The original plan was it to run some kind of mobile version of Windows. That got scrapped and they switched to Android late in the game. I feel like they were okay with the s***** camera cuz initially they just figured it would be more of a zoom camera and a webcam than someone's daily driver telephone.
A year later, I got a brand new SD1 128gb for $275. Phenomenal offer. Can't wait to get it! A lot of the software bugs have been addressed and it's now updated to 12L. I still prefer this clean aesthetic compared to the SD2 with that ugly camera bump. Plan to use this as a companion device not as a primary one. That hits the sweet spot.
The issue with the att version is if you want to get it unlocked there will be issues. There's a subreddit about it and as far as now the issue is microsoft and att are pointing fingers at each other. So if you're looking to unlock it, just stick with the unlocked version. But great review bruv.

Inspired by your video, I have just ordered mine from Amazon at a steep discounted price of US$690. On the other hand, I am somehow confused by the ever-falling prices right now and wonder if the Duo 2 will be launched soon with much improved functionality and at a much reduced price tag. I still think no matter how good the Duo can be, the prices of US$1499 is way too expensive given the limited life span of any gadget. Right now, the only thing that the Duo 1 is going to bother me will be the lacking of the NFC.

Thank you sir. The LS is a nice car. Mine is an 02. I’ve had my eye on them for a while but the ones I’d find were never well kept and maintained. I found mine from an older couple in mint condition. An 02 with 85k mileage. They barely drove it. Everything was functional and the price right so I copped it. It’s a nice car. Needs a tune up but besides that it’s solid..
Great informative review. The cameras still look bad though in my opinion. In the video at the end, you looked pretty sharp, but the white balance was going all over the place. You can see the sky in the background flickering almost and the houses and water and stuff just look grainy still. It’s like the iso is bumped up all the time on this camera. The mic sounded good though! Agree with the rest of your take on it though.
For watching videos, "laptop mode" is even better than "tent mode". Leaves you with another screen that you can do things on while you watch the video.

Can you use it as a second display? I wonder if it works (plug into PC and hit Win+K to see if it pops up like other Android devices...) I see vids where it does screen mirroring at a funky aspect ratio that's a little more squarish than 16:9

That could very well be the case. We're living in a time now where you no longer have to wait until the new device to come out to get it updated. The essential phone was a great example as to what software updates can do for a device. The Duo 2 could potentially be the device of the year .
No because you can get other tablets for cheaper if your not interested in getting a device with phone capabilities. There are several windows devices that are in that price range or cheaper that should suit your needs. Now if you want the Duo it's portability than yes, it's worth it. Plus the build quality is unmatched. That said, maybe it would be worth it. This is a testiment as to how much I'm loving this device.
Man I got mine for $400 USD! It doesn’t replace my iPhone personally but it’s such an amazing companion device. Only use the iPhone when I’m out and about 😂
I don’t like Google’s Android, so the only other choice I have is iPhones. Maybe MS can make the Surface Duo....just that little bit larger so as to fit Windows 11 on there for computing needs Have phone/sms abilities and have more Android apps that are already optimized for phone/tablet touch.
Any idea how to get Google search to open on the right side screen? I can't use the thing cause it always opens on the left. Even with the Google search widget on the right side screen it opens on the left?
The problem is regular phone now have4 nearly a 1:2 aspect ratio when held in portrait mode. That's 2:1 in landscape and not the 16:9 of just a few years ago. Typing in portrait orientation is now a bitch. The virtual keyboard is too narrow for adults.
The Metadata was compromised a bit from moving the photos from the Duo to my editing software causing a slight drop in resolution. If you seen these photos on the duo itself you’d be wowed by the clarity and detail.
Surface Duo is a mini portable touchscreen laptop with pen support that can make/receive phone calls. If you care about a great camera, NFC, refresh rate, small bezels, etc. get a "traditional" smartphone. In addition to 35 million programs, Windows store has over 600,000 apps (Android has 2.8 million and Apple has 1.9 million apps). So there are PLENTY of programs/apps no matter what operating system you use. Finally, no one needs more than 6g of RAM or a top-tier processor in their Duo. If you do, get a high-end Samsung smartphone with an S Pen...
Hey I appreciate your feedback. I agree as well. The Duo isn't for everyone but for those that was serious productivity device, the Duo is it. I have the Z fold 2 as well and although they too have contracts and dealings with Microsoft, I always gravitate back to my Duo. It's unlike any other foldable .
I love my neighborhood and I just seen this at BestBuy. I loved the feel of it! But what about games and apps? I felt so boss with that phone 📞 I also didn’t like it only come with ATT and Verizon. I hate both!
It's amazing at gaming! Xbox games work too and other online platforms work. You can connect the Xbox controller and play games that way too. It's amazing
I picked it up from Best Buy and tried it for a week. The phone got confused by the orientation too much for me to justify keeping it, but it was real close for the lower price. So close. It inspired me to back and set up more app pairs on my Tab S7+.
Microsoft always pushes to get the device out then figures they can fix bugs in an update they are sad when they do that. Look at Xbox remember the red ring of death it's so sad cause I had a windows phone before my surface duo and I love the idea of windows on a phone but they just messed up most people didn't even know about this phone. Look how they just dropped the neo tablet how sad it would have been awesome and I would have bought the neo. I can't even go back to a regular phone. Damn you Microsoft for letting me fall in love this duo.

