need to go into the BIOS and disable optimus, that puts all the power to the NVidia gpu. then you can go into the video settings in the software and can set onboard gpu or the nvidia gpu
i love that it’s flashy, it’s a representation of the laptop itself. imo this is the best gaming laptop that isn’t a duo. i think 2nd would be the Legion 7i, but the price is the dealbreaker
so right now I actually have two of these machines and for some reason I get screen flickering but only while in chrome. This alienware x17 truly is an amazing machine but its true it really is kinda expensive. I wish it cost 25% less... however that would probably eat into there margins. How much do you have to spend right now because a used area 51m for about 2000 is gonna run better then the x17 speced to cost 4000....
Oh cool ok I’ll give it a shot and let you know. So did the video answer all your questions or do you wish this video included another kind of section?
@@SERGE_Tech well theres only one display option that even offers advanced optimus and g sinc so if u got any of the other 2 i believe ir out of luck but from what i see u have to change it in bios mode ill put link in another comment to show
I have the x17, 11th gen i9, rtx 3080, with 64gbmemory, but they only let you put uhd 4k with 120mz an no gsync... its so weird so I'm glad you made this vid In my cart I mean on the website, i didnt but yet after watching this
Oh nice they haven't had the 3080 version available for a while, since its released I been checking it keeps selling out instantly. Finally they are getting more in. Yeah 4k with gsync would of been nice, I guess they made that panel for creatives and business people not so much gamers, since most gamers stick to 1080p.
just ordered this laptop, it was 650$ off for cyber monday specs are 11980hk 8 core rtx 3080 16gb 3840 x 2160, 17.3 inches 512 m.2 pcle nvme solid state drive 32 gb ddr4 3200mhz for $2999
@@SERGE_Tech so just an update I had a lot of problems with this laptop haha Mainly the heat sink or the fan Dell fixed it from warranty so it's running like new again
you know its quite confusing because my monitoring programs told me it jumped up to 148 watt then I herd some websites say it has 150 watts, its quite confusing honestly wondering if the software im using is messed up or if theres some kind of dynamic boost to the watts so if its 140 watt then maybe it can boost to 148 idk man is crazy how secretive alienware and dell are...
@@SERGE_TechSo the graphics card TDP varies according to the manufacturer, that applies to Nvidia's mobile GPU found on laptops as well (i.e. Dell, HP, Lenovo) and so on. I visited Nvidia's website and found this statement at the bottom of their web page "Clock specifications apply while gaming with medium to full GPU utilization. Graphics card specifications may vary by add-in-card manufacturer. Please refer to the add-in-card manufacturers' website for actual shipping specifications".
Another helpful video Serge, thanks for making it. Dells x17 does appear as if they've done well with the cooling design and ability, and so I'd buy this because of that. But i need a number pad, so I'm hoping and waiting for their next model, or it's possibly going to be an area51m r2... or maybe a workstation.
Hi Serge. does the heat at the vents just below the screen and the right side get really hot to the touch when gaming?. such is my experience with the 3070 version.
yeah its pretty normal sorry about that experience of yours it must be alarming to see such heat but basically the machine needs to breath and it breath out hot air and usually the thinner the machine the hotter the spots on the machine are, some machines get so hot that they will burn you to the touch so what you had happen is pretty normal.
hey! Really cool , after a long time I'm here :D, also i wanted to know what specifications do we have to check to buy a new compatible cpu cooler according to it, could you please tell me? Thanks
Wait are you saying you might want a new cpu cooler for a laptop? thats pretty much unherd of you cant really upgrade that vary easily, although they do exist I have seen a few but there probably isnt any for this specific machine. The cooler would just have to perform better in the RPM ranges then the previous machine, you can also check how loud it gets via DB reader/analysis.
@@SERGE_Tech No actually I'm talking about a pc cpu cooler, my stock cooler has been acting soooo weird lately like when i turn on my pc sometimes it doesn't start and sometimes it does but the speed is embarrassing for a gaming pc, it speeds up after like 40-50 minutes but still isn't enough for gta v and minecraft( heavy cpu load) my processor is Intel core I5 2400 and the fan which I've been thinking to buy is Coolermaster i70 (not i70c) on amazon, can you tell me if it's compatible with my processor? Also my motherboard is zeb b75 , you know much more about tech stuff than me so i thought to ask you because you reply to every comment, thanks
So normally its around $2550 USD however I got it open box at bestbuy for around $2150 got super lucky!!! I always check used and open box markets to see if you can find a deal, you can find machines for 20-30 percent off thats quite good. Have you already purchased a machine?
@@SERGE_Tech I see, I think it depends on games that we play. I am not a competitive gamer, mainly play casual game and browsing so the 360hz panel kinda useless for me. 4k screen oh boy everything is so crisp.

Yup the thermal profiles are probably set below the operating systems controls although there may be a way to modify the firmware or use advance software to force it but really just get an Alienware area 51m with 10900k and 2080 super and you won’t have that problem Alienware for a while was the only one who could pull of true performance the rest have to throttle to protect the the hardware.

Hey, just wanted to say that the temperature of 75°C is nowhere near exceptional. For example even my old notebook msi 75 ge raider with a gtx 1070 is constantly at its max watt of 115 while maintaining 75°C easily
Well it happens that you got a decently cooled machine, but that machines also thicker, Normally machines run hotter. Can you provide an example of an exceptionally cooled machine? Maybe I should of just said it cooled decently would that have been more accurate?
@@SERGE_Tech im not sure if the temperature should be any lower than 75°C since its a good working temperature without damaging the GPU long term. All the MSI have the same Bauplan with 2 fans, like 5 heatpipes across CPU and GPU in the middle. Alienware's Bauplan is definitely exceptional with the 4 fans though i agree. Im not sure why your GPU was not working at its full watt. that may be related to your software (settings, drivers etc.)

Remember when Alienware looked cool? They used to be super unique and colorful. Dell turned this brand into something you can take to a board meeting.
Yup dell changed the brand so much, it used to be the best possible machine…. Actually thinking about making a video about this…
i kinda like the business' look
You will get another 40 to 50 fps if you turn off Optimus and turn on the mux switch in bios.
nice vid dude, thanks i learned a lot about my new rig
