I appreciate your take on designers and I will def check out some of the ones you've mentioned! I'm also on the fence about petiteknit because while she has really lovely wardrobe classics, there are so many other top-down raglan patterns?!? On the otherhand, I've made her Maude tee and her patterns are a good jumping off point to adding your own modifications. I also think that for beginners, it's nice to work on garments that don't have 'complicated' shaping... almost an step up from doing a boxy flat seamed sweater (which was my first intro to knitting). Love these vids, following!!❤

Being able to add modifications is definitely a plus to having some of her designs on hand. Fun! I was loving your review of Tanis Lavalee and was thinking I would really love knitting one of her patterns... then I went to her ravelry portfolio and realized I've already knit a Reverb cardigan for my mom! It was indeed a great experience. I've knit a lot of PetiteKnit (Mette's) patterns from way before she became a knitty-super-star, but I've mostly knit children patterns. They fit gorgeously. My nieces got TONS of wear out of the Selma suit, the Willum's overalls, the Dagmar dress (this one took me a while), etc. I agree with your rant on the multiplication of similar patterns for various age groups, but (and I probably won't get much love for saying this) I like that she writes in Danish, speaks in Danish in her videos, targets the styles and sizes that fit her (numerous) family members first, before expanding to larger sizes (I don't speak any Danish). Edit: Obviously, the mistakes are problematic as well! The needle size you mention can really throw knitters off. In terms of children patterns, I also love knitting Along Avec Anna's patterns.

I thought this was a great topic! I’ve knit dozens of sweaters from numerous designers and I did my first Ozetta pattern this winter (Port) and it was so excellently written and designed it really stood out! I am actually knitting my first Petiteknit pattern right now (Poppy Tee) because she uses my favorite top down construction and I do agree the translation could be better but I do like that she clarifies her instructions with little explanations. I would encourage you to try Joji Locatelli patterns- very clear and so professional- and I like that she has various techniques and styles and not recycling the same construction every time.

This was a great episode. most of the designers I've heard of and bought patterns from all the designers you vouched for except for Hannah G knit. I love knitting for kiddos, so I'm excited to check her designs out. :)

Oh thank you for sharing being a visual learner since I’m the same learner. Patterns need to get to the point without to much not needed info. Tin can knits has several children’s patterns.

Thank you. It is always interesting to see which designers a person gravitates towards. There are usually valid reasons, but not everyone can determine what it is they appreciate. It is lovely to hear about designers I haven't explored because that opens me up to new ideas. Thank you again!

Yesss! This was awesome to watch. It is also great to learn about other designers that have been doing excellent work. I just queued several Ozetta and Tanis patterns.
I am surprised Sari Nordlund isn't on this list. I adore her patterns, they have great shaping and sizing and are so clear that i always feel comfortable trying new techniques with them just because her patterns are so well written.
I have only done 1 pattern by Sari Nordlund, and I 100% agree with you that her patterns are phenomenal! If I get the chance to work more of her garments in the future, she will probably show up in another list maybe at another time. :)

Hello there! That's a great suggestion. I have had a couple of people ask about where they should go if they're making their very first garment.. so maybe that's something I should look into compiling for folks. Thanks so much for the comment! (If you were hoping to get a suggestion for a pattern now, I'd recommend checking out allaboutami and knitatude. Both have wonderful beginner friendly patterns!)
Was watching your video with great interest when I realised I have patterns by Tanis Fiber Arts and Tori Yu in my library that I haven’t got round to knitting yet 😂. I must do something about that!

💯 agree with the anker sweater. So annoyed about it. My linen version is okay bc that yarn is super drapey but the Sunday version ..awful! I actually started buying Sandnes Garn pattern books bc I was annoyed about buying multiple patterns from PK to get the different sizes or yarn weight. Sandnes garn has similar patterns and include all sizes on some of the patterns. Haven’t tried any of the other designers but will check them out. Great video and I loved the topic! I for one am no longer buying a pattern without shaping until I know how to add it myself.

This is such a great overview for some really great designers! It does frustrate me when you praise Aimee for her attention to accessibility for all makers, then excuse petiteknits her lack of size inclusivity. As a plus sized maker, I cannot make the majority of the petiteknits catalog, and that’s a huge issue to me and many many others in the making community. 30”-60” is standard (and many designers even go beyond that now!) and has been for years.
Thank you for taking the time to write, Tessa. Absolutely - I was trying to convey that a part of my complaint for Petiteknit's patterns is that her earlier designs are NOT size inclusive. Since her more recent designs seem to include more sizes, I opted to add her to this list. However, I apologize if it came across as excusing her! It must be frustrating to not be able to make much of her catalog - I'll definitely keep that in mind as I promote designs/patterns in the future.
I like petite knit too, but her tutorials aren't user friendly , and thanks for pointing out that the links aren't working either as I have been very frustrated by it
