  • Stop getting water droplets on your GoPro lens by using a lighter and burning the hydrophobic lens off. It would be best if you did this at your own risk and I am sure it will help you get clearer and better clips with this new epic camera.

    Footage looks great! Did you do anything with previous generation GoPros to help with water droplets?

      Before the 9 you can just lick it because it doesn’t have the film. They added the hydrophobic film on the 9 and after

      When they started the interchangeable lens, the 9 wasnt hydrophobic… they 10 was. I was just using the 9 always.

    It looks top !!! Just saw your video. Happy it works for you
    Did you do it on Max Lens 2.0 ? cause that's the one I prefer
    Thanks for help

      I’ve just started using the Max Lens 2.0 and I did the same thing and worked super well. Worth giving it a try.
      Put out a video last week about it. Check the footage and let me know.

      @@iaincampbell_hello ! I am trying to burn off the hydrophobic film but the problem is that i don’t know whether it is gone or still here can’t see it fading away and 2, even though i don’t leave the fire too much on the lens i still see the plastic frame of the lens burning a bit (it’s not smooth as it was) and i don’t know if that’s okay or not so i’m kinda scared. Do you have any tips ?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  3 місяці тому

      @@yassinebenabdelfatteh691 I would suggest holding the lighter there for short periods. Not long enough to cause the plastic to melt. You can always order another lens as they aren’t too expensive. But try burning it and adding spit to the lens overnight. It takes a while for the coating to get taken off so it may require a few tries.

    Thank you for this. I actually thought my problem was that the hydrophobic properties had gotten ruined on my GoPro, not the other way around. I literally have just ordered some hydrophobic spray, so that was maybe a waste of money. Oh well. Appreciate the knowledge and the great boogie content.

    Thanks for the tip? Do you also lick the lens during surfing? If so, how often do you have to lick it?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  2 місяці тому

      Yes I do! I usually lick it every 1-3 waves. Depending on when I really need to.

    So you basically just burn the lense then spit and leave it over night? And that works for the hero 12 right? Have to try it out because I always get water droplets on my lense mid ride.

    I have been burning the film off the last few years, sometimes I accidentally melted the gasket and water would get inside the lens so you have to be careful not to do that. Also might be a good idea to twist the lens off the camera before burning it in case of accidentally burning the camera itself. More recently (after melting the gasket on 2 lens covers) I tried using it without burning it and I’ve found that if you dip the camera and lift it vertically out of the water no drops stick. If its windy or you splash the camera a bunch this doesn’t work super well because new water gets on the camera. For clean conditions it work pretty good

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  8 місяців тому

      My problem is when you’re riding it’s not always dipping. Easier to burn it carefully. And you can always take that gasket off…

    You can do the same lighter trick with a new diving mask to stop it from fogging up. There is normally a plastic layer on the inside that needs to be removed.

    Maybe a heatgun could be more safe to remove film...

    • @RIK_JAMES420_POV
      @RIK_JAMES420_POV 8 місяців тому

      You have to go pretty hard with a naked flame on and off for it to work and I’m not sure the heat gun would cut it. Plus you can kinda navigate the flame of a lighter over the lens apposed to just blasting the seals with heat as well
