Thanks so much for this video, and especially, your operator manual on your web site! The camera may be a fine product, I just got it today, but the writer of the pamphlet simply cannot communicate in English. Your sites are a tremendous help! Thanks!
Thank you very much for your video. The manual is very helpful I was very disappointed with the camera when it arrived but with your help, it's working to my delight. Thank you again.
I, also, thank you for this video. You have done more to educate me on this camera than I could have learned myself in a 3 month period. Your re-written manual was a god send for me too. The original manual was written with a Chinese dialect. I can now proceed to using this camera. Thank you once again. Central Iowa, U.S.A.
Thanks for the video and the instructions. Very helpful. Though I must point out the night vision on the camera I got was way better than yours. It picked up a good 10ft away or so. Maybe an improved version of it.
Hey wanted to say this is amazing. i bought this camera along time ago and never used it because the instructions were trash. I found it again and decided to search you tube and came across your video. Thank you for putting in the effort for this.
I thought my camera was defective, but was just because I was trying to decipher the horribly written manual. Thank you for taking the time to write one and provide it to everyone for free. I was planning to keep it connected to power and use as cheap trail cam in my back yard to see if the deer are still coming by when I'm not looking, but couldn't figure out the motion detection setting from the instructions in the box. Thank you!
Just received two yesterday. This UA-cam video and good instruction manual are a God send. Thank you very much. I purchased them as a potential security cameras. Appears to be money well spent.
@Dr Bre et al: Try formatting the SD card to Fat32. Otherwise, the cube plays dead. At least that did the trick for me. Took me ages too find out. Now the camera works pretty well. Curious to see if it works for you. @Meisech: Thank you very much for this exquisite video. Finally, I understand. True, the manual is not worth the paper it's printed on. I asked a chinese friend and it doesn't even make sense in Chinese. Edit: I was actually very surprised that the camera had a microphone. I don't recall it being a documented feature. Guess I'm lucky with my unit because I find the sound quality pretty acceptable. Only thing that really bothers me is this silly proprietary USB connector. Why? Oh Why?
Thankyou for the time and effort that you have put in explaining the use of this little camera, as said the Chinglish manual leaves a lot to be desired.. I got mine yesterday and spent much time searching the 'net for information on it and I can honestly say that yours is the best and clearest that I found. Many, many thanks.
Thank you so much Meisech for your superb work! You even went in your car to test the camera on these conditions - WUAOOO! From all reviews I've seen about this little camera, your's is the best (IMHO) !
@@Meisech I'm still learning how to work with this little camera, but without your updated manual I'll probably had already given up from this adventure....
Your manual is a great help. The included version is not only written in Chinenglish but the type is so small you need a magnifier to read it. I bought 3 (three) of these cameras from Ali Express for a total of $7 (seven dollars).
How wonderful. I'd set this device aside for several months because of the indecipherable (to me) instructions. Before this video was half way through, I'd made a movie !! Thank you... and those instructions... WOW!
Thank you so much! The Chinese English manual was so minute in font size and so uncomprehendable to understand after using a magnifying glass- so thanks for that as well! Really appreciate
Thank you for deciphering the "impossible" manual. However I have a problem. I start the video and it works for about 5 seconds then the picture freezes. It still seems to be recording sound just no picture. Any suggestions before I throw it in the bin?
Defective camera like many fake SQ11. I guess it's not a Quelima. I'm afraid there is nothing to do. The only thing I can suggest is to change the SD card. If the problem persists, then the camera is definitely the problem.
Thank you for this very well executed review of this camera. I purchased two and one seems to get pretty warm when plugged in. It never seems to achieve charging mode as I have yet to see the red light blink when I plug it in, or a solid red when charging is supposedly finished, just a solid blue all the time. Perhaps that is why it gets hot, the charge is continuous and it overcharges. The second camera, I am in contact with the seller to replace as it only loops through the boot sequence. Not the best quality cameras, but for the money and using them for specific uses, they seem to be ok.
Yes, indeed, it seems that there are a lot of problems with this camera, mine included. This is a mass production without any final quality control. If you're lucky, you'll get a flawless camera.
Thank you for the clear/concise review. I'm still having trouble with mine since it only records a 5-minute video then sleeps, kinda useless if this is the case.. Will try to fully charge this before trying it again.
THANK YOU!!!! for the clear instructions. I got my camera and had a hell of a time understanding the english instructions they sent with the camera. Their english instructions was poorly written. Thank you again! I was so frustrated , I almost threw the camera away!
thanks for taking the time to make instruction a us person can read and understand, this made everything make sense to operate. Again thank you for taking the time to learn in a language i understand. thanks Eddie
Just want to reiterate what everyone else is saying, thank you SO much for doing this video AND writing up a new manual. Saved me a TON of time. You're awesome!
