Love the motto ‘keep sowing, keep growing’ such a good mindset! Those tools are so sweet as well! Can’t wait to see the difference with the chillis! Take care Gemma!
Hi Gem, Don't blame you tucked up in the dinning room, what at turbulent weather week. I follow Jessie at plot 37 and 8 days ago put sweet peas, podding peas and lettuce in now, they are coming up.🌱 It is a lovely sight. Thanks for sharing, bfn.🐞🌻🌱
I agree about the logs next to the fire, last Christmas our caught light whilst we were out walking! Terrifying when we returned home and the lounge was full of smoke! Just managed to throw all the smoldering logs out in time! Never again! Keep safe and warm, I spent the day going through all my seeds, looking forward to some warmer weather!
That fire looks lush! My Dad had one of those and it is just so nice and cosy just to stick a log in and sit by it with his then dogs. If it weren't for Potty Mouth i wouldn't be sowing until Feb but JB talking about sowing peppers early makes sense. I don't usually grow them and have been overwintering the peppers in our bathroom but i want to get backup replacement now. This time of year i tend to have an under bed storage box of sieved homemade seed mix in the kitchen/ dining room area. I normally sterilise it by either baking or using boiling water to get rid of pests in the house. I have a bad habit of sowing too much. I am growing California wonders, Red hot chilli peppers and some Thai Dragon peppers. I have sown a bunch of leeks and onions and not sure if i have the space for them all. Also some Sugar snap peas. I have been mainly ordering seeds and adding the details to a spreadsheet as i have a bad memory of what is what, etc and i can keep track of what i did when to refer back on. I bought some early nantes carrot seeds from grown local and i was watching @theflyinggardener and he was sowing some Amsterdam Forcing 3 so i got some without the 3 from premier seeds direct. I have a mini B&Q portable plastic cold frame that i want to use and mix sieved compost and sand so i can sow some seeds come Feb. I am constantly shuffling plants about and what takes priority on our two main windows in the dining area. There are 2 led grow lights in each bay, tacked up with cable pins and string so i can adjust the height of the lights. I can usually fit 2x 40 cell trays on each there, with ally year round basil plant i have. The old outside workshop and loo is now connected to the house with a flat roof and conservatory windows as a utility area, which i usually have my cool overwintering herbs, etc. I wouldn't say our garden is pretty but more functional, so it is something i want to work on more this year. We don't have a greenhouse but we have an iron bench with wooden slats that i want to restore.
Oooo what a lovely spot for seed sowing. Those propagators are perfect windowsill size. It feels so good to get something going doesn’t it? Good luck little seeds… grow well ❤❤❤❤
I love buying really old tools from boot sales. When using them, I love wondering about who used them, where they used them and what was going on in the world at that time. I always buy bare wooden handle tools, with really good quality heads. I love the thrill, of a bargain and the search 😊
I LOVE old tools, like you say its how they are made and the history of them. My aunt gave me a lot of really old tools when she moved and I love using them. Of course if they are a bargain then all the better 😊 have a fabulous weekend 😀
I us these same trays- so useful. I grow flowersas well as veg so it is double the work, but i love every minute of it. What makes gardening special to me is using ny late mum's tools. It makes me feel she is with me and guiding me. Happy gardening 😃
I'm super happy with the trays so far, they are really sturdy too. That is so lovely and special to use your mums tools ❤️ Thank You for sharing that with me 🥰
I have those little propagators too. I have some of the black version but I love that the clear one shows the roots. I’ve held off doing anything except onions due to absolutely freezing 🥶 and like you I don’t use a lighting system. Have an awesome weekend Gem, Ali ☔️☔️☔️🇨🇦
Really enjoyed this Gemma.. thank you. Interesting little experiment to see the difference between the over wintered chilli and new seeds… look forward to seeing the outcome. I adore your cosy log fire… you can’t beat watching real flickering flames and the glow of the wood especially when it’s so cold. Take care 🤗❤️
Hi Katie 👋 Thank You for the compliments 😊 yes im definitely interested in seeing the difference between the overwinter and new plants 🌶 have a fabulous weekend 😀
Hi Gemma, loving the cosy fire 🔥 I like sowing in my house, as long as I tidy up after myself I don’t get in trouble. Some great chilli peppers, your polytunnel will be full of colourful peppers in no time 😊🌱👍
Hiya Gemma, Thankyou for a wee visit with you by the cozy fireplace I’m jealous as only the fake kind for us lol. Enjoy your weekend. Blessings luv Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
great video Gemma we love that you can see the roots .and your excitement at seed sowing is infectious, can't wait to see how they grow, also the overwintered chilli how are they doing? big licks from Colin the dog
The overwintered ones are looking really good. I cut them back but keeping them watered and away from draughts is all I'm doing so they aren't being too much hard work to overwinter. Big hugs to Colin and have a fab weekend 😀
Hi. I'm new to your channel (and gardening). I was delighted to see your seed trays. 👌Thank you. Can I ask the reason for you putting perlite on top of the seeds please?
Hey Jen 👋 Welcome to my channel and Thank You for watching ☺️ I put vermiculite on top of the trays to hold moisture in while they are germinating 🌱 the seed trays are really good, I'm really pleased with them 😊 have a fab week 😀
@@GemInTheGarden Hi Gem. Thank you for replying. I will try your tip with the vermiculite.👍🌱Yes the seed trays look excellent; 👌I was dithering about what to buy, then stumbled across your channel and though 'Yesssss!' I like the idea of the transparent cells, and as you said, they will be neat (I had same experience as you being overwhelmed by seedlings).
It's good to hear you found my video useful ☺️ Oh yes sowing too many seeds and having trays and trays of seedlings can just be too much 😅 I'm sticking with what I've done for at least a few weeks before I even think of sowing anything else 😀 let me know how you get on when you sow yours 🥰
What great varieties you’ve got there 👏🏻 It’s going to look so colourful when they start producing. I agree using something you love to do a task makes it more enjoyable 🌟
I just love to get the very first seeds sown of the year and I'm always excited to see them grow and the anticipation for what's coming for the following weeks and months getting prepped for spring.... Good luck
I have those tray also Gem. Seems like everyone I know has them :) I know what you mean about seeds everywhere-I think I’m gonna use your example and just do a few here and there on a couple of window sills :)
@@GemInTheGarden I'm in southeast Texas, so my tomatoes and peppers are sown and about 5 inches tall, Im about to start my flowers, cucumbers and more peas. Our last frost date is the end of February, so Im scrambling. Once the heat sets in (100F) in June, everything will die. Fall, winter and spring are our only times of productive growth unless you like okra (I don't) 😄
Oh wow such a different season you have in Texas 😀 I won't be ramping up sowing for a good few weeks at least as pur last frost date is end of April begining of May. I have never tried Okra but was thinking of it this year!
Hiya, can I give you a bit of friendly advise; don't stack wood directly onto the side of the burner. Two reasons: the wood can catch fire (ask me how I know), and also it restricts airflow to the side. The burner warms the room by radiating heat from its hot metal case and if it's blocked it won't be efficient, and burn more wood.
Oh wow I had no idea!! Thank You so much for taking the time to let me know 👍 They were sort of put there without thinking as Vince made a new log store and we didn't have room in it for all of the logs so I just put all the spare ones around the fire 😅🔥 Thank ls again for the info and have a great weekend!
Great to see you sowing those saved seeds I’ve sent you Gemma! I think you’ll really like them! 💚 I’m doing mine in February, so not far off! 😁💪🏼🌱
Thank You for the seeds Will! 🙏 what a great selection you sent me 🌶
