    I like your voice over style as opposed to "real time" audio. This makes your videos easy to watch, as well as making the material covered easier to absorb. You got a real gift for working on cars. I hope you're making a ton of money as a mechanic.

      I liked the story of this one, since it narrowly avoided a demo derby death and it has certainly been an adventure and learning experience. It's fun to look at cheap Craigslist cars but don't fool yourself into thinking it'll be an easily fixed impulse buy, haha! Between this, my Firebird, and a friend's Datsun 280 (in my other video series) cheap, ratty cars are great if you can put in the time and parts.

      james quimby, my thoughts exactly brother. Even worse some of them go to the scrap yard. I sold my 87 4yrs ago for 500 bucks, the guy told me he really needed something to get to work in, said he was going through rough times. I was conned!! he cleans it up, makes some minor repairs & turns around & sells it for $2500 makes 2000 bucks at my expense. I regret it every single day.😣

    I figured out the engine stumble, I'll show it in the next video, but it was the floats. I had installed the "offroad" needles as the rebuild kit I had used came with both types, and set the floats as outlined in the instruction PDF for the Edelbrock offroad needles on their website (7/16" and 15/16" drop). I read a few forum posts on those and saw at least two posts quoting older versions of that manual with different specs (3/8" and 1 1/4" drop), it seems that the older carbs like the one I used for this truck have a slightly different bowl design. So I pulled those needles, put in stock-type ones and set the floats again.
    Done. Fixed. Despite the "correct" float settings, it was not getting enough gas into the bowls. That is all. Both frustrating and relieving to have that figured out. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions! (And correct me if I got any details wrong!)

    Stuffed a v8 into an Astro Van, moved the radiator in front where the AC condenser was, chucked the clutch fan, and used a short Ford fan extension. literally about a half inch clearance,, put Micky Thompson N-50's with Anson's on the back, chopped the steering wheel into a butterfly, ran perfect. for the exhaust just used the stock 350 cross over..
    But I've been wondering about an s10, and here it is. Great video & project!

    Pretty soon I'll be gifted a '98 Blazer 2wd with a 4.3L with 280K. I'm a little older than you but it gives me a vote of confidence to tackle problems that I might encounter in the future with it. Fortunately mostly everything works, except the a/c but I think I'll be able to figure that out. Keep up the great work! I'm sure you inspire so many (Including myself!) to hang on to their vehicles and make them last, amidst this horrendous throwaway culture that is so prevalent these days. Great, great content!!!

    I just stumbled across your videos about your blazer. I am currently working on a 91 s10 king cab. It has the LU2 4.3 liter in it.. I ordered it from jasper racing. Stock it makes 170hp/260torque. I have put an edlebrock intake, headers, jacobs ignition, bigger injectors. I would like to think its making around 200hp now, maybe more. Also had the 700r4 rebuilt, it will grab 2nd gear and get sideways pretty easy.. Also put in a 4:11 rear end from a 4cyl s10. I did all this about 10 years ago.. and let it sit for far too long. Now I am in the process of getting it back on the road once more. Keep up the good work!

    This brings back memories from when I was trying to track down a stalling on my 93 mustang. Could not figure out what was causing it to stall after running for it minutes. Drove me nuts and after not having time to work on it I sold the car to a friend. Come to find out the computer was bad. Weird considering I was able to get reading from my tester. I loved my car and working on it but I don’t miss the stress it caused when it broke.

    I did a trick on my old Blazer back in the day oh, that has the same 4 wheel drive hub lock-in issue, but I came up with my own game plan. Since it's was vacuum operated, "can't remember exactly" but I ran some rubber hose and a 90-degree ball valve to a vacuum source on the intake or something, then when I wanted to lock in the front hubs all I would do is flip the 90-degree valve. I stuck valve inside under my Dash by the transfer case shifter, work pretty good.