Meisech, Thanks for the in-depth review and manual provided Btw.... regarding the Charging instructions, The last sentence that explains "You can also connect the camera to an external power source...." Would we be able to charge and record at the same time with this setup?? Thanks in advance
Yes. The camera is specially designed to act as a dashcam. This means that as soon as the camera is connected to an external power supply (for example a USB car charger), the battery is charging and recording starts automatically. When the external power is turned off (car engine is turned off), recording stops and the last video clip is saved on the card.
Thank you for the the view, it was quite useful. I am planing to use this ca,are to record some animals at night, do you think if I add an external IR light source it would work better? Regards
If you really want to observe animals in the night, I suggest to buy a more professional camera, especially designed for those purposes. I don't think that the SQ11 will correctly work even with an external IR source.
I just got mine and was impressed by the quality, especially considering the tiny size and low price. I intend to try mine with an external Ir source for night vision
Thanks for this. I bought a couple of these cameras but I’m still not convinced they work properly, your instructions will be much easier to follow so I can test this.
Thank you for a nice readable manual ….first recording did not work after... 2 hours of trying...now i know that the Blue led is standby...and NO light it is recording ! wow !..what a fine original manual..! :)
had no idea it had audio. got 2 for $12 each. Inserting the mini SD is VERRRY finicky, could not figure out why it kept turning off after flashing through the modes - did not realize until I connected it to my pc and it said 'insert card' that the card was not in correctly - it felt like it was firmly in. You have to insert it (logo side up) on a downward slant to ensure it seats into the little slot inside. If in doubt, connect it to your computer and as soon as the card seats you will get a popup that the computer is reading it. Mine started playing 2 short accidental videos automatically. VERY good video!
Grazie mille. It seems easier to learn the Cinese Laguage than to read their English. But luckily you did our HomeWork, thanks again from Tuscany (Dutch).
Thank very much, do you think 32 GB memory card is enough? , And for how long camera can work on battery? Does it stay working for long time on motion detection mode?.. Thank you very much sir
The maximum capacity of the SD card that the camera can process is 32Gb. The size of the sequences vary depending on the light source. The recording of a 5 minute sequence during the day is 800-900Mb. The total recording time depends on the condition of the battery, normally 1 hour. Note that the files are recorded in a loop. This means that when the card is full, the oldest file will be overwritten. As I have never done this test, I cannot tell you how long the battery lasts in motion detection mode.
Thanks for this review! I am curious if, in your reviews and opinion, is there a camera better than this one that carries all the same pros but less cons..? I’m willing to pay more. I got mine for $8 us
It's very difficult to say! It always depends on your needs. Of all the cameras I have tested, there are three that I particularly like: The SQ20, SQ23 and Peztio 1080p. But as I always say if you want to use a camera for security, nothing can replace a real WiFi surveillance camera.
thank you so much for this video, i had a lot of questions before watching this video but i still have one question left in motion detector mode, if the battery is fully charged, how longer it will take the battery to drain out? i mean if i used it as a security camera when i'm away for a week or so, can i set it on motion detector mode to stay long time and record only when something moving ? please reply ASAP because i want to order it
I have never tested how long the battery lasts if it is only in motion detection, but I think the consumption is similar to normal use. I suggest connecting it to an external power supply. Moreover, if you want to use the camera as a surveillance camera, I suggest instead to get a real surveillance camera, like the 'Xiaomi Dafang' or the 'Xiaomi Hualei' (see videos), which is accessible via app from any place in the world. In my opinion, the SQ11 is only partially usable as a security camera.
Good video detailing this cameras shortcomings. I'm planning to use it as a rear facing car cam alongside a good quality dashcam. Its small enough to miss and wont obscure your view, my only problem is mounting it without a suction cup.
Excellent review! No "BS" just fact! Just got ours in the mail today. How to attach it in my car would have helped. That little clamp is OK inside at my desk, but I guess I have to invent an adapter. We bought this just for fun on Wish...took forever to get here, but for the price, it's OK! Thank you for the "improved" instructions.
Thx Meisech for such a thorough review & your effort with the manual. I see you reply to everyone too... excellent. I am delighted to subscribe. Can the SQ11 be used as a parking-assist camera attached to the front bumper. using the RCA to a monitor on the dash and the camera powered by the 5V USB I have in my car?
I just did the test. It is possible to connect the camera to a monitor using the RCA jack and even to record. However, it is not possible to connect the camera to an external source and at the same time to a monitor. When connected to an external source, the camera is only in charge mode and there is no signal transmitted to the monitor.
