AWESOME!!! I was arguing recently with some parents of wrestlers here in Pittsburgh, PA in the last year of jr. high about dialing back to some granular walk-through detail in solo drills...while I still have time to slow down and polish up basics before varsity, even if it's not 100% fun. I will be using this video to get them to listen. Thanks.
Sweep Single is my best move. I used to teach it like this, but then I realized there is something different happening besides your lead leg taking a knee and trail leg sweeping. You need to actually transfer the energy from your power step into a hip movement similar to the tail end of a hip-heist, except your body is vertical instead of horizontal.
great explanation. I didn't realise that stuff about toe angles. I still feel like my outside sweep single shot is really slow and weak compared to my double.
The left handed stance is better for a few reasons! 1. It's unorthodox. * Making your attacks on the opposite side than than the typical wrestler * Your finishes and set-ups are harder to defend * Single legs are easier to get to against righty opponents (the single leg is the highest percentage takedown) 2. If you are right dominant then your right leg should be stronger. Wrestling lefty puts you power leg in the back. This leg is your power on shots! 3. It helps Multi-Sport Athletes who are right handed. * Boxers, baseball players, etc etc lead with their left leg! If you are right dominant and lead left leg, your stance translates to other sports better.