    I bought a harbor freight 220 volt MIG welder like you did.
    You will not believe the difference by using 75/25 gas and a longer whip.
    I absolutely love it now.
    I can weld anything steel.
    Any thickness and even rusty.
    They are good welders.
    I would never consider using flux core at all.
    Try it it's well worth it. Trust me.
    Love the swap.
    I have an a 2001 S10 Blazer and have been wanting to do the swap.
    Like yourself, I don't want a big bill.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  7 років тому +2

      Most of it is out there on the internet, you just have to search and sometimes get lucky. I found out about that angle difference between cylinder head types, and learned there was a company that makes that specific sort of angled washer (and of course they are very expensive), and figured "I can make that". That is how a lot of things go working on projects like this, it is all about getting a base of knowledge, anticipating problems, coming up with solutions, and getting creative when you have to.
      Carburetors (especially Edelbrock) are pretty simple, I enjoy working on and with them. In the next episode, rebuilding the transmission, that was intimidating. But in the end, it's just another machine made of simple parts. Many, many, simple parts.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  7 років тому

      I did consider that, but since it would do it at any engine temperature, and with the setup of the fuel system it was very unlikely. I did take steps to prevent it, I had previously dealt with the heat soak under the hood of my Firebird being pretty intense.

  • @dragasoni
    @dragasoni 7 років тому +1

    Love this project, awesome job!! I know it's been VERY difficult, but don't give up!
    Just a few notes from one car guy to another. About 20 years ago, my buddy swapped out a blown 305ci with a 350ci in his Firebird and that destroyed the transmission in just a few days. I'm pretty sure the original tranny can't handle the torque from that 350ci when it was designed for a 4.3L or 2.8L V6 (whichever the Blazer came with). Second, my guess is that you have an issue with fuel pressure with the higher RPM hesitation. Check the fuel filter if you haven't already, and check the fuel pressure. Consider a new fuel pump as well.
    Good luck!!!

      Yep, and maybe in the future, but I'm cheap and I don't like the idea of shoving even more things into that corner. I do actually change the oil filter in the next video, and it is not as bad as I had feared. It's a very tight fit and requires the inspection cover to be taken off, but it seems doable.

    Future reference. To set a pair of floats on just about any carb remember fuel level in bowl should never be above the gasket line. If you set it and run the truck and it stumbles around a corner floats are most likely set too high. But checking color of plugs and tailpipe helps fine tune it. And doing the air fuel screws right.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  7 років тому

      Right on! These floats just threw me for a loop because of the springs in the needles. I think I needed to set them higher than spec to compensate for the spring tension. I set them gently holding down on the float and I believe that is what messed me up.

  • @twatdidusay304

    Hi, most of your problem is that your intake carb flange is a for spreadbore Q-jet style carb while your edelbrock carb is a square bore style like a holley carb, which in turn means the secondaries aren't opening cause they're hitting the back edge of the intake, and it'll have a vacuum leak. Get a squarebore to spreadbore carburetor adapter plate from your local parts store, the Mr gasket brand is the one I've had best luck with, and cost around $20.00 to $25.00. That should fix most if all of your probs. Hope this helps.

    your high rpm miss is likely valve float. try backing some preload off the lifters

    I’m in the process of swapping a fresh v6 into my Sonoma and really want to ditch the old vacuum stuff for the 4x4. Do you remember where you found the bracket that you have holding the cable at the dash end? I’ve been looking for a similar one and I’d rather not try and make one. Not that I couldn’t I’m just starting to feel the “why won’t you let me love you” with my truck.

      I just made that bracket from some steel strap, I don't know that anything like that exists as an aftermarket product unfortunately. The dash creaks a bit when you are locking the cable but it feels solid. The other people I have seen do the cable mod usually mount it lower down, to the actual dash/steering column supports. I have seen a picture where somebody just used a piece of steel with a single 90 degree bend and a hole in it for the cable, so it doesn't have to be as complicated as the bracket I made.

      I think it's more stubbornness. I made the mistake of buying a crappy beater and then kind of falling in love with the character and idea of it (and spending more money than I should have) and I can't help but keep fixing it now. It's a problem.

    I just picked up a 92 S10 Blazer 2 door 4.3 5-speed four-wheel drive that I'm going to put either at 350 or 383 but I won't have the same issues that you had with your transmission cannot be a manual