Plugged in the camera to the computer to charge and I can't get it to blink red to show it is charging. Directions are very clear and informative. Wish I could print them
Thank you for the detailed video. I am having problems connecting to a laptop running windows 10, I have tried 3 laptops and all of them have the same problem. The lap top will not recognise the device. Is there external drivers that i can download have you any suggestions??
What you can do to be sure if any driver for the SQ 11 is installed : Go to that link : www.cyanscorpion.com/cg035-software-and-manual.html and download the USBDview 64bit, connect the camera and check if the General-UVC driver is listed. If so, everything should work normally. Else, try to install the driver manually from this link : www.driverscape.com/download/general---uvc
hello from uk,,,,,brilliant youre version of manual.BUT. can night vision and motion detect be used together?i cant seem to get it to function,,thanking you jimmy
Hey! great effort on the manual, thanks. I am planning to use this as a simple playback device, can I play back the video via usb to composite or is it just live view? Many thanks
No, playback is not possible via USB. You can only watch the recorded files on the SD-card. If you want to use the camera for live viewing, you need a program like the 'Debut Video Software'. Else you can connect the camera directly to the AV input of your TV.
Good review sir, crisp and clear. I have one myself, and I don't like the NON flashing led WHEN RECORDING.... "Is it working or not???" Anyway, when it connects to the external power source, the camera starts recording automatically, that is exactly what we want in a dashcam setup, BUT, it starts in 720p mode, and of course we want it to record in 1080p automatically. Do you know if there is a way to get that setup?
Unfortunately, the camera always starts in 720p. The only thing you can do is to stop the recording and switch to 1080p mode. Maybe there exists a method to start the camera directly in 1080p mode, but I think you have to change the settings in the firmware, which is not possible in my opinion as you don't have the source code.
Same with IR lights, you must switch them on MANUALLY, and when you restart the camera (when reconnecting to USB power)the setting is lost. Furthermore, it seems to be imposible to change settings with the buttons when the camera is charging at USB power ....... NOT COOL.....
Yes I know. One hint : if you setup the camera before connecting to an external power source, you do not need to set again the same parameters. Example : Power the camera, switch to 1080p, than connect the camera to an external power source. The camera will directly begin to record in 1080p. In USB charging mode (computer), you can only push the on/off button to switch between the webcam function and the external storage device.
Hey, thanks so much for this manual! Though i can't seem to get mine to work. I think it's the SD card? Does it have to be partitioned with NTFS or FAT32? When i press on for 2 sec, i get blue LED. When press on/off once, i get blue LED blinking ~3 seconds, then red+blue for about 6/7 seconds? Then it just turns off
As the maximum card capacity cannot exceed 32Gb, it must be formatted in Fat32. Different possibilities regarding the LED code: either the card exceeds 32GB or the card is not detected, or because the card is damaged or the slot connectors are bent.
Thank you very much to make this easier! I was wondering so if there is no card, this camera wouldn't work, right? and is it possible to connect this to my phone? I have an adroid.
You can connect the camera to a computer without a card inserted. Nevertheless if you want to record some stuff, you need software installed on your computer like the 'Debut Video Capture Software'. On battery, without a card inserted, the camera will shut down after a few seconds. Connected to a power source without card, the camera will only charge. I don't know if it's possible to connect the camera to a smartphone. If it works, you need an UC-E6 USB to micro USB/USB-C OTG adapter. You also need a specific app that recognizes your camera. But in my opinion, it will not work. You can use the camera as a security cam. You need to connect the RCA connector to the composite video input of a TV for example. But for this configuration it is not possible to record, you can only watch live images.
Simple connect the micro-USB connector to the camera and the yellow RCA connector to the video input socket on your TV. If you don't have a video input socket, you can also use a SCART input, but you need a SCART/RCA adapter.
Thank you for the manual!!!! It is true that the original manual is completely useless. However, I can not make it work while connected to a wall charger. As soon as I connect the charger, the camera powers off. Is there a trick?
Normally it should work. With a card inserted, as soon as you connect the camera to an external power source, the recording begins. Visual : a blue LED is visible, then a red LED and again a blue LED. After that, the LED is off and recording is in progress. To stop recording, push the on/off button briefly. Now a red LED is visible again indicating that the camera is in charge.
A quick question if I wish to use it as a Car DV, and I set it up with my car power source which is there when I turn on my car. Do I need to turn on the camera every time I turn on my car? I read in the manual about Record while charging but doesn't know how it works. Is it possible to use it just by entering the 1080P mode for one time during setup and then forget about it and let it keep recording (fine with 5mins video sequences) whenever there is charge it starts recording again in the same 1080p mode without me need to turn it on every time when I enter the car! If that's possible what happens when the camera battery dies out overnight as the car is parked and the camera automatically turns off, will it start recording the same way the moment it sees the power the next morning when I start to drive? If this happens then it's worth installing in the car or else there's no point setting this as car dashcam!
