Yes amazing in every way. Including his tone. My experience has been it is very difficult to mic acoustic steel string guitar in a way that allows flat picking of melodic ideas to sound appealing. He (or his sound tech buddies) do it well enough so even a video posted on a non-music specific forum allows it to sound good.
Tommy is one of my guitar heroes! I've been playing for 56 years and in my opinion he is one of the all time best acoustic guitarists ever!

+VlotoMog I agree or at least do not limit your imitation to Tommy alone. The more people we copy the more of a rich recipe that becomes our own style.

Really funny! But I think there is one failure. Tommy doesn't need to practice anymore these days. He simply plays. No matter where or when. In his case I wouldn't call that practice.

How can you not love this guy. Saw him live at a little theater in Lawrence KS, absolutely amazing. If your heart doesn't sing when you hear him play you don't have a pulse. Every day is better with a little Tommy in it.

He uses the imperfections of the guitar so well. Doesn’t need to edit out all of the scraping of the strings. Doesn’t need to make the bass notes or treble louder. This is why I love Tommy!

Thank you Tommy for the free songs and your time that you give - not just for yourself playing songs we love - but for worthy causes such as this. It is one thing to be great. It is quite another to be greater by giving your time for worthy causes.
I can't prevent getting a smile on my face, when I see him play. He is so sympathetic, so enthusiastic, you can see and hear the joy for what he does in every note he plays. It's just fun to hear and see him play and his skills are outstanding. Nice!!!

Two years ago, I've been very lucky to see him in Paris (Olympia concert hall); he opened for Johnny Winter (as a substitute for Alvin Lee who had passed away the week before...)
He ruined the whole evening in a 20 minute showcase : compared to him, anyone comin' on the stage with a guitar in hand, looked disabled!...
He's a true genius and a real, plain and modest gentleman.
Getting TE for 'opening act' to a guitar performance is the biggest mistake you can make.
Perhaps better J. W. should have been the opener for him...?

Pound for pound he's one of greatest guitarists out there. What's so beautiful about his playing there are no pedal effects just amazing skill and imagination.
My dad told me today about him and im only been watching him for 2min and he is amazing i wish i could play my guitar like that
TE is one of the few people so incredibly familiar with a guitar that he can use every single sound the entire thing can produce to his musical advantage, including pretty much every possible string technique. Truly a living legend!

Tommy's secret is simple; a shit ton of hours of practice to have his skills, a handful of talent and dedication with passion... ohh also some other minor things that you can buy like reverb, delay, strings... ect
With regard to effects you are thinking of some other guitarists who hide behind the effects.

There are COUNTLESS good versions of this signature theme (Eric, Mark, Igor, Tommy, Snowman)..but the really cool thing is the originality and freshness every one of them brings to their strings..a true testament of the quality, longevity and universal appeal that Hank must have hoped for when writing the theme. Same goes for Baby Elephant Walk, too..just good , okd fashioned FUN! Neer goes out of style, does it??

@@4rchim3d3s no way. Jimmy couldn't play half the stuff Emmanuel can. Emmanuel can play everything Page has come up with. Emmanuel is basically playing three guitar licks, sometimes four at the same time. His brain is incredible that he can keep all parts going and sound amazing at the same time and on an acoustic. So easy to hide mistakes when you crank up the distortion on an electric.

+Eddy Tan The guitar is a Maton. That "soundhole block" is a specialized acoustic guitar pickup / mic.

+Eddy Tan Anonymoose was partly right: the guitar is a custom Maton EBG808TE and the black piece of rubber on the soundhole is a feedback buster, which eliminates feedback when using the microphone and pickup. It basically blocks the hole to stop sound from coming out. TE Admin

A friend of mine used to host a backyard acoustic guitar players weekend in his backyard we all played. I JUST found out tommy emanuel was there i didnt see him play that day but i recall talking to him. No idea who he was at the time. Wow. I would have stayed....
