I’ve always loved the Renault 16 looks, as well as the Peugeot 404 and 504.
    Sorry about your 4-CV.
    Great video.

Anything French is always a pleasure, and I still bitterly regret backing out of buying a new 2CV back in the 80s in favour of the ghastly Austin Metro. What a shame your 4CV was unable to fill the apparent absence of 4CVs at the meet. Nonetheless, as always it looked so bonny on the run with your old man's lovely MG BGT. What a super colour the BGT is and the minilites(?) match it so well. My favourites at the meet were the stately Bentley, the yellow GT6, the DS Citroens and the super SM Citroen. Thank you for yet another enjoyable video!

A taxi cab company in Salisbury , Rhodesia, used the Renault 4CV, as i now remembered, in their fleet. Remember catching one in the early sixties! It drove very well. They were lined up in Cecil Square, opposite the Anglican Cathedral, in Baker Avenue. Painted black, with white roofs! They were replaced by the Renault Dauphine, in time, also rode in one, lovely ride, then Ford got a look in, with the Cortina, and then viva le France, the Renault 4 invaded the fleet!

Your Renault 4CV is fantastic. I liked that you showed more of it. The red interior is so nice. Lovely little French car.

Thanks Rick, I love the 70's French cars reminds me of my British vs French Car Top Trumps...remember them!!
At an impressionable age my dad had a Citroen GS 1200 Club Convertisseur estate, (that's the semi-auto box one),... which to date of all the cars i've travelled in, had the most comfortable seats and the most magic carpet ride!! Sadly NFN555M is longer with us, but i remember my father had a wonderful love hate relationship with it, especially with winter starting!! Great event Rick thanks for bringing it to us

Great video again and I do love the 4CV, it is so cute and quirky. I have been looking at them for sale online and may consider getting one next year. I guess your Youthful Assistant did a lot of running around in the making of this video.

Very good, we owned a yellow V reg 2CV many years ago, took it to a meeting with a sign on it which said 'This is the actual car that was'nt in the James Bond film 'For Your Eyes Only' it was amazing how many people took photos of the car! 😂 it was a great car!

    • @oldclassiccarUK

Just shows how much (or little) people actually read on signs, notices etc ...

I love that 4CV, it's a great looking little thing. Over the years I think France has possibly made some of the most 'quirky' looking cars ever built but there aren't actually many that I don't like. They're just very different.

Hi 👋 here in New Zealand French cars were few. We didn't trade with France as we did with the UK. We sent our wool and meat overseas to you there in Britain. Also we are a Commonwealth country. I like the Renault 16 , and the Citroen GS. But my favorite French car is the Citroen ID / DS models. The blue Peugeot 504 Estate looks great. I prefer the estate to the saloon. Thanks for your video. From Carl.

The only French car I've owned was a Renault 19 1.4 Reg H385OHJ, I bought it new. Compared to other cars in its class it had a huge boot. I needed the boot space as I had three children at the time. Had it for nine years except for an annual service and two new sets of tyres, no other expense. Traded it in to buy a Ford Puma.

Your little Renault launched a host of small French Sports car companies. Bonnet, DB and even Alpine all started producing cars based on its engine, running gear and chassis. But on the subject of 2CVs - I remember seeing one equipped with beautifully hand made aluminium front and rear spoilers and wide aluminium wheels parked in a street near my home in the West End of Newcastle. I eventually met the owner who was an engineering student at our university. I asked him why it had those and he lifted the bonnet to reveal a supercharged Ciroen GS flat four enegine, He'd su bstantially uprated the brakes, suspension and gearbox to cope with all that power. He reckoned that it was the fastest 2CV in the country and took great delight overtaking cars such as BMWs and laughing at the shocked expressions of drivers when they saw that they were burnt off by a "Tin Snail"!

My first car was an early Renault 5 with the dashboard gear change. I have also owned a Renault 14 GTL and my current car is a 2029 Citroen C1 VT. The C1 wasn't built in France but in the Czech Republic.

We were inspecting the Toyota equivalent of the Citroen C1 yesterday as it happens, dispiritedly noting the creeping corrosion on this particular examples' lower regions!

Morning Richard. Pity about the Renault . Obviously the thought of being surrounded by Citroen's was more than it could bear ! Has to be one of the cheapest forms of racing . I remember as a 17 year old delivering a Bentley lll to a customer . It was hilarious to see so many cars pulling over to let me pass ! You jogged my memory too ! I've had a DS 21 Super 5 , what a car , a 1.6 Saxo, and presently a Berlingo .....less said about that the better ! However, they do say never look a gift horse in the mouth ......not so sure about that 😂 Thanks Richard

Craziest French car I've ever owned (and the only kit car I've ever owned) was a 1972 Lomax 224, based on a 72 2cv which I rebuilt in the 90's. Proud to say it's currently still MOT'd (SRB327K) so I didn't do that bad a job 🤣

Such a shame your Renault didn't make it. I've attended both years of this fantastic event (that was my yellow MK1 Mégane Coupe and me in the light coloured jacket stood behind the R5 Gordini).
Now I'm more knowledgeable about 80's and 90's Renault's than early post war models but would I be correct in thinking that the RHD versions of the 4CV were actually marketed as the 750?
I.only.ask because I was pulled up on it a few years ago.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  Місяць тому +1

Good evening, yes the UK built RHD cars were indeed sold here as the 750, I just refer to them as 4CV as that's what most people remember. I have been told off for this by someone on Facebook :-) Thanks for checking out the video!

Ooh, right up mon boulevard! My only criticism is the admittance of non-French cars. I mean, why would anyone bring a British car to a French car day and expect to show it? Put rhem in another field “over there”.
Otherwise it was un jour formidable.