When you connect the camera to an external power source, whether it's a power bank, a charger, or an USB car charger, the camera will turn on and start recording in 720p. Unfortunately it does not record automatically in 1080p. For a 1080p recording, you need to change manually in this mode. Note that as soon as you stop the engine and the camera is no longer powered up, recording stops, the last clip is saved, and the camera turns off. At the next restart of your car, the camera turns on, and start recording again in 720p. The problem does not arise if you have a permanent power supply in your car. The camera will continuously record 5-minute footage and will overwrite the oldest file.
In charge mode, when it does not record or when there is no card inserted, it must flash red. If a card is inserted, it first flashes red a few times, then blue, then it goes out and it records at the same time as it loads. Anyway, when the camera is recording, no LED is on. You can not record when the camera is connected to an USB port on a PC. On an USB port, card inserted or not, it should always flash red. Maybe there is a problem with the SD card or worse, the camera is not working correctly.
THE BEST review in the entire youtube and THE BEST manual on the internet!!! Great job brother!!! I have one and it works perfecctly. But my question is, is there anyway to connect the camera to a phone using the cables and take live feed with a third party app???
It is entirely possible to connect the camera to a smartphone using an OTG adapter. The 'USB debugging' option must also be activated in the 'Developer' settings. The camera will then be known as 'GENPLUS USB drive'. It is then possible to view the files located on the camera's SD card. However, I was unable to display the live image from the camera on my smartphone, even using the 'USB Camera Pro' app. This app detects the camera, but cannot initialize it.
Update. I managed to display a live image from the camera on my smartphone with the 'USB CAMERA PRO' app. For this I had to remove the SD card. You must also take into account having a USB cable as well as a good quality OTG adapter and that there is no interruption of contact of the different elements between the camera and the smartphone.
Meisech SQ12 Waterproof but not from the 2 mentionned. Ordered by Ali and received from Singapore. But, it's the same packaging and it's not a Quelima !!!Did not tried yet the nocturn vision. Come back later.
It seems there are different people producing this camera. QUELIMA seems to be the best of them. Most of unbranded ones have heating, battery, and picture quality problems. The bad ones often have a silverish front screen around the LEDs, while the least bad ones have a shiny black screen.
The camera is produced by only one factory, only the name of the distributors is changing. The same process is used for many items found on the internet, especially items from China. So for example the toy drone Eachine E56 is also known as the JJRC H47. Same for most of action cams produced in China. Of course, the camera evolves with time, issues are corrected, new firmwares are written.
That was an informative answer. There is another video on youtube of two sq11 models with slight comestic differences, one simply refused to work while the other did a pretty decent job.
I recently bought another one, it was a copy. The video quality was extremely low, any cheap webcam would do much better. The bracket to attach it on its base broke in seconds. It looks like knock offs of this camera exist, I am now sure.
Hello. The video seems very helpful. Although I followed your instructions I cannot record in 1080 quality. Once i press the mode button it goes to picture mode and not to 1080 quality. Only red light is light on and not both Blue and red. what am i doing wrong. Thank you
In my opinion the problem lies with the electronics. I think the signal emanating from the 'mode' button is misinterpreted. Maybe try pushing the 'mode' button very briefly to switch to 1080p mode. If the problem persists I suggest to disassemble the camera to see if the problem is not inside. Pay attention do not touch the electronics with your fingers. Wear gloves if possible.
Hello, I'm from Peru, I'm waiting to purchase a SQ11 camera. As for recording in night vision, which camera is better?, An QQ5 angular, QQ6, SQ8, SQ9 or SQ11 ?.
Excellent review sir. It was very thorough. I was actually amazed by the "black dot sun" you pointed out. Just a few questions though: 1. Is there a mode for loop recording? 2. There are no audible beeps involved right? 3. There is no desktop user interface to manage the settings?
Thank you for your interest. Interesting questions : 1) Indeed, when the SD card is full, the camera will overwrite the oldest file. 2) There is no audiable beep when an action is taken. 3) At my knowledge, there exists no software to manage the settings of the SQ11. You still can use a webcam software, but the result is very poor. I will add these remarks to the manual.
Well, I'm enjoying with some help of people like you that share things :-). Meisech, did you tried to record in "movement detection" with the camera connected to the wall charger? Or it only works with the internal battery? I tried to record with the charger connected with no succes.
