use to live in PA & now CA....don't miss that part one bit! :D

Hi Kristine. I met you at the knitting pipeline retreat and really enjoyed your podcast. My word for 2019 is ASK. It has broad applications in my life just as STRETCH does for you. I’m eager to catch another episode soon. Cheers.

So good to see you back. I have missed your talks. You are always so organized in your notes. A lot of interesting bits today to look into. I never make NY's resolutions, but I do set goals. Last year I read 87 books and this year I'd like to try for 100. That doesn't mean rushing through them, or sacrificing content. I also want to make a quilt for each member of my family, which would be nine. I think my theme for this year will be "Enjoy".......enjoy being in the moment whilst knitting, quilting, being with family, reading, etc. Thanks for a great video. See you next time.

Hi Kristine! Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself when you slipped on ice on the sidewalk. I usually have trouble falling asleep especially during the work week and what I do is I drink a cup of Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time Tea Extra and I usually have about 6 drops of combined Lavender (for sleep & relaxation) & Peppermint (to clear nasal passages for better breathing at night) essential oils in my 500ml water-based oil diffuser which is located near the foot of the bed. Right now, I'm using the Now brand of essential oils from Natural Grocers which is okay in small spaces but so far, the best essential oil brand I've used was from DoTerra and my favorite oil blend from them is Breathe. My theme for 2019 is Let Go and I've let go of a bunch of stuff that were not being used anymore and reorganized the things that the husband and I decided to keep. Our family's goal this year is to keep things tidy and organized and to use up what we do have before purchasing new things especially when it comes to food items. That way we're hoping we won't have to throw out a bunch of food at the end of the year. Thanks for sharing your 2019 theme with us!

    Kristine-
As always another educational episode! I have never heard of slow tv but will be checking out the bird feeders. I have eight feeders and I enjoy watching them throughout the day.
My husband used to get me lavender lotions all the time to help me sleep. Finally I hinted that I had several in my nightstand and that most scents make me nauseous but that I liked vanilla. Now I have a shelf full of vanilla candles. My husband might be getting a Chinese Calligraphy set for Valentine’s Day. 😉🤫
My word this year is mindful.
    Stay safe-
    Carla

As always, full of interesting and useful information. I gave up New Year’s Resolutions years ago and also try to focus on one aspect of self improvement each year. This year: Living mindfully and finding the joy/gratitude in each moment.

as always, I so enjoyed this podcast. I use the Bath & Bodyworks Lavender and Vanilla pillow mist and really enjoy it. thanks for all the info re: the Calm app. I love your word of the year for 2019 and its' many applications. I am pondering borrowing stretch from you or adopting strengthen as my word of the year. I am recovering from a knee problem and strengthening my quad muscles is part of the recovery; but as I ponder the word, I see where there are other parts of my life where I could work on strengthening as well. I realize we are a month into 2019, thus I need to make a decision soon! wishing a great 2019 and looking forward to your upcoming podcasts

Great episode! A themed year is a wonderful idea & I am going to try it for sure! I used to study Asian arts (as a student and also professionally). I also practiced Chinese Calligraphy (it’s been a while) and as I was told while practicing one day, you can stray from hanzi/kanji and use English. You could try practicing the word “stretching” in English! If you practice enough, you will be able to frame it for 2019.

I love watching your video's for your calming voice.. I use a sleep spray for my husband occasionally I got it from Avon and he seems to get back into a better sleeping rhythm when I use it for him. I spray it onto a handkerchief that I place at the side of his pillow. I don't like to spray it direct onto my cotton sheets. Thank you for the ASMR information. It is something I had heard about but didn't know a lot of details. I will certainly look into it more. xxJane

If you go to dayspring.com (Christian website) you can answer questions to find out your “word.” I wasn’t going to do it but am thrilled that I did. My word is Peace so I’m doing a scripture study pertaining to that word. So rewarding and encouraging!!!!

Thank you for sharing your theme. I listen to binaural music at night. I am not sure of the science behind this type of music but was encouraged to listen to it to help with "busy brain" at night. I enjoy the calming music and think I am sleeping better. Keep up the good work!!

Hello Kristine. It's nice to have your smiling face back on my screen. To be honest, I never have plans or a theme for the year as we tend to lurch from one month to the next without really thinking about it. I do use Bach Rescue Remedy if I feel tense or stressed.

I purchased the therapy dough for myself and granddaughters. We love the scents and feel of the dough. I also started to listen to calming water videos. I've tried several and the ones I like best have video of rivers, lakes or oceans.

What an enjoyable episode, thank you! I love the idea of themes for the year and shall definitely be joining you with stretching. I used to have trouble sleeping and found that routine was key for me; no internet after 9.30, calming music and meditation apps etc. I also put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a handkerchief next to my pillow. I've never heard of slow tv but shall investigate. Thanks for sharing!!

I use a tabletop water fountain for the sound of running water and then I lite all natural soy candles as well. I also watch Bob Ross videos on UA-cam. I have a lavender infused neck pillow that I can heat up in the microwave to help me relax. And when I have extra money, I enjoy going to the Spa for a massage or a facial.

I love the calm app but slow T.V. I discovered recently and it was a little too slow for me. I didn't see its appeal but after hearing you talk about it I can certainly see why it would appeal to others. I too am an advocate for pillow spray.
