- While looking from the outside, it may seem daunting, once you understand what's going on rebuilding your 8.8" rear diff is relatively straightforward. Our resident expert Jamie Bell is here to tell us all about setting up your rear end to put power down properly without excessive wear or noise. Pinion depth, bearing preload, backlash, and reading gear contact patterns are all covered in this video.

Can i use this video and info for the obs ford truck 8.8 i want to regear my 1993 ford f150 but dont know if its all the same or not thank you 😅
If you're talking the rear, yes you can! This process covers 1982-2012 F-150s with an 8.8" so you're good to go. If you're wondering about 4WD, the front axle is a completely different process.

my Mustang come with the 2 solid differential shims it's only to shims on each side. Can I replace them with the shims it came with the kit, it has a whole bunch of them in there, or do I need to get the original shims from a dealer?
You can replace the original shims if you have a size that works for you. The original shims are a baseline to help you find the correct sizing if you have a new set. For this video we did not have the originals, so we had to guess on an initial measurement and go from there.