No. It's not working in motion detection. Record about 5 minutes only, connected or not to the charger. I believe is a problem with this particular unit, I tried several times with no results. I reset the unit but the problem remains the same. I already asked them to replace it or refound me, I don't know... may be
Normally it should work. Directly after you have activated the motion detection, a scene of a few seconds to 1 minute is recorded on the SD-card. After that the camera is going in standby mode. Do not move the camera and do not not move in front of the lens for a few minutes. After this waiting time make a new try : move now in front of the camera or move the camera itself. The camera is triggered and it is recording this movement. When a perpetual movement is detected, the camera will record a scene of maximum 5 minutes, after that it is going again in stanby mode. Another issue could be the light conditions. Try to place the camera on another location and repeat the action. If it is still not working correctly, then you have definitely a problem.
Hi, I have a question. How long will this camera stay on stand by when motion detection is enabled? How long will it be ready to record when it's closed in dark room without any motion (energy isn't a problem, it can be connected to power bank) .
As long as the camera is connected to an external power source, the motion detection remains active. On battery : as long as the battery last. Motion detection in a dark room with this tiny cheap camera is a little difficult in my opinion. Motion detection is normally triggered when an object is moving in front of the camera. The IR LEDs are not powerful enought to draw a clear image of the room. So the main problem with the motion detection in a dark room with the SQ11 is the video noise which can be interpreted as an object, thus the camera will also record every detected video noise.
Thanks from Japan for a very honest review, and (especially!) for the retranslated manual. A question on the files: it seems they cannot be deleted, correct? Or is this just a feature of my particular SD card?
Normally you should be able to manage the files on the card, even to delete them. When you connect the camera via the provided USB cable, a mass storage driver will be installed and you can edit your files directly from the created drive. If you use an micro-SD card adapter to mange your files, make sure that the small switch on the adapter is not set to 'lock'.
Thanks for speedy reply! Unfortunately, I bought two of these crappy cams. Are both charged, with SD card inserted, both work fine as per your info, connected to a TV, the video is present and recording. As soon as I connect the charger, both shuts down, no video output. I have tried with two different wall chargers, one with 5V/2A and one with 5V/1A, no difference.
Ok I understand. You want to keep the camera on an external power source, record or play and at the same time and display an image on the TV. I will check this out. I let you know.
I can only confirm what you have already discovered. The camera does not display an image on the TV when it is connected to an external power source. But when only connected to the battery, you can use the camera to watch and/or record at the same time.
Thank you! It means that this camera could be used only on battery as a dash cam or spy cam. What a crappy design! I often wonder if the Chinese could make even worse quality and I realize that there is no limit to it.
Meisech, Thank you very much for the excellent video and five gold stars from Sunday School for the manual translation. I just got mine and have not used it except to try short video inside my house with 128gb SD card, it worked but was very dark reproduction even with much outside light coming in, in the middle of the day. I will try with loop recording later. Again, Merci.
You're welcome. I am very surprised that you can put a 128Gb card in the camera, as the the manual suggest a card with a maximum capacity of 32Gb. Maybe recent SQ11 cameras are able to manage high capacity SD-cards. Unfortunately, I can not test the camera with a 128 GB card because the maximum capacity of most of my cards is only 32 GB.
Thanks a lot. Very good effort to decode the Chinese English. But in your reworked manual i didn't find Video out mode. Pl tell how to use the yellow cable given with mini usb cable. I couldn't play the video in TV. Thank you.
Incredible explanation👍. Sir if i use it as spy cam in car connecting to powerbank( 20,000mah), with motion detection, with 32gb card. How many days it might work if there is 1 hour video..pls reply..
Sorry, I can't tell you how long the battery last when the camera is in motion detection mode. I do not know how much the camera consumes in this mode, but I think with a 20A power bank it will operate for a very long time. It is also depending how often a motion is detected. In normal use, normally with one battery charge, the camera can record continuously approx 1 hour. So, with a 20A power bank it can continuously record approx, 100 hours.
The camera was working fine yesterday, but today none of the footage is being transferred to the SD card. The SD cards fine as i used it with my other camera. Would you have any idea where the footage would be stored? Thanks!
It will be difficult to locate the problem. Normally the footage is only recorded on the SD-card, nowhere else. A few solutions : maybe you should reformat the card, change the SD-card, verify if none of the connectors of the card slot is broken or damaged. Try to format the card and verify if a timestamp file is written on the card. If the timestamp is written but not the video footage, it could be possible that the electronic components of the camera fails.
Your video is very helpfull and I guess lot of people manage to record with this camera but I didn't manage to record anything on my memory card. After i turn on the camera and the blue light is on when i press again the on/off button it flashes 8 times blue and red light and the camera turns of. I have two of these cameras and both do the same thing. I don't understand what I am doing wrong.
