Excellent interview, as usual, Peter. Research and preparation of the customary high standards and your questions were spot on - incisive but not inappropriately intrusive. Cobus was a great guest - articulate and refreshingly insightful. This channel deserves FAR more eyeballs.
Thank you so much Jan. That's a beautiful comment and compliment. I really appreciate it. It's very rewarding to know that my style is enjoyed. I very much enjoyed having Cobus on the show and appreciated his honesty and insight. I'll keep putting the videos out and hopefully it will get many more eyeballs in the weeks and months (and years hopefully!) to come.
I like how honestly Cobus gives his opinions. Far too often in autobiographies and interviews guys dance around facts we all know to be facts, and don't give us the important details which may explain the history to us. Great interview again!
Thank you for the kind words Douger. Yes, Cobus was a great guest indeed and as you say, far too often in autobiographies and interviews they just tell us the stuff that we already knew. This was very, very good stuff from the great man.
Thank you so much. I agree. An outstanding guest with great stories and excellent honesty. What more can you ask for? Oh and of course he wasn't a bad rugby player at all!
thanks Peter, awesome interview with another world class player and tighthead who would have easily made it to the 2007 rwc cup squad had he not left SA, luckily BJ, CJ and Jannie held up the bok scrum just fine.
Glad you enjoyed it Andre! Always lekker seeing you in the comments. Yes, we've been blessed with so many wonderful players over the years. Just look at the incredible depth at tighthead in that era alone.
Absolutely! Have you watched my interview with Ollie Le Roux? Ollie also had some negative things to say about Straeuli. It's great when the guys come on the show and can be so honest.
Some good insight here. Amazing how a chap like Straeuli can still hold a job in rugby. And to still read the stuff happening at the Lions while under his watch, what a waste man. He wanted players to play at risk to save money somehow, but he took SARU for millions of rands when he was fired for incompetence. What a piece of work.
@@TK_Originals Incredible stuff hey? Some of the stuff you hear about that we didn't know in those days just boggles the mind. You know the old story about there being three sides to every story - my side, your side and the truth: Well on that note I must try to get Straeuli on here. It'll be interesting to see if he justifies those decisions or if he regrets it. Thanks again for the comment! Always great seeing you in the comments, TK!
@Front Row Rugby yes, he was. Rate Willie Meyer just behind those 3 in my top 5. He was also fantastic with ball in hand. Very mobile for a big and heavy man.
@@af9165 Just talking about these guys has me thinking about what a conveyor belt of talent South Africa is when it comes to rugby! What magnificent players!
@Front Row Rugby hope you have interviews with Willie Meyer and Balie Swart. They make up my top 5 tightheads since 1992 with those mentioned above. Dougie Heymans, of course never played for the Boks, so Frans Malherbe rounds off my list of top 5 Bok no 3s since 92.
@@af9165 My ultimate goal is to interview every Springbok since readmission on this channel. So Willie and Balie can most certainly expect a phone call from me at some stage! And once Frans has retired he will be invited to be a guest here too.

What are you smoking?Gary was one of the best captains and players ever...and a very decent oke off the field as well...We won 18 games in a row with Gary as captain and I think the reason we didn't win the WC was a direct result of Mallet dropping him...And as for comparing that Bok team with the current one...of course there is no comparison...you can hardly compare the way rugby is played nowadays to those times...
Thanks Peter another great interview. I can tell that this not only your career but your passion as well. Cobus pulled no punches, a man of ethics.
Thanks Rif! Thank you as always for the comment and the kind words. Cobus was a great guest and what a player he was back in the day!

Thanks Wazza. Really glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the comment and all the best!
Best tighthead post 92 we had, in my opinion. Only players near his scrummaging ability were the late Dougie Heymans and Tommie Laubscher.
Yes, he was magnificent! I also always thought Willie Meyer was a very strong scrummager.

These former Bok blokes seem so much chilled in retirement , as much as they benefited from Rugby, the game benefited from their skill as well

That is correct! Well done, Sean.
Uruguay.. Tonderai Chavhanga holds the record for most tries scored in a Bok test match from that game.... unless it's been broken??
