Lyrics: When the signals were green Did you sit by the line And watch for the fire in the sky Then a scream and a roar And a shivering ground And old Oliver Cromwell goes by Did you fancy your hand At the throttle and brake With the steam driven into your soul Or to stand with the driving wheels Under your feet And shovel a mountain of coal Well they’ve silenced the whistle The coal is all burned They’ve buried the ashes for good They’ve torn up the loop And there’s only a scare To show where the water-crane stood But the birch and the elder Still follow the track Standing black in the smoke and the rain And the poor little sheep With a smouldering back Runs away at the sound of a train O Britannias and Jubilees Compounds and Crabs Have been taken away from the shed And along with clipper The coach and the cab They speak of an age that is dead For some are away To be mounted and stuffed While others are butchered and sold And the steam raiser’s gone For the very last time And his brazier’s broken and cold Well I’ve given me kettle and me old tin can To a lad for a souvenir And I’d trade in me shove for twenty fags Or the price of a bottle of beer For the Scotsman has come To the end of his run And Mallard is cold as the stone Their story is over, the giants are dead And the jackals are picking the bones
This song represents that nothing lasts forever steam engines were seen as revolutionary especially Mallard and the Scotsman look at today E2s and J70s and various others are gone just like any fads that were huge at one point. Or it’s just a sad song about locomotives that represents nothing

Lyrics:
When the signals were green
Did you sit by the line
And watch for the fire in the sky
Then a scream and a roar
And a shivering ground
And old Oliver Cromwell goes by
Did you fancy your hand
At the throttle and brake
With the steam driven into your soul
Or to stand with the driving wheels
Under your feet
And shovel a mountain of coal
Well they’ve silenced the whistle
The coal is all burned
They’ve buried the ashes for good
They’ve torn up the loop
And there’s only a scare
To show where the water-crane stood
But the birch and the elder
Still follow the track
Standing black in the smoke and the rain
And the poor little sheep
With a smouldering back
Runs away at the sound of a train
O Britannias and Jubilees
Compounds and Crabs
Have been taken away from the shed
And along with clipper
The coach and the cab
They speak of an age that is dead
For some are away
To be mounted and stuffed
While others are butchered and sold
And the steam raiser’s gone
For the very last time
And his brazier’s broken and cold
Well I’ve given me kettle and me old tin can
To a lad for a souvenir
And I’d trade in me shove for twenty fags
Or the price of a bottle of beer
For the Scotsman has come
To the end of his run
And Mallard is cold as the stone
Their story is over, the giants are dead
And the jackals are picking the bones
Thank you for doing these, thought about doing it myself but I am pretty busy as of lately so I can't put as much effort in these as I'd like to
@@songsonguitars You’re welcome, man.
this has helped me so much and will help me SO much in a few minutes, thank you

Please never get rid of these! Absolutely brilliant!
Never planning to, here they will be to stay forever.
Imagine if Dave made a song about The railway series.
Hmmm. Y'know, I wish he did, or in some thomas fan film they use this song.
Absolutely lovely song, especially those who have toiled on these labors of love.

Thanks, man. I knew something was different about this version. Do you know where I can find the 2008 version?
@@DieselD7101 A channel called CFRailway has it
@@DieselD7101 there's the other version on UA-cam I think. don't quote me
@@spyfan62591 ya there is, but someone put a film of there models over it so the sound of the models can be heard in the recording
@@captainhuggyface6731 yeah, there's also a version of it with thomas the tank engine clips behind it. But it censored the cigarette slang
❤❤❤❤ train
You find out it's the end of diesel and steam.
This is seriously one of the saddest songs i've ever heard. That might be my rail enthusiast and TTTE bias.
Coukd you upload the 2008 version please?
This is the version I got on the CD, I do not know of any other versions.
