I've been pondering this question for several months since I am about to remove, paint and rehang doors throughout my house. My thought is that the stopper should be attached to the door. My logic is that the door can change positions open or closed, and in areas with carpet or other flooring that has to be cleaned, the stopper on the wall is an unnecessary challenge. One of those historic question of which direction the toilet paper roll should go - we all know it's over and down the front - LOL.

Agreed. I think it’s best to choose based on your home buts it’s a tough call in some spots.

Would it be a bad idea to put the door stopper at the top of the door? I’ve never seen it done and I’m wondering why not. Maybe because you risk punching through the wall if the stopper or plate is not attached to a stud?

Yea so you will be missing the structural support at the top to stop it, plus that chance of catching sow thing on it when you are carrying a mirror etc into the room will be greatly increased.

You can drill through tile just like this, but you need to carefully create a pilot hole using something like the Milwaukee Diamond Drill bit, while cooling the bit water every few seconds.
