    Hello! I am quite an experienced knitter, but enjoy simple and quick knits. This pattern is very nice. What I really like about you is your calm, patient and clear way of explaining knitting. For circular needles, it helps to put the cable (non needle part) in a shallow bowl of hot water for a few minutes before using for the first time. This helps to soften the cable a bit and takes some of the curling out as well. Let it rest in the water a minute or so then dry with a towel. This step is not necessary, but I find it very helpful.

    I’m brand new to knitting and this looks like I could actually do it! I have never used the circular needles and I’m nervous about using them. Is there a reason why we use the circular and not the straight needles? Thanks so much for this! I’m excited to get started! Have my yarn, just have to get my needles! Happy holidays!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      Don’t fret about the circular needles. Just think of it as two separate needles and some plastic cord in the middle. You will be knitting as you would using straight needles. The plastic cord is just handy to hold all the stitches as it would be hard to get them all on one needle.
      You will see when you start.

    Because everyone is knitting during this time of isolation I cannot get circular needles the size required. What else do you recommend?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  4 роки тому

      It’s so hard getting supplies right now. Amazon is getting depleted. I have been doing online orders from Walmart. In a pinch if you have double pointed needles in size 13(9mm) then you could securely tape a 2 ft piece of cord or wire to each end of a needle to make your own circular needles. Or if you have any really long needles in that size you can try and squish them all on to fit.

    Excited to try this throw...I am a beginner and have some Red Heart Dreamy yarn which is only a 4 in terms of bulkiness. Can you tell me what I need to adjust, for example, a different needle size, number of stitches? Thank you so much!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому

      Hi Kim. Yarn can be confusing. A 4 and a bulky 4 are a totally different weight. I used a super bulky BLANKET yarn which is way heavier than your 4 weight yarn. You will be able to create the same pattern but it won’t look anything like mine. If you want suggested needle sizes for your yarn than have a look on your label and it always gives you the suggested needle size for the size of yarn. If you are just learning to knit then it is best to follow the pattern with the same yarn and needles. Then you will be happy with the results. If you really still want to chance using your yarn then you should make a little sample. Cast on 23 stitches and knit 8 rows. This will show you your gauge for how many stitches per inch. Than you can work out how many stitches you need to make a large throw.

    • @kimsewall1408
      @kimsewall1408 3 роки тому

      @@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts thanks for the quick response! The label says it is a medium 4, suggested needle size 6mm so I'm thinking that perhaps it would be better for a baby blanket. I checked out your video on the moss stitch baby blanket and there you are using bulky 5 with a 6mm needle. If I use this medium 4 with the 6mm needle, do I need to adjust the number of stitches from 108?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому

      Depends on what size you want your baby blanket. They can be almost any size you want. Receiving blankets can be 48x48, 40x40 or 36x36. Crib size is 40x60 or multi use 30x40. So just cast on the same amount of stitches and knit a few inches. See what it measures across and then if you want to make one of the baby sizes I mentioned above then knit until it measures the size you want.

    Am I reading this pattern right, by casting on 83 stitches the finished blanket will be 50 inches wide ? I'm using Bernat Baby Blanket yarn Super Bulky 6 with the size 13 Circular knitting needles. Also how many total yards of yarn do you need for a Blanket that is 50 inches wide and 60 inches in length. I'm sorry I don't mean to be a pain I'm fairly new at knitting and just want to make sure that I buy the right amount of yarn any help would be Greatly appreciated.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts

      Yes, you are reading everything correctly. Cast on 83 stitches. That will make a throw that is 50” wide. Yes for the super bulky 6 yarn and size 13 circular needles. I used 3 balls of my yarn which is 660yds.

      Hi Kim. Glad you found some yarn and needles. Let’s try 53 cast on stitches as a guesstimate. That should give you a width of about 30-34”. Just keep knitting until your desired length is achieved.

      It may be that your cast on stitches were very loose and your cast off stitches were very tight. If you used the same Bernat blanket yarn and same size needles (9mm) as mine than it should be close to the same size.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, the baby blanket yarn is much smaller than the blanket yarn I used. That’s why your blanket is smaller. I don’t worry too much if it’s acrylic or polyester. I just want the yarn to feel soft for babies. It would have been a very loose knit as well with the larger needles and a finer yarn.

      Oh dear. I hope you haven’t knit too many rows. It needs to be 83 so the ribbing works. Rows 2 & 4 start and end with a knit and row 3 starts and ends with a purl. 84 stitches will throw off the pattern.