First, the camera must already be equipped with a micro-SD card not exceeding 32Gb. Normally when you turn on the camera, the LED is blue. A short press on the power button starts recording. The blue LED should flash several times and then go out. Recording is in progress. Another short press and recording stops. The LED is blue again. The only time I was able to simulate your situation was when I put a card exceeding 32Gb. When turning on the camera, the LED is blue for 1-2 seconds, then flashes 8 times blue-red, then turns off.
@@Blueyzachary 16:9 is the correct aspect ratio for HD or Full HD recordings, only the photos have an aspect ratio of 4:3. Depending on how long the camera is stored after production, the battery capacity may be reduced. It may also be possible that the problem comes from a low quality battery.
Thank you so much for your explanation. I couldn't make any sense of the Chinese/English manual. The only thing I can't get to work is turning off the date stamp.
Thanks so much for this video, and especially, your operator manual on your web site! The camera may be a fine product, I just got it today, but the writer of the pamphlet simply cannot communicate in English. Your sites are a tremendous help! Thanks!

For a non-native speaker, the manual is a lot more understandable (if not all that natural) than the Chinglish original. Cheers!
Thanks a lot., you manual is great., helped me a lot¡¡¡
LITTERALLY the best video for the sq11
Thank you for your comment.
Thank you very much for your video.
The manual is very helpful
I was very disappointed with the camera when it arrived but with your help, it's working to my delight.
Thank you again.

You're welcome
I actual bought this camera for a drone and passed my expectations! Would recommend buying!!!!
I suppose you only use it for recordings or did you find a solution to connect the camera to an FPV system ?
na i just use it for one of my drones. if you check out other peoples vids, they show how to fix the FPV.
Nice, I will have a look.
So glad people like you are making thorough reviews like this. This is very helpful for consumers trying to make the right choice for them! Thank you
I'm glad I could help
Thanks for the video and the instructions. Very helpful. Though I must point out the night vision on the camera I got was way better than yours. It picked up a good 10ft away or so. Maybe an improved version of it.
Thanks, beautiful demonstration video.

thank you, this is very helpful, especially for the new manual you've created.. for reading chinesse english is really frustrating.. LOL
Yes, I know, sometimes it's a real torture. If you do not understand what they talking about, you'll be forced to test all the functions yourself.
Thank you!
The distance for motion detection is quite short. Try first if it works before using it for deer detection.
@@Meisech Thank you, I thought it was based on change of pixels, not an actual motion detection. I will be sure to test it
Thank you for a well crafted clear and informative video. Michael farrell Kilmore armagh
Thank you too for your comment
Just received two yesterday. This UA-cam video and good instruction manual are a God send. Thank you very much. I purchased them as a potential security cameras. Appears to be money well spent.
So, you are a lucky man. Many SQ11 cameras have flaws. Enjoy your cameras and good surveillance.
Why? Oh Why?
I had a mini web cam that had that connector. You might find the cables on ebay if you look.
How do I pair it to my phone. Have an android
.
Philip Wolf the camera is small so they used the smaller USB. You can get those at the computer store.
HOW do you format the SD card into FAT 32. I am like geekless here. Thanks.
Thanks also for your comment. I'm glad I could help.
Thank you so much Meisech for your superb work! You even went in your car to test the camera on these conditions - WUAOOO!
From all reviews I've seen about this little camera, your's is the best (IMHO) !
You're welcome. Thank you too for your comment.
Thank you for your comment. Indeed the price of SQ11 is very attractive.
Thanks so much, great video! You have saved me hours trying to work it out from the manual they provide !!! Awesome 👍😊
You're welcome
You saved my day trying to figure out how to get the thing working from it's original operation manual
You're welcome
How wonderful.
I'd set this device aside for several months because of the indecipherable (to me) instructions.
Before this video was half way through, I'd made a movie !!
Thank you... and those instructions... WOW!
I'm glad I could help
Many many thanks for explaining the SQ11. What a public service! The enclosed Chinese-Englsh manual is incomprehensible.
You're welcome. Indeed, most of these manuals are incomprehensible. Only large chinese firms provide you with a correct and well-translated manual.
Thank you so much! The Chinese English manual was so minute in font size and so uncomprehendable to understand after using a magnifying glass- so thanks for that as well! Really appreciate
Yes indeed, this chin-english manual is terrible. Something had to be done.
@@Meisech Thanks for the reply. I have a spare card I can swap it with so I will try that.
Normally the camera should not go into sleep, except the motion detection is active. But normally this occurs within 1 minute and not after 5 minutes.
With your self-made Instruction, I was able to play it continuously at 5-minute intervals (finally!) thank you very much.
THANK YOU!!!! for the clear instructions. I got my camera and had a hell of a time understanding the english instructions they sent with the camera. Their english instructions was poorly written. Thank you again! I was so frustrated , I almost threw the camera away!