IF MS with Windows 11 gave the Surface Neo communications capabilities i.e. make phone calls, text messages etc And could fold in half to be, admittedly a fairly large phablet I wouldn’t need a separate smart phone and tablet. It’d be the ultimate personal computing/communications device on the go. (I’ll still need a laptop for more powerful stuff)

This is not a Phone its a Tablet...And what do ALL Tablets have ??? Big bezels to give you something to hold onto so your fingers don't accidently touch the screen and cause unwanted gestures when you hold it vertically. The Surface Duo is way better than the Fold3 because you have more screen while using it as a phone and more screen when using it at the tablet. Just one of the screens are so wide that it's almost the same size as the fold 3 full-screen. The camera is decent, nobody ever complains on Facebook and Instagram. The Duo is all glass unlike the fold3.

I have an Android phone but will get a Surface DUO #2 it will have features the Surface # 1 did not have that most smart phones had. the question is hw much will it cost 1500 $ I hope not but will probably buy it. if I got to pay over 500 $ for a phone I want the most I can get for the money 2 screens is OK

You can move it over. When it pops up on the left side, on the left screen swipe up and hold it, then drag it to the right side. Hope this helps..

You can "run Windows 10" via RDP or Cloud based Azure platform. Setup a good VM and you're good to go😊

Surface Duo is a mini portable touchscreen laptop with pen support that can make/receive phone calls. If you care about a great camera, NFC, refresh rate, small bezels, etc. get a "traditional" smartphone.
In addition to 35 million programs, Windows store has over 600,000 apps (Android has 2.8 million and Apple has 1.9 million apps). So there are PLENTY of programs/apps no matter what operating system you use.
Finally, no one needs more than 6g of RAM or a top-tier processor in their Duo. If you do, get a high-end Samsung smartphone with an S Pen...
Hey I appreciate your feedback. I agree as well. The Duo isn't for everyone but for those that was serious productivity device, the Duo is it. I have the Z fold 2 as well and although they too have contracts and dealings with Microsoft, I always gravitate back to my Duo. It's unlike any other foldable .

I love my neighborhood and I just seen this at BestBuy. I loved the feel of it! But what about games and apps? I felt so boss with that phone 📞 I also didn’t like it only come with ATT and Verizon. I hate both!
You can get it unlocked and use it with T-Mobile if that's your carrier. It's dirt cheap unlocked right now at best buy..
It's amazing at gaming! Xbox games work too and other online platforms work. You can connect the Xbox controller and play games that way too. It's amazing
I picked it up from Best Buy and tried it for a week. The phone got confused by the orientation too much for me to justify keeping it, but it was real close for the lower price. So close. It inspired me to back and set up more app pairs on my Tab S7+.
It can still be a little finiky at times but it's much better than what it was before. It was pretty much unusable when it 1st launched.
I doubt they perform updats on the display model

Microsoft always pushes to get the device out then figures they can fix bugs in an update they are sad when they do that. Look at Xbox remember the red ring of death it's so sad cause I had a windows phone before my surface duo and I love the idea of windows on a phone but they just messed up most people didn't even know about this phone. Look how they just dropped the neo tablet how sad it would have been awesome and I would have bought the neo. I can't even go back to a regular phone. Damn you Microsoft for letting me fall in love this duo.
I just got my Surface Duo a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I'm so happy I waited because I only paid $750 for the 256GB version unlocked.

And could fold in half to be, admittedly a fairly large phablet I wouldn’t need a separate smart phone and tablet.
It’d be the ultimate personal computing/communications device on the go. (I’ll still need a laptop for more powerful stuff)

It can't complete with the Fold 3. Looks very dated with terrible camera & big bezels. Bad effort for such a big company.
This is not a Phone its a Tablet...And what do ALL Tablets have ??? Big bezels to give you something to hold onto so your fingers don't accidently touch the screen and cause unwanted gestures when you hold it vertically.
The Surface Duo is way better than the Fold3 because you have more screen while using it as a phone and more screen when using it at the tablet. Just one of the screens are so wide that it's almost the same size as the fold 3 full-screen. The camera is decent, nobody ever complains on Facebook and Instagram. The Duo is all glass unlike the fold3.

But the original concept was for the Surface Duo to be mainly a tablet to make phone calls with, not the other way around.
