Indeed it was a HUGE hit! How good it is to hear it again…going on my car playlist right now. So many of those old songs to be appreciated again. Thank you so much🇨🇦❣️
Deep Purple was written in 1933. As a young piano student I had the sheet music and learned to play this in the 50's. I came from a musical family, my grandparents had a band that played all over Pasadena and Hollywood and I developed a deep appreciation for the music of this era at a young age. When Nino Tempo and April Stevens recorded it with this tempo it was like a new song and I loved it as well. I'm always happy to see these old gems being discovered.....so they can still be enjoyed today. ua-cam.com/video/JhcBMcOl1Hg/v-deo.html That is a link to how it was originally played. Beautiful song.........
Nice classic pick from 1963, Cynthia. Nino and April were brother and sister. Nino was a trumpet player, April sang mostly pop/jazz. She had a solo hit "Teach Me Tiger" in 1959 that "scandalized" some of the radio executives for it's sultry suggestiveness. She should have had a much longer-lasting career with that voice and her looks but she was already in her mid-30s when this was a hit and "teenybopper" culture had just started to take off, making her type of singer out of fashion. Thanks Cynthia and Harri.
Harri, another brother and sister duo, did a cover of this song,Donny and Marie Osmond. Written by Peter DeRose (1933) originally sung by Mary Singhi. Also by Harry James,Earl Bostic, the Diminoes, Ray Stevens.
From what i heared the band Deep Purple got their name from this song (probably not this version) it would be great if you reacted to an earlier version as well
Great pick Cyn like always. I remember listening to this when my brothers and I would go to the laundromat and spend some of our dryer money on the jukebox. Mom wondered why the clothes was a bit damp. 🤪😊
This was indeed a big hit in 1963 around the time of JFK’s assassination…and a Grammy Winner for “Best Rock and Roll Recording” of the year. Unfortunately, this is a re-recorded version…not the hit record. It was far superior.. April passed away in April of 2023, but Nino is still alive at 89 years old.
Thank you, Harri. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you, Cynthia. This is a favorite since back in the day.
@@jobill8487 you’re welcome, I’m glad that you enjoyed it
Nino Temple and April Stevens were a brother and sister duo. The song is a standard from the 1930s, recorded by many artists.
Ahem.....Antonino "Nino" Lo Tempio.

The pop sound of America, shortly before the Beatles landed and changed everything.
Love this song

That decade is when I too was learning to play Deep Purple on the ivories.

I did the same, but I spent my money on chips from the fish and chips store.
Great pick, Cynthia! I've always adored the harmonies of this tune, yet haven't heard it in ages ... 💯🎶
Thank you JK. I have had it on my list for ages.
I remember hearing this song as a kid. This is a great brother & sister duo from the 60's. They did a lot of song covers.
Great old song..luv it ❤
Thanks for the great requests and reaction. For some reason your Louis Prima reaction made me think of this song and have not heard it in decades.
This was the #1 song on the day of the JFK assassination.
Thank you Cynthia ❤ What a catchy song, have a feeling that I know the song, just did not remember who by 😊🤔
And Thank you Harri
Thank you Agnete. 💜
The boy singer ain’t chopped liver, Harri. Yes, she’s pretty too.
I remember hearing this song but I think it was by someone else 🤔. Anyway, it sounds great. Thanks Harri and Cynthia 🌺✌️
Thank you Debbie.
She was whispering the lyrics. He did not know them. They kept the whispering in…
I've heard this song many times but never really 'digested' it. This version gives me a different feeling about it. I'm still a little meh about it.