You're welcome
thanks for taking the time to make instruction a us person can read and understand, this made everything make sense to operate. Again thank you for taking the time to learn in a language i understand. thanks Eddie
You're welcome
Well done in producing such a concise instruction video and the manual is brilliant being well written and easily understandable!
Thanks a lot for your comment
Just want to reiterate what everyone else is saying, thank you SO much for doing this video AND writing up a new manual. Saved me a TON of time. You're awesome!
Thank you too for your positive comment
Meisech, thanks for an excellent and thorough review of the SQ11 mini camera, and the translated manual.
Thank you too for your comment
thank you brother for this video its very helpful, especially for your manual . MAY GOD BLESS YOU
You're welcome
Meisech, Thanks for the in-depth review and manual provided
Btw.... regarding the Charging instructions, The last sentence that explains "You can also connect the camera to an external power source...." Would we be able to charge and record at the same time with this setup??
Thanks in advance
Yes. The camera is specially designed to act as a dashcam. This means that as soon as the camera is connected to an external power supply (for example a USB car charger), the battery is charging and recording starts automatically. When the external power is turned off (car engine is turned off), recording stops and the last video clip is saved on the card.
@@Meisech really appreciate your prompt reply
Thanks🙏

Thank you for the the view, it was quite useful. I am planing to use this ca,are to record some animals at night, do you think if I add an external IR light source it would work better? Regards
If you really want to observe animals in the night, I suggest to buy a more professional camera, especially designed for those purposes. I don't think that the SQ11 will correctly work even with an external IR source.
I just got mine and was impressed by the quality, especially considering the tiny size and low price. I intend to try mine with an external Ir source for night vision
Sure, you can try with an external IR source, but I am a little sceptical if the result will fulfil your needs.Let me know please if it works.
Thanks for this. I bought a couple of these cameras but I’m still not convinced they work properly, your instructions will be much easier to follow so I can test this.
You're welcome. Thank you too for your comment
Thank you for a nice readable manual ….first recording did not work after... 2 hours of trying...now i know that the Blue led is standby...and NO light it is recording ! wow !..what a fine original manual..! :)
You're welcome
Wth? So whats "play and stop?"
I just got mine in the mail today and so glad I came across this video, very informative. Thanks
Hope, everything is working as you like
Thank you so much for the manual. I was starting to hate the camera trying to get it to work.
You're welcome
Thank you, I had this boxed up and ready to go back, but will give it another try
Hope you enjoy it
You have very well introduced this camera. bought it myself, but I have not tried it yet
Thanks. Hope it will work
had no idea it had audio. got 2 for $12 each.
I can't get mine to turn on
Thanks for the review...thanks for the manual. Very thoughtful of you!!! Thanks!!!!
You're welcome and thank you too for your comment.
Grazie mille. It seems easier to learn the Cinese Laguage than to read their English. But luckily you did our HomeWork, thanks again from Tuscany (Dutch).
Prego !
Thank you very much sir! This is a great help. Stay safe and pray for our world.
You're welcome
But as I always say if you want to use a camera for security, nothing can replace a real WiFi surveillance camera.
thank you so much for this video, i had a lot of questions before watching this video
but i still have one question left
in motion detector mode, if the battery is fully charged, how longer it will take the battery to drain out?
i mean if i used it as a security camera when i'm away for a week or so, can i set it on motion detector mode to stay long time and record only when something moving ?
please reply ASAP because i want to order it
I have never tested how long the battery lasts if it is only in motion detection, but I think the consumption is similar to normal use.
@@Meisech thank you
Good video detailing this cameras shortcomings. I'm planning to use it as a rear facing car cam alongside a good quality dashcam.
Its small enough to miss and wont obscure your view, my only problem is mounting it without a suction cup.
Simply use a double-sided tape
@@Meisech So theres no viable mounts available for it?
Looks like i'll try tape or sticky pads.
@@EliteFireSaint To my knowledge, there exists no other camera mount for the SQ11 than the provided camera mount.
Hope everything is ok with the camera and have fun
Very, very helpful video. Thanks for taking the time. It cost me $12US so I didn't expect Leica quality...Lol. Definitely a fun toy, though!

Thank you for rewriting the manual for this camera.
You're welcome
Plugged in the camera to the computer to charge and I can't get it to blink red to show it is charging. Directions are very clear and informative. Wish I could print them
In most cases the battery is defective
Thank you a well considered video ... and thanks too for sharing your revamped Manual !!

Thank You very much for this video and mainly for 'translated' manual! This is a BIG help for us. Thanks again!

hello from uk,,,,,brilliant youre version of manual.BUT. can night vision and motion detect be used together?i cant seem to get it to function,,thanking you jimmy
I am not sure. I will check it. I let you know.
It is working, but only in 720p. First turn on the camera, activate the night shot mode and then the motion detection mode.
Hey! great effort on the manual, thanks.
Hi, Apologies I think I was not clear.
Composite out to my TV... Can I playback my files on the tv or only see live view?
Cheers
Only live view, there exists no button or button combination, thus no file menu to chose and playback recorded files on TV.
Ok,Thank you very much :)
Maybe there exists a method to start the camera directly in 1080p mode, but I think you have to change the settings in the firmware, which is not possible in my opinion as you don't have the source code.
too bad, but thanks for the quick reply!
You're welcome
@@Meisech That seems to have solved my problem! All cards i tried were NTFS. Formatting as FAT32 solved the recording issues! Thanks so much
@@TmRNL You're welcome
@@Meisech Thank you for your fast and complete reply!
Thank you very much for good work and testing, it's still not clear how to use it with analog video out but not so important for me now.
Thank's Meisech, that nice photo in the end right in the same day of my 72nd birthday :-)
So what can I say, enjoy your life
A quick question if I wish to use it as a Car DV, and I set it up with my car power source which is there when I turn on my car.

@@Meisech Thank you so much!!! I'll give it a try and test it. Again thanks. Keep up the good work.

Which model did you buy, the one from Banggood or from Gearbest and how's about the night vision ?
Meisech SQ12 Waterproof but not from the 2 mentionned. Ordered by Ali and received from Singapore. But, it's the same packaging and it's not a Quelima !!!Did not tried yet the nocturn vision. Come back later.
Thanks for a well crafted video and a much appreciated readable manual
You're welcome
Yes, all these devices are mass production and I wonder if there exists a final control when produced.
I think final control is probably putting contents into retail box!
P.S. in britain we have poundshops, they sell battery packs, with usb lead for £1,,plugs directly into sq11.to greatly increse battery life/power
Great to know, thanks for the info
Very Nice !! Thank You for all the info and work you did.

Hello, I'm from Peru, I'm waiting to purchase a SQ11 camera. As for recording in night vision, which camera is better?, An QQ5 angular, QQ6, SQ8, SQ9 or SQ11 ?.
Sorry, I do not own any of all these cameras, except the SQ11, so I can not tell you which one is better.
Thank you very much for the video and also for the manual. Great work!
Thank you too for your comment
Excellent review sir. It was very thorough. I was actually amazed by the "black dot sun" you pointed out. Just a few questions though:
I usually have found that "black dot" sun from cams that are only 720p max in rez. Ex. 808 Mate has the "dot" but Mobius doesn't.
Well, I'm enjoying with some help of people like you that share things :-). Meisech, did you tried to record in "movement detection" with the camera connected to the wall charger? Or it only works with the internal battery? I tried to record with the charger connected with no succes.
Yes of course it is working. Setup your camera for motion detection as usual, after that connect the wall charger.
Thank's Meisech, once again
You're welcome
Got one on the way, less than $12. Thanks for a good instructional review.
You're welcome
Can you connect it to your mobile phone
That reworked manual gets an A+ thanks!
Thanks also for your appreciation
A very thorough and informative video. Thanks!
Thank you too for your comment
That's what I said in my video. You can not expect too much from such a cheap camera.
Thanks--- are the trousers your test of color rendition ? :-)
No, only for shades of gray
Thanks for the vid and especially the manual!!!!
You're welcome
Thanks a lot. Very good effort to decode the Chinese English. But in your reworked manual i didn't find Video out mode. Pl tell how to use the yellow cable given with mini usb cable. I couldn't play the video in TV. Thank you.
Please have a look at my Quelima A3s review : ua-cam.com/video/vq3vZJbxvQk/v-deo.html @17:00 . The principle is the same
Incredible explanation👍.
@@Meisech thank you very much 🙏
Is it possible to record in all modes (720p/1080p and in the night vision) when the camera is connected to an external power source?
I should be possible. First set the desired mode, than connect the external power source.
That operator manual...Thank you man. Hard work noted and appreciated

Meisech, Mine is exactly the same, but the buttons work a little differently, also, it seems to record in 16:9 instead of 4:3.
It also says 60 mins instead of 100
@@Blueyzachary 16:9 is the correct aspect ratio for HD or Full HD recordings, only the photos have an aspect ratio of 4:3. Depending on how long the camera is stored after production, the battery capacity may be reduced. It may also be possible that the problem comes from a low quality battery.
grazie per il tuo manuale . many thanks for your traduction
You're welcome
Thanks for the easily understandable instructions!
You're welcome
Thank you so much for your explanation. I couldn't make any sense of the Chinese/English manual. The only thing I can't get to work is turning off the date stamp.
